I love to see people researching their roots, I must get around to it someday myself.
I am doing some research which someone may be able to help me with. In the 1800's, Thomas A. Bellew of Co.Galway, Ireland, married Phillipa Grattan, Granddaughter of the well known Sir Henry Grattan. As she was the heir to her families wealth, they used the married name 'Grattan Bellew'. After Thomas A. Grattan Bellew's death in the mid-late 1800's, Lady Phillipa Grattan Bellew, his wife, returned to her home county of Laois, also known as 'kings county'. In 1882, Lady Grattan Bellew commissioned a house to be built for herself close to the family estate in Vicarstown, Co.Laois. Grattan Lodge still stands today. In a sorry state of repair, it has been proposed to restore this Irish National Heritage to its former glory. Apart from the building itself, there is very little information available in connection to the history of the house, and in particular, architectural drawings, etc. Perhaps there may be descendants of Thomas A. and Phillipa Grattan Bellew who may be able to aid me in this project. I would appreciate very much any material, information or whatever anyone may be able to offer in connection with Grattan Lodge. Many thanks...
