I am looking for information on my great grandfather James J. Wilson born as far as I know, October 9, 1815 in or around Salem Mass. I have not been able to find any information aabout him unless I join Ancesters and I just can't afford this as I am on fixed income. I am sure there is some free information out there someplace, at least I sure hope so.

You're my favorite site - keep up the good work. I really appreciate all the work your volunteers do. Several branches of my family emigrated from England to New England in the mid-1600's; the information you provide has helped tremendously in tracing them.

Note: When I click on Newbury, MA USGenweb or Newburyport, MA USGenweb I get "hijacked" to some unrecognizable commercial site. Thought you should know.

My mother was Bertha Pellitier, her mom Alice LeBlanc, her father Thomas Pellitier. It might be one l, I am not sure. She grew up in Salem Ma during 1940. I believe she had a child out of wedlock at Salem Hospital and a family in Marblehead might have adopted him. I heard a story it was a boy. She then was wed to a Russell Veno and proceeded to have four children. I just would like to know if I have another brother out there, he would be around 55 or there abouts, I am 53. If anyone knows anything concerning this please e-mail me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I disagree. I get the Essex mailing list and delete most of it as it takes too long to read unless the subject is of interest. Would rather have items posted and I can run through them at any time. The more sources the better. Also I am interested in several New England Counties. Would not want to have to subscribe to so many mailing lists.

We already have a listfor Essex Co, MA, which you host!, thank you. PLEASE do not make me suscibe to another list. Way too confusing.
There is also an Essex Co. site under USGenWeb. Duplication just confuses people and makes it harder.

It would seem to me both wise and cooperative, in developing an
Essex County page, to include in your links the substantial amount
of information currently available on Essex County
and its towns as part of the USGenWeb Project. You cite
USGenWeb liberally, but don't link to the very information
that people interested in Essex County would want.

which covers Essex ???

Although I applaud Rootsweb goals, it does seem to me to be
counter-productive to duplicate the following, very active
and successful sites and mail list.

http://www.rootsquest.com/~essexma/
http://www.HERTGE.COM/wills/
ESSEX-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com

Perhaps there is a way to incorporate rather than duplicate.

Hello,

I have noted the formation of a new unnecessary list:
<<Mailing lists at RootsWeb
Subscribe to the MAESSEX-L mailing list>>

I wish to register a formal protest to the the creation of
this MAESSEX-L mailing list.

I can understand the need to have an Essex, MA, 'list name'
that is in the usual format. But, if that is what is
needed, there is no reason why ESSEX-ROOTS-L cannot be
renamed MAESSEX-L.

But, forming a completely different mailing list for
Essex County is counterproductive, when we already have
one. Any new cousins that would join that list, would
benefit from the topics for discussion on ESSEX-ROOTS-L
and their input would be valuable for us. But, under these
circumstances, they may not even be aware of us initially,
and join the new one. Or, we may miss their contributions.

We have list members on ESSEX-ROOTS with years of
experience working on Essex-County genealogy, and it's
the best list I've ever been subscribed to. We have a
super 'list mom'. Also, there are many of us there that
have the experience and resources available to refute
genealogy errors of the past, that need to be correctly
answered and about every six to twelve months. Much of
that information is in the archives, now. But, if they
don't have us to direct them there, or repost the files
that we have created to answer such queries previously,
they will still be in the dark.

Please stop the creation of this new competing list, and
if you wish to rename ESSEX-ROOTS-L to MAESSEX-L, I don't
believe that would be a problem.

Kind Regards,

No more than one name for any one place on rootsweb at any time...for example: Essex County should have only ONE list ( we dont need MAESSEX along with Essex-L as there is only one Essex County in Mass. !! that would apply to all counties regardless of which state it's in.

Same goes for the Ct-River-Valley list...there is only ONE Connecticut River Valley in the whole United States...it needs only ONE list.

What needs to be done is to have the SURNAME lists broken up....I subscribe to the Wheeler/Jones/Frazier among others...and find that many are in the southern states and does me no good since my surnames are in New England. Perhaps having surname list broken up as follows:

Wheeler-Northeastern states
Wheeler-southern states
Wheeler-southwestern and western states

Cynthia Abbott
Listowner: Ct-River-Valley-L@rootsweb.com

I couldn't find the description for the list named MAESSEX-L. If this is for Essex County, MA, you already have a list for them called Essex-Roots-L. And it's a darned good list. Also, could you link the Essex County MA Genweb site here instead of creating a new one? Sure cuts down on a lot of duplication. thanks.

I too consider it duplication and fragmentation of effort
to maintain two mailing lists for Essex County. The existing
list is by far the most informative list I subscribe to.
Please do not muddy the waters by creating a second list.
Also you have made a major oversight in not noting the
USGenWeb pages for Essex.

Please-lets not duplicate what is on the USGENWEB site for ESSEX county, MA. Everything we need is on this site and if we have two, we will be spending too much time deleting duplicating messages.

There is a great Essex Co. page in the Gen Web project. And an excellent Essex Co. mailing list.Is this an attempt at duplication? It will take years to do so.

There is a VERY good web site at
http://www.rootsquest.com/~essexma/
that already seems to cover this subject quite well.
Since this is a USGenweb site, you may wish to acknowledge their existance with a link from this site.

I PROTEST RootsWeb creating a list competing with
ESSEX-ROOTS-L.

Rootsweb has also has ignored the Essex County USGenWeb
page and all the towns connected to it.

Rootsweb's policy seems to be "divide and conquer". It is
far better to have a single list for one geographical
area so all may read it and miss nothing.

I must say that, I think, you have done our listowner (for Essex-Roots-L) wrong. We have a wonderful list with people who are kind and helpful. why have another place to have us running back and forth so we don't miss anything. I am just not sure how to take this and just have to wonder why.
