I would love to trace my father's family, GEORGE WATTSON CUSTER, from Botetourt County, VA. His mother's name was Jessie Joplin and his father's name was George Wattson Custer (Sr.). My father was born 11/18/13 and died in Staunton, Va., on January 19, 1975. He was the youngest of 9 children, none of whom survive.

First attempt at researching my family name (Custer), & I am being led in many directions, all of them unfamiliar to me. I know that I am Pennsylvania born, that my great grandfather's name was Irvin Custer. But how do I proceed from here ? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated I was born in 1931, Irvin was born in 1849.
