I am interested in the surname RUGG which appears in the records of early Bedford Co, Pa. in a place called Cheneysville. Since RUGG is another spelling for ROCK, I thought it is possible that the two surnames are the same family in the Bedford, Pa. area. In 1728 there was a person by the name of Ignatius ROCK present in the Cheneysville, Pa. area. I can find no reference to ROCK in that area, but there are early records there of the surname RUGG.
