Civil war records: the Whitt family was torn by the civil
war with brother fighting brother. The older men fought for
the south while the yoynger men went to Kentucky and
enlisted in the Union army. These men were all descendents
of either Rueben Whitt or his brother Meritt. Both brothers
came from Orange County N.C. Their father was Jesse Whitt.
There is an oral history that has minor difference from the
official record. I'm tring to retify these two accounts of
