I think I have information regarding Lewis Bennett's parents and grandparents. His father was Howard Bennett and his mother Lucy Jones. They are from Campbell Co., VA. Lucy Jones' father was Thomas Jones and the mother Patty Douglas. Thomas Jones left a will in Amherst Co. which lists his children, grandchildren and any spouses. Several of the children married Clarksons, and several of the Clarksons moved to Chariton County as well as other counties in Missouri.

"La Charrette: Village Gateway to the American West" is the only history-genealogy book on the westernmost village of the Louisiana Purchase where Lewis & Clark departed civilization. Multiethnic French x Native American families predominated. The seven families had nine orphans among them. See what Daniel Boone family member Margy Miles says about "La Charrette" at http://www.pastseeker.com/boone/lacharette/schake.shtml

I've been trying to find a way to give you some names of ancestors buried in Chariton Co, cemeteries. Your site asks for such input, but there's no instruction or link that I can find to permit anyone to respond. I also have questions about other Chariton cemetery sites not listed which I would like to know more about.

Can you tell me if there are any hisotric mills accessible to the general public (if on private property, even by appointment) in your county? If so, please send me the name, phone number, e-mail address (if there is one) of a contact for the mill(s).

Sincerely,

Chris- i'm still trying to find you! Robie Joe Elliott is my uncle. My dad was Russell Elliott, and I grew up in Wapato, Wa. I met your cousin once. She took me to the pool, shopping, and to Greg's little league games. Said she enjoyed having a girl around for once! Tell me, was her possum loaf for real?
