I am hoping to locate my ancestors in Hardeman County, TN. The father of the large family was SAMUEL TAYLOR (WENT BY S.T.) TILLMON/TILLMAN. He married MARTHA PERRY before 1825 sometime in NC (probably Chatham County) and Martha must have died around 1832 or so. Samuel then married Martha's sister, MARY CARTER PERRY. All together, SAMUEL and his two wifes had 14 children.! The names are listed differently on census....so I took a average of what matched:
Robert Wesley Tillman b 1822 * my grandfather *
Gida (Louisa) Tillman b-1825
John Calvin Tillman b-1826
Newton Jasper Tillman b-1832
Margaret Tillman b1834
Oran Mentor Tillman b 1835
Samuel Andrew Jackson Tillman, b 1837
Stanley D. Tillman, b 1839
Martha W. Tillman, b 1841
Caroline Tillman, b 1843
Parlee Tillman, b 1845
Joseph Albert Madison Tillman, b 1848
Lucy Taylor Tillman, b 1850
Louisiana or Missouri Tillman, b 1851
The family history states that children were born in Coffee County, McNairy County, Marshall County, Bedford County, Manchester County...however I haven't located them in one! My latest "tip" was that Caroline Tillman married in 1866 in Hardeman County. Caroline is my grandfather's sister...so I'm hoping the family was residing in Hardeman and I may find them there.
If this sounds familiar to anyone....please let me know. The Family did show up in Greene County, MO in 1850, but it is beleaved that they turned right around and came back to TN for 7 or 8 more years before returning to MO again. My direct line migrated into Arkansas eventually.
