I am a camper who has spend many great weeks in Maggie Valley, NC for over 20 years now, at Pride Resort Campground. Recently, we got a letter from the Haywood Co, Tax Assessor, stating that if our camper is in storage at Pride Resort, as of Jan 1, 2002, they will levy NC taxes and tags on us. As we already pay these taxes in SC, we refuse to pay additionally just to camp in Haywood Co. Therefore we are bringing our camper back to SC today and will not return until this taxation is removed from law. WE are NOT happy campers, and will miss spending our time and money in your state, but will NOT return unless this is changed. I just wanted the public to understand what is going to happen to your tourism when all who are guests with campers in your county must pay taxes to vacation there! I don't believe they will remain camping there any more than I will - your county will lose, and another state will enjoy the revenue from our camping trips!
