It seems that there is now a default mailing list for each county,
I am not so sure this is a good approach. I am the listowner of
BALTGEN-L and I advertise it for BAltimore, Anne Arundel and Howard Counties
in MAryland. Why. Well Howard Co was until 1853 part of Anne Arundel Co.
Hence all records for Howard Co are in AA Co before 1853, (including the
1850 census). The same families seem to be found in all three counties,
given the migration patterns..Most early BAltimore Co families are found
in Anne Arundel Co. So I think it helps to in some cases have broader mailing lists
than todays county boundaries, as there seem to be some natural divisions.
I also helps keep down people posting the same thing to many different lists
and the amount of E-mail one receives if they need to sub to multiple lists,
rather than one with a unique genealogical division covering multiple counties.
