Hi
I married a Walker. Carole Anne Walker. Her Family are from Tideswell in Derbyshire, England. Tideswell Village, market town, about 1500 souls is still dominated by the Walker family and holds the Cathedral of the Peak, a magnificent 13th Century building. The Family were one of the leading Families at the turn of the 19th to 20th century, major landowners living in the main village house Ton du. Carole's Father, the youngest son, left to take up the family's fruiterers business in the local big city Manchester. We, through my wife, are still landowners in the village and the local man who rents our land, 'cos we are townies not country people, is a Richard Walker-Farmer.
The local annual custom at this time of year in these parts is 'well dressing' with a procession, floats and bands and the local villages send their 'Queen's' to 'Tidsa' to take part in the procession. At night there is the torch light procession with the unique morris dancing tune played by the local Mill Band at the head of many hundred revelers waving their handkerchieves in the air dancing and singing to the band's little ditty. Pure, ethnic, English Heritage for any Walker.
I reckon that these must be the southern edge of the Walkers. Derbyshire is regarded as the Peak district and the Midlands not Northern England. By the way, Leeds the apparent heartland of the Walkers is in Northern England nnot North West England. Leeds is east of the Pennines and therefore Yorkshire and never, never North West England or Lancashire!!!! Leeds is the home of the Wool Industry so no surprise with the Walker connection here.
If you discover any connections with the 'Tidsa' Tideswell, Derbyshire Walker's I would be interested to make the connections.

Searching for information on the daughter of Harvey Royce
and Florence Walker. They were married in New Jersey and their daughter Patsy was six months old when Harvey went overseas in WW11.Harvey was then killed off the coast of Japan. Harvey was from Weakley Co. Tenn. after his death his
wife and daughter returned to New Jersey. Florence later re
married. Believe Patsy married a Joe Discher sometime before
June 1960. Have no further info on her. Her Walker family
would very much like to find her.
