I am highly pleased with your webpage. Having been a minister at the church of Christ, 629 N. Springfield, Bolivar for 26 years, I naturally have a love for Polk Co. and the citizens who live there. You have a nice count. You have a nice County Seat. Thank you for the information which I have received over the innernet.

Can you tell me if there are any hisotric mills accessible to the general public (if on private property, even by appointment) in your county? If so, please send me the name, phone number, e-mail address (if there is one) of a contact for the mill(s).
Sincerely,
Steve Illum, Ph.D.

Although I have not found any information on husbands side, I think this is a wonderful site and I will keep coming back, just incase someone might put in something about the Grable family that lived and died in or near Bolivar, Mo.

Enjoying your web site. My grandparents lived in Polk County.
They were James and Mary Sharp. I don't really know that much
about them and I'm just starting to work on that side of my
family. He came from Ireland when he was 18, I don't know what
year. He and a brother came over at the same time. My grandmother
was a Hahn and she taught school; but, I don't know where. I
know their oldest son, James, was killed during World War I.
My mother, Effie May, married Charles Louie Justis, June 11, 1920,
I believe in Polk County. They lived in Webster County, where
my dad was from. That's were I was borned and raised. If anybody
knows or has heard of this family, I would appreciate the
information. I know grandfather died during the 1930s, 1937 I
think, and grandmother died in 1960 or 1961. They are buried
somewhere in Polk County. I was very young when grandfather
died and I do not remember him. My grandmother had a house in
Humansville, when I was small and I remember spending time in
the summers visiting her. All their children moved out of the
area. They all went to Kansas City. If anybody knows anything
about my grandparents, I would appreciate it.
