I am reasearching my Northeastern Kentucky paternal roots. The surnames are YOUNG, GASKINS, SMITH, SAUNDERS, McBEE, POTTS, McKNIGHT, and STOREY. The counties include Bath, Nicholas, and Fleming in Kentucky.
The Niholas County connection is through my maternal great-grandfather, ANDREW JACKSON SMITH (b. 10/25/1860; d. 8/5/1946). Although he died and is likely buried in Sherburne, he was born in Nicholas County. There is no further information on his parents.
ANDREW was of, at least bi-, and possibly tri-racial heritage. I will have one photograph posted at my webpage shortly: http://geocities.com/shediva1958/index.html
We do know that he was born into slavery, but was freed as a small boy. We do not know the name of the family to which he "belonged." He married ANNA BELL SAUNDERS, of Sherburne; and, between them, had 10 children.
In addition to wanting to determine the names of his parents, I am trying to determine if he had any siblings or was an only child. The family would definitely like to connect with any living descendants of his siblings, if there are any.
