Thanks for the hours of work it has and continues to take.

I am a descendant of one Samuel Bishop, b. abt 1784 in CT, my 3G Grandfather. In the late 1790's he came to CC. From the 1800 CC Census records, it appearss there were three Bishop families but, from the way they did the census' in those day, he was probably listed as an unnamed minor male (at that point he may have only been 15-16?) If I knew which of these families he was in, I'd have a better way of tracking him back to CT, which has so far been a very high blank wall, even though I know there are thousand of Samuel Bishops in CT's early history?
Do you know whether any of CC's Bishop families hailed from CT??.
Anyway, in 1803 he married an Esther Bathrick b. abt 1786 in Leverette, MA and eventually also emigrated to CC with her father, Tillabee Bathrick. Samuel and Esther quickly had two sons Samuel and Barnwell in CC before they emmigdrated to Sweden, Monoroe County, NY where they had three more children.
Do you know where I might find the Bishop/Bathrick marriage record or the birth/baptismal records of their two sons? Have you ever came across a Tillabee Bathrick will?
Any information you have will be greatly appreciated and, likewise, I'll be happy to share with you any info that I may have to help you fill in any open spaces.
Best Regards, John W. Palmroth

I am stuck with the Oakley family in Niles Cayuga, Ny. Technically his name is James Henry Oakley but he went by Henry all his life and he have went by something else in the 1840's census. He could have fit in Henry and John Oakley who were 15-20years. I don't know who his parents where or his wife. Who is only told as Sally no maiden name. He did fight in the civil war. I am related to his daughther Josephine Oakley who married to James King in Clymer Pa. Henry? moved to Clymer and left Cayuga by 1870. He is buried in Canisteo, Ny because he need to be near the Bath Veteran's Hospial when he was in his seventies. His real birth was1822 but is wrong on the census. I would love to find his parents and grandparents ect. I also am in search of James King's father Alonzo King's parents. He married simply a Sally. I have no maiden name. He was living in Clymer Pa. I wonder why the Oakley moved here. I also why the King's where raising a infant named Polly Oakley as an infant. I believe she eventually changed her last name to King. It is said Alonzo parent's where born in Ny consistantly in census's. I could use any help you have especially from the Oakley's. Please email me. I know there were 10 Oakleys around 1840's I believe there is only a Henry and a John that are the right age.

I'm descended from the Sabins of Cato (Victory) and the Dusenberrys of Sterling. My grandmother was a Sabin and her grandmother a Dusenberry. She traced her DAR lineage to Military Tract bounty awardee John Dusenberry of Sterling.
Our daughter lives in Fabius. (And a long-deceased uncle was born in Pompey in 1902 when my grandfather was teaching school there.) So one of these days when we visit her, I'll drive north from Fabius and poke around.
Thanks for your site.

Found your website through a search on google for the "Osborne Monthly" dated May 1880, which was found in layers of wall paper in an adobe farmhouse in San Diego County, CA. The house was being restored at the time (2003), and was since burned in the wild fires of 2007. The house was then owned by Zenas and Eliza Sikes, and is currently owned by the San Dieguito River Park JPA. Please forward any info on the "Osborne Monthly." Sincerely, Anne P. I am a 75 year old descendent of Jeremiah (Darby) Murphy of Auburn. Darby owned and lived at 103 Lansing Street (current address ). My daughter Katherine Murphy Morris JUST visited this home for the first time and introduced herself to the current owner Edward Wasilienko. I hope to come to Auburn in the next week or so to visit the home. Also, the home of Darby's son James at what I believe is 132 North Fulton Street. My father was born in 1900 and raised at 136 Fulton Street. I know little about researching in property records etc., but would like to learn more about my ancestors homes and their ownership. How do I do this ? How can I research for any local newspapers. I have been told there were articles about Darby's mother Esther (Etty ) because she claimed to be 100 when near death. We doubt this to be true. More like 92. I have all the Civil War military records for James Murphy who served in the Cayuga County 9th New York Heavy Artillery.
In short ... I would like to link up with someone in Cayuga County as I finish up my family's history. I know the whole Ireland end from County Kildare. Will be sending a very nice headstone for Darby Murphy's grave at St. Joseph's Cemetery in the near future.
Can we communicate ?

Looking for info on 2 separate parts of the family:
#1---My Husband's side of family: Looking for marriage info on Christian Graf (Graff) to Barbara Prinz Smith.... I think between 1863 and 1870. I find Christian Graff contributing to St. Lucas German Protestant Church on Seminary St in 1878---are there any records of this church?
#2---My side of family: My Grandmother's sister Frances Cramer (from Rome, NY) was married to John W. Sherrer (Sheerer)(from Baltimore, MD) and lived on Weedsport-Sennett Road. They had been partners in vaudeville before settling in that home. Where would I find info on their vaudeville career.
Can anyone help? Thanks. mlgraf

I am a direct descendent of Martin Halbritter from Crailsheim Germany 1828-1866. Martin came to the US and settled in Lumberland and Tustin Townships of Sullivan Co. His 5 sons relocated to Auburn, I'm guessing, between 1866-1870. All 5 are enumerated in both the 1870 and 1880 USF Census of Auburn, Cayuga, New York. I am simply a family historian interested in my roots. Anyone else intreested? Thanks - and have a GREAT day.

Hello, I am researching information regarding Mr. Peter Kurtz, a German immigrant who worked in a shoe shop in Auburn, NY around 1880-1910. He was a violinist and met Mr. Thomas Mott Osborne and because Osborne's family handyman. Mr. Osborne introduced him to Mr. David Mannes, Mr. Mannes had recently married Mr. Osborne sister. Peter continued learning under Mr. Mannes. Within (1) year Peter had made such progress that Mannes made him his Asst. Director (possibly Auburn Children's Orchestra). A few years later, shortly after Peter had turned (20 yrs. old) Mr. Mannes recieved a call from a Mr. Richard Mansfield. Mansfield had invested $60,000 in what was perhaps his most ambitious enterprise, the first american production of "Peer Gynt". Looking about him for a conductor who had youth and poetry, he selected Osborne's protege (Peter Kurtz). The Play opened in Chicago.
I am looking for anything other information regarding Peter that I can find and I mean any. Peter was my grandfathers uncle, I am unsure of any other information regarding this. I also am a descendant of the Philip Yawger family of Cayuga, NY.
Anything would help enormously, thank you.

I read the article in the paper about Bernie and I want to thank everyone. In the past, your site has helped locate relatives at St. Joseph's cemetary. My mother had an idea where her great grandfather was buried, but she wasn't sure as there is no gravestone. (I'm bugging people about that now). It also was one over from her grandmother's; the one next to it was a Civil War soldier. <br>I'm also looking for relatives of Theodore Ruggles Timby, who invented a type of turret for Civil War monitors: the inventor of the Monitor had to pay him royalties. His brother Augustus is buried in Cayuga County. I found this out thanks to your site.

I am researching the genealogy of my wife and her family who have a history in Cayuga County extending back to at least the very early 1800's and have been able to uncover many useful leads for additional research as well as valuable documentation for her ancestors. Your site ranks quite high in my estimation compared to many that I have reviewed in my search for information. Well done.

Name: Patty Ashby Reynolds <email@example.com> Date: 2002-11-17 Comments:
Last time I hit this page, it wasn't nearly as well thought out as now.
I have a Query: My great grandfather, JAMES ASHBY married (1858) HARRIET ELIZA STEBBINS (b. Chicopee Falls, Mass. 1838)in Fayetteville, Onondaga Co. but was living 1860 with the Ashby family at the American Hotel in Auburn; BENJAMIN ASHBY, his father was the proprietor.
HARRIET ELIZA ASHBY AND SON BENJAMIN, my grandfather, were baptized in the Auburn Episcopal Church in 1866. I've been unable to find out what happened to her, but I suspect that she and James split up, as James was living in Cortland in 1880 with a new wife and son HENRY ASHBY, age 3. (Henry was grandfather's half brother.)
Since grandfather BENJAMIN STEBBINS ASHBY named his son (my Dad) CORYDON MERRIMAN ASHBY,I suspect that HARRIET ELIZA STEBBINS ASHBY remarried the son of Charles H. Merriman, who was living with his wife and son CORYDON MERRIMAN next door to the American hotel, in 1960.
My Dad never knew why he was named CORYDON MERRIMAN ASHBY, but this seems a likely reason he was given this crazy name.. Does anyone have any information on this ?

Dear Cayuga County Gen Web site Administrator,
Thank you so much for posting the Cayuga Directory of 1867-1868. I found my Great grandfather, Harmon G. Brown in Conquest, NY listed in the Directory. Also, thank you for posting the Census data you have. My Brown's went from Cayuga County, NY to Steuben County, IN & to Calhoun County, MI. MI & NY have done great work with their GenWeb sites. And, the Library of MI, has a wonderful 1870 Census online. Michigan Early Marriages have been posted by the Dibean's & include many NY immigrants to MI~including Harmon G. Brown & Carrie M. Wallin who were from Cayuga County, but married in Calhoun Co., MI in May of 1879.
Thank you for all the great work, especially since I live in CA.

I am not a experienced internetter, 81 years old, born and living in The Netherlands, Europe.
English is not my language of birth so I use a big big dictionary; a letter takes me hours and hours. Some years ago I found the site of Bernie Corcoran of the St. Joseph’s Cemetery. There I found back my in 1854 to Throop emigrated family van der Loo in the USA named: Vanderloo. After a long search I found a part of the descendants of this emigrant., who belongs to the family van de/der Loo/ Loe from the Land of Cleef between Rhine and Meuse (partly noble and partly non-noble), where they were already mentioned in 1359.
Now I have a (from my site hard) but wonderfull e-mail contact with this descendants.
Thank you Bernie and all these other volunteers!

My ancestors John Jacob Randall and Amy Shotwell Randall lived in Mentz prior to 1838.They had a daughter Mary Randall born in 1809,who married Thomas Jefferson, probably in Cayuga County prior to 1830, the date when their first child was born (The Jefferson family is shown in the 1830 census living near the Randalls and Amy Randall's brother, David Shotwell).I am trying to learn more about the Jefferson family link, and I know Mentz was first named Jefferson, before the name was changed. Could there be a connection? I find no other Jeffersons in the Cayuga census and no reason why the name Jefferson was chosen then changed.

Love your site! I am seeking information on my 3rd great grandfather, Joshua LADUE 1794-1865. A bio. states "Joshua La Due was born August 2, 1794, at Auburn, N. Y., where he was married, in 1816, to Julia Ann Cowles of Connecticut. It is believed that Joshua's father was Abraham Ladow b. c. 1774. Joshua Ladue was a veteran of the War of 1812, he entered service at Cayuga Bridge (Cayuga County) about the 25th of March, 1814. He claimed 44 miles from the town of Brutus, at which he was drafted, to Cayuga Bridge where he was mustered into service. Other than these references I have never been able to find any other connection to Cayuga County. I would appreciate any help that may be available.

I'm researching ancestors of my maiden name: EOFF.
This would include marriage record of my gr. gr. grandparents: John Eoff and Hannah Fletcher Eoff. The family left Cayuga Co. in 1832 and settled in Ottawa County Ohio. At the time the family left N.Y. there were 4 children: George b. 1819, Caroline b. 1821, Eli b. 1824, John, Jr. b.1827. Any birth records of these children would be helpful.

Great job on getting info out on the Cayuga County site. Are there plans to add more vital records info online?
The Montezuma, Aurelius and Scipio records online are great!
The mortuary schedules from the 1855,1865,1875,1885 NYS census records by township would be a great aid to supplement available vital records.
Another nice addition might be scanned pages of the Biographical Review of the Leading Citizens of Cayuga County, Biographical sketches from the 1904 Century Atlas ,
or biographical sketches from Harry R. Malone's 1929 Sullivan/Clinton Sesquisentenial volume. There were several Cayuga County families outlined in that CNY volume.
I know all of these take time and effort to setup.
Keep up the great work!

It has been my pleasure to "meet" Susan and Bernie Corcoran! They have been most helpful in the search for my ancestors. Three years ago, I started searching for my g-g-grandparents. I only knew their names and the approximate area they were from. With the help of the Cayuga County Website and assistance from the Corcorans, I was able to reconstruct a large portion of my family. There are still some missing pieces, but I feel confident they will turn up as this wonderful site continues to provide the researchers with the information they seek.
