Rootsweb is wonderful ! Unfortunately I am unable to find out
about my Olsen Olessen ancestors : I have searched in the
0425 Olsen site but I have not been lucky ! Would you please
take note of the following story and try to help me...
My mother was May Olsen, she died in 1992 and was 77 .
( born in 1915 )She married Gérard Hébert in 1946 in
Montréal.
Here is what I know about the Olessen Olsen story...
In the 19 th Century lot of people from Norway got to the
States by ships coming first to Québec city with quarantine
at Grosse Île on the St Lawrence river in the province of
Québec .John William Olessen and his brother Auguste Theodore
were two of them .They came on a ship before 1884 and escaped
from that ship, probably to run away the quarantine.
They were sons of Oleof Frederick Nelson Olessen and Engred
Maria Brune living in Fredericktad Norway .
On June the 24 1884 John William Olessen married in Newport,
coast of Gaspé in Québec, Marguerite Angélard ( Anglehart )
Auguste Théodore has been the whitness for his brother .
I have a 1951 copy of this 1884 union : all the information
above is on the document .
John William established himself in tne Newport area and
Auguste Théodore went to the states. Those two families
are related but unknown one to the other ... John William
had 4 sons : Henri, Arthur, Emile and Francois ( Francois
is the father of my mother )
The following generations left the surname Olessen for
the surname Olsen...
Hello to all the unknown cousins in the States !!!
An e mail would be appreciated if somebody recognize this
story !
Pierre Hébert, son of May Olsen .
