This is a wonderful site - I was raised in Ripley and have been here many times visiting 'Uncle Richard' there is one omission my Father's death Reginald Houston Farrar Jr. in 2004 and I believe my Uncle Calvin Theobald just passed in 2008 is not there either - you might want to check the dates and names - will I be planted there? - I don't know but my whole family is there discussing it I'm sure - Thank you for this project - it's funny how comforting death can be - a place where the end is a resting place for those who still run madly into the future.

In a book entitled NEW ENGLAND CEMETERIES, by Andrew Kull, 1975, he made mention of the gravestone in the West Ripley Cemetery of John L. Jones (1811-75), an atheist, whose stone reflects this belief. Mr. Kull cites the first side: "I came without my own consent ... Because of disbelieving."
Do you have handy the epitaph on the other 3 sides?

thank you very much,

I'm searching for information on my ggg grandfather - Barnabas Allen - and his ancestors. He and his two sons, Oliver and John Kent Allen left the Fairfield area sometime after Oliver's birth there on August 9, 1801. Newspaper coverage of a family reunion in Switzerland County, IN in the early 1900s refer to Barney, his two sons and a woman named Hannah (relationship unknown) as former residents of Fairfield. I have been told, but cannot document, that Barnabas was married to Lydia Collins. All information appreciated...

Somerset County Brick Wall George W. Emery
Comments:
Hi, I am looking for information on George W. Emery his family. I post EVERYWHERE! I visit every message board there is, search thru information at Kennebec historical, Maine state archives and Maine Historical Soc. I know my GGrandfather was George Maurice(Morris)Emery born Feb 11, 1881 and most vital info says Augusta or Richmond for his birth. His Father was George W. Emery and all the information says b. North Anson for him. The thing is I finally do find a possible fit but I am not sure. Here is what I have. An 1870 census for Windsor, Maine
Thomas Weeks 71
Hannah Weeks 89
Benjamin Weeks 48
Sophiah Weeks 36 (possibly maiden name Emery)
Melissa Emery 20
Alonzo Emery 18 (although if I am correct listed as Samuel in the 1880 Census of Augusta m. to Matie or Martha)
Almeda 15
Willard A. 12
Nellie P. 11
George W. 9
Adarama 8

This census does not show relationship. Is Sophiah the Mother of all of these Emery Children? Who is the Father? I have found more information on the people in the census but only brings more questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Marci

I am looking for information on the family/descendents of Laroy Judkins b. 2/17/1835 Athens, Maine. Specifically, their race/ethnicity. I believe his daughter, Eva B., may have been my great-grandmother. My only lead is a story from my grandparents and information from my mother. My grandfather took my grandmother to the "reservation" in Maine to visit his family shortly after their marriage. My grandmother insisted on leaving because they were doing something ceremonially/traditonally with snakes. My mother remembers going to visit and seeing the snakes in pens. If anyone can give me information as to what tribe this may have been, or about Eva B. or Laroy Judkins, I would sincerely appreciate. I regret asking questions too late.

Somerset County Brick Wall Death info
Comments:
Philip I. Fisher married Sally (Currier) Howard (2nd marriage for both)- on 1850 Mercer ME census with her daughter Mary Howard.

Isaac Baston (2nd) married Mary Howard June 1864 in Mercer ME and appears with her on the 1870 Mercer ME census. Also in the home is Sarah Fisher, her widowed mother.

I have been unable to locate death records for any of the above. It is possible they are buried at the Little Beech Hill Burying Ground in Mercer ME as Isaac had supported it's formation.

Any information on these individuals would be greatly appreciated.

Comments:
James Hicks King was married at The Forks in Somerset Co. to Lucy P. Williams in 1837. On the 1837 census including The Forks, we found a Daniel Williams whom we think might be the father of Lucy. James was next found at Bloomfield in Somerset Co. where my great grandmother Abbie C.W. King was born in 1838. Lucy P. Williams King died in the Bloomfield/Skowhegan area in 1849. James married his second wife Amelia Gould Smith in 1850 in Skowhegan in the same county. Abbie's first child Mulford Willis Kendrick was born in Bloomfield January 1858. By 1874 thru a letter written by Ida M King, a daughter of James, we find James and family in Welchville/Oxford, Oxford County. Can you guide us as to finding any records of these relatives including places of burial. Thank you for a great website.

Sylvanus Bryant b. 1811 ME
d. Apr 10 1876 65y 2m 5d Story County IA
DAR records for Mrs. Glendora Bryant Wallis born in Cambridge, Iowa and wife of Rolland Schanel Wallis names her as a Descendant of Micah Bryant, as follow: 1. Franklin P Bryant (1853-1903) m. 1879 Mary Janet Green (b. 1859). 2. Sylvanus Bryant (1811-76) m. 1847 Rachel Harriet Fisher (1826-95). 3. Micah Bryant, Jr. (1872-1840), m. 1809 Mary (Polly) Mitchell (Twitchell) (1791-1869)
4. Micah Bryant m. 1770 Margaret Paddock (1741-1814).
Micah Bryant served as private, 1775,Massachusetts Line. He was born, 1744, in Middleboro, Mass., where he died.

Normally only find in tree information listed as children of Micah and Mary (Polly) Sanford, Mary and Joseph and would like some confirmation that Sylvanus really fits into this family?

1840 believe the Anson, Somerset, ME census shows who we believe to be the correct Sylvanus as head of household. That shows Males
1 10 under 15
1 15 under 20
1 20 under 30
Females.
1 5 under 10
1 10 under 15
1 20 under 30
1 40 under 50

What everyone seems to have as Parents for Sanford, Joseph and Mary are buried Talcott Cemetry, New Vineyard FRANKLIN Co., ME

Trying to prove the listed DAR relationship to the Micah Bryants for Sylvanus.
Regards,
Barb Drummer

Somerset County Brick Wall Sylvanus Bryant
Comments:
I am trying to positively connect Sylvanus Bryant to parents Micah and Mary Bryant as their eldest son shown in 1840 census. Databases we find list as children Sanford, Joseph and Mary and we think that's because as the eldest Sylvanus was out of the county early (seems to have married in Michigan and trying to discover WHO he went to Michigan with). Also believe that there were other children, Dorcus and Cordelia found in census. For Sanford some have him as having a son Fred S. Bryant but can't seem to find Fred with Sanford and wife Elizabeth (Sylvester) Bryant anywhere but do find them with Emma. DAR records of a relative list Sylvanus as son of Micah and Mary Bryant but wish to prove the relationship and ALL their children...

Comments:

My ancestors are from Skowhegan, i.e father, grandfather,
and great grandfather (i believe). The Town Clerk of
Skowhegan has been quite helpful to me and i thank her.
According to records my grandfather was born in Canaan.
The town clerk of Canaan has disregarded my correspondence
and provided no assistance to me. I am stuck on my great
grandparents, Louis Clukey (Cloutier) who married
Marguerite Rancourt in the early 1800's (prior to 1853).
My great uncle Charles Cloutier (Clukey) was a Civil
War Vet, married Anna S Newton in Skowhegan on 10-22-1865.
I would appreciate any helpful source you might provide
to help me with Louis and Marguerite (Rancourt) Cloutier
(Clukey). My father Ralph C Clukey served in WW1 from
Skowhegan. I served in WW2 and Korea. My son, David S
Clukey just returned from Bosnia and is a 1st Lt in the
U.S. Army. I'm doing this for him, i'm 73 and he is 25,
came late in life after my 20 plus years in the USAF.

Respectfully

Ralph D Clukey
