I'm gathering information about my great grandparents and related families. James Elizar Carpenter, b. Jan. 14th, 1830 in Herkimer County, NY married Rebecca Vanmeter in Jersey County, Illinois on Jan. 18th 1853. Together they homesteaded 160 acres 1 mile south of Baldwin (Douglas Cty) Kansas in the summer of 1854. (one of the first in the area) I like Rootsweb a lot!

I'm looking for census, marriages, or military records
on James Alexander Peery, who lived in Douglas county in
the 1860's. I believe he served the Union Army in 1864
and 1865. We believe he was married to Mary Ann Tomberlin.
