Love this website, use it a lot.
I do have a question though, an index of Ingersoll Rural through the OCL has headstones located in section M. I have checked both your Ingersoll Rural cemetery map and the map associated with the index and there is no section M. Can you help clear this up?

My grandfather Arthur J.Thorn(e) His sons Clifford and Charles Thorn(e) were buried in Burgessville Baptist cemetery in the 1900s. According to Church, no record of Thorn burials. Hoping that someone might have taken pics in the cemetery before 1967. My grandmother and her second husband name appear on headstone but no mention of Thorn name. Old headstone might have been removed or buried.

Ingersoll Rural cemetery, Section E, "Young"
I think your 2nd photo listed under "Young" is Thomas Ogden Youngs, b. June 15, 1812 d. Oct. 5, 1890 in Toronto. Image is hard to read, but dates look correct. He was married to Elizabeth Kingsbury. His parents John & Elena Youngs are buried in the same cemetery, as are his sisters Mary & Henrietta Youngs (Section C)

Hello, In the North Embro Cemetery, section E, there is a Hugh McDonald, died Nov 1, 1866. I am wondering if his wife is buried in this Cemetery or one of the other Cemeteries in the area. Her name is Catherine McDonald.
She died on Mar. 11 1904. She was born in Scotland and married Hugh McDonald 09 Feb 1842 in Brock, Oxford, Canada West.
I have her in a census living with her son Donald in 1901 in East Nissouri, Oxford, Ontario.
Would appreciate any help locating her final resting place.

I have been resaerching my family for a couple of years but am having difficulty locating the final resting places for three family members. My great-grandmother, Mary Ann Powell (nee Elliott) passed away 6 Feb 1894 in Tillsonburg. Her infant son, William Henry Powell, passed away 9 Feb 1894 in Tillsonburg. My grandfather, Abram Powell, was a farmer and probably did not have a lot of money for burials. He later moved to Dunnville and passed away 4 Oct 1915 in Dunnville, Haldimand County. I have had no luck in locating his final resting place either. Would you have any suggestions on where I could direct my search? Would Dunnville Town Hall or Tillsonburg City Hall have records of low income people buried in town- or city-owned plots? Any assistance would be graciously accepted.

Innerkip Cemetery, East Zorra, Oxford County. Re Robert Parker, died Jan 1, 1874, a native of Cumberland. Note that the year looks like 1871 but the "1" looks quite unlike the other ones. When the stone is wetted down, you can see the faint outlines of the "4". My research of the Parker family confirms that it's 1874.

Hello

I was checking cemetery pictures for Blenheim, Oxford at the Princeton Cemetery but never saw any of the names I'm searching for.

The OCFA indicates that Sarah (Hartley) Aitken 1835 -1874 is buried in Blenheim , Princeton Cemetery (pioneer section), howver I found no Hartley, Aitken names listed or Pioneer Section. Is there another cemetery?

Sarah's husband John aitken is listed on stone but not buried there and her parents James Hartley 1796-1880 and wife Elizabeth Davis 1801 - ??? should be buried there too.

Could you let me know if I'm missing something or should be viewing a different cemetery on your site?

Thank you.

My 2g grandfather, John Sharp, lived in Oxford County. At least 2 of his children were born in Tillsonburg between 1831-1842.
His wife (name unsure;could be the Martha Smith a John Sharp married in Norwich).
She most likely died in childbirth.
The family does not appear in Elgin County in the 1842 census. John and his children are in Bayham in the 1851 census. He is a widower.

Hello:

Your link for the completed cemeteries says Ingersoll Rural was completed in 2010.. but you must have missed some stones there, because a cousin of mine, George Reginald Tribe (d. 2005) and his wife Ann Jean Reith (d 2008) are buried in Section H of that cemetery, not far from his father and mother (George W. Tribe and Gertrude Roper), yet they have no picture of their graves listed here.

Didn't realize that this site also had a very extensive queries page. I was hoping to find the burial sites of my ggrandparents John Christopher Morgan and Margaret Ann Keys(?). Because my mother and her brother were baptized in St. Paul's Anglican Church-I have the monthly magazine of Jan., 1911, with the announcement to that effect, that my ggrandparents would be buried in St. Paul's Cemetery. I've checked most of the cemeteries that you have indexed, found several Morgans but none likely related. They lived at 555 Dundas which supposedly was across the road from the church.
I have a lot more info gathering to do before getting serious about digging up ancestors-pun intended.I will be sure to pass your cite on to those who are searching your area or would like to see a terrific site. Gretchen

Hi,

I would like to ask if someone close to the West Oxford United Church Cemetery could take a picture of a stone there. According to the OCFA JANE and NATHANIEL CLEMENADE are buried there. This is a real mystery to me because there is a Jane Clemonade buried at the House of Refuge Cemetery. Nathaniel is supposed to be buried in Bertie Twp., Welland Co. ON. I'm beginning think there were 2 Nathaniel's.

There is an error under West Oxford. The 'Clemenade' stone is listed under the West Oxford United Church Yard Cemetery but is actually in the Beachville cemetery. A picture of it can be found under 'unknown 1' and is the first stone shown. According to church records the inscription reads "In Memory Of Abraham Son of Nathaniel & Jane Clemenade died Nov 3 1872
Age 11 years 4 months & 27 days." If someone could correct this it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how I missed knowing about this site but it turned up tonight. Was a bit tricky getting to the main page but I searched a surname on the Ontario Cemetery Project site and it returned Springford Community Cemetery as a result. That took me to the index from which I was unable to link to the photo. I went back and chose the Home link which brought me to your site and eventually the photo which turned out to be one of those missing individuals whom you figure must have died young because they just disappear. Luckily the inscription stood the test of time and the light was right when the photo was taken so we now know he did die young.

Your efforts on this site are greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave,

This entry is regarding two monuments at the Burgessville Cemetery.

There is a photo of one side of a Burrill monument which is black. The photo has son, Bruce W Burrill. The transcript for the other side is "BURRILL//IN MEMORY OF//WELDON F BURRILL/1909-2000//EDNA L KELLY/1909-1993//"

There are no photos of a Pearson monument which is larger than the other Pearson monuments shown at this cemetery. One side reads "William G Pearson/1846-1935/his wife/Eliza Jane Cuthbert/1855-1939/Ida M. Pearson/1877-1937/Mary Maude Pearson/1879-1965". The other side reads "Charles C Pearson/1882-1972/Edna Partlo/wife of/Charles C Pearson/1886-1919/also their children/baby 1914-1914/Edna 1919/1919".

Hi Dave,

There are a couple family monuments that only have a picture of one side of the monument on this site. Thought I would let you know in case you have the photos but they have not been entered.

Sweaburg Union Cemetery - MENEER

The transcript for the reverse side of the William Meneer monument in Row I is "Ann Keat Sleeman/ wife of/ William Meneer/ 1854-1940/ Olive Felicia Meneer/ wife of/ Ensley Cuthbert/ 1892-1980"

Hillview Cemetery Woodstock, Section D - CUTHBERT

The transcript for the reverse side of the Victor Charles Cuthbert monument reads "Cuthbert/ Charles E Cuthbert/ 1890-1948/ son John McLay/ 1926-1948/ Edythe May Manzer/ wife of Charles E Cuthbert/ 1890-1958"

If you have photos of these I am certain that distant cousins would appreciate seeing them on this site.

Thank you for all of your wonderful work. I look forward to seeing more ancestors' monuments as you enter the Woodstock Presbyterian Cemetery.

Glenna

I didn't know until recently that our Bryant ancestors are buried in the East Zorra Baptist Cemetery, Oxford County, Zorra East Township Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. I want to thank everyone for their efforts in putting the pictures and web site together. We knew that my great, grandfather Edwin R. Bryant came from Canada but that was about it. Through research I was able to find who his parents were. I was amazed to find pictures of their graves on the Internet from this web site. We don't know why my g,grandfather Edwin R. Bryant left Canada. He is buried in St. Paul, MN USA. I confirmed that these were in fact his parents by getting his death certificate from the Minnesota Historical Society. Thanks Again.

I am planning, as soon as the snow has melted, to be back Woodstock photographing those remaining cemeteries. The Woodstock Anglican cemetery must be first, I receive two or three emails a week for this one.

I have each of the Woodstock cemeteries broken down into smaller sections if anyone wishes to volunteer their time photographing. Each sections would take 2 to 4 hours to complete.

Embro North Cemetery

The following transcription for the above cemetery has an error which you may wish to correct.

David BAILLIE 1848 – 1931 Jane BURGESS wife of David BAILLIE died Aug 16 1923 - aged 76 yrs John BAILLIE born Mar 2 1822 died Feb 2 1918 Native of Banffshire Scotland - BAILLIE

George BAILLIE 1879 – 1936 James BAILLIE 1877 - 1953

The error concerns the birth date of John Baillie who was the son of David Baillie and Jane Burgess. John was born on 2nd March 1882 at Glack, Botriphnie, Banffshire. His father David was born on 24 May 1849 at Mortlach, Banffshire and was my Great Grandmother's brother. He emigrated to Canada via Boston Massachusetts in 1891 with his wife and children who were all born in Scotland. This transcription helps to put in place the final link in a long search to complete the family of his parents George Baillie and Isabella Reid.
Descendants of George and Isabella also settled in Saskatchewan.

I am trying to locate the cemetary in Woodstock and location of the plot for my family "White". Included on the stone would be names Alexander White and his wife, son Melville Peter White and his wife, son Murray Alexander and children. The plot would date to the late 1800s initially and the last internment at the plot, although not on the headstone, would be Murray Richmond White in 1971 and his wife Helen Elizabeth Price in 1974. The latter two were in Cremation plots. The family immigrated from Scotland in 1866 and were likely of Presbyterian denomination.

The "Religious Society of Friends Cemetery" which is also known as the "Friends" or "Old Brick Cemetery" is located in the old township of North Norwich, north-east of the town of Norwich. Ella (Smyth) Stover is buried there but either her headstone is missing or too hard to read. I photograph every stone so if I can not make out the writing, I place them under the link of "UNKNOWN" in the cemetery index. Perhaps you will find it there, if you do find it I can move it to the STOVER link.

On your site there are no Freedy's listed at all. Does this just mean there is no stone available. Victoria died bef 1878 and John aft 1882. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

There is an error on the "East Zorra Municipal Brickyard Cemetery" photo listing. "Margaret Cove" has "the same photo as Mary Lakatos."
Mary Cove should read:

Margaret is my cousin so this is why I checked it.
Could it be changed to the right way please? Thank you-Thelma

Even though I have personally visited the site, it was nice to see in full colour the burial spot of my ancestors, Sara and her daughter Margaret Lee, buried in the New Durham Cemetary. A difficulty I'm having is not being able to find the burial site of their husband/father, Joseph Lee (died sometime between 1861 and 1871).

What would have been my great Aunt Leda Beatrice Mott, daughter of Byron & Beatrice (Beaton) Mott died. I do have her "Obituary Card". Leda was born Sept. 21, 1900 died Dec. 27, 1900 and it says she was buried at the Norwich Gore Cemetery. I do have the Norwich Gore Cemetery book myself and it is not listed in there either. She probably has an unmarked grave then. Hope to see it gets listed too. Thanks Gerry Clements

I am curious as to whether you would know of a resource to locate a property that is in Peebles, South west of Sweaburg, it is lot 8, concession 6, at peebles (bout 4 miles from sweaburg) I am trying to locate the property of the Timothy Topping Murder from 1873, as we have been lead to believe it was a property in Zorra Township on 43rd line, even the Sentinel has it as that house, but the original paper from 1873 says Pine Ridge of West Oxford, 2 and a half miles from Lawsons Cheese Factory, (can't find anything on that either) 4 miles from Sweaburg, and 9 from Woostock. I am unfortunately at a stand still, as resources are limited, and I am unsure of how to research property lots, and to find out the concessions if they have been changed and so on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank-you in advance, and anyone can email me with information on how to go about this!

Wondering if anyone knows where to find burial information for the stones at the Oxford Centre United Church. I visited but couldn't read most of the stones. Looking for Woodrows. Named Amy-d.1851 (nee Crofford/Crawford), James-d.?, Joseph-d.1841, Sarah Jane-d.1852 & Edmund-d.1876. I've found their surname misspelled as Woodroe, Woodron and Woodroen. Ed's daughter Anna(Bertrand) is buried at Christ Church Anglican and he was living with her when he died. I looked there but didn't see anything. They were Quakers and lived in N. Norwich & Burford/E.Oxford. I've looked in the Norwich Cemeteries to no avail.
Does anyone have any suggestions where to look now?

This is wonderful, thank you so much for putting it all on your site for us. By your doing so, I was able to piece together a part of our family that I had known very little of previously. I am working on the Burgar/Burger family, Peter Nelson and Hannah Burgar moved to the Norwich area, and seem to have disappeared into thin air. I was delighted to find some of his family here, however it looks like many of them died within a 2 year period. Does anyone else know if Lucy Burger was Lucy Tidy prior to her marriage?

It is impossible to find the words that will adequately express my appreciation for your efforts in producing this web site. I live in Texas but my family came from Scotland/England to the Oxford/Zorra area. What a surprise to find that you have them listed. Although I have photos of their stones, I've not been able to clearly read the dates - even with a powerful magnifying glass. You have made it possible for me to know the accurate information. In some of the photos, there is very small writing on the stones that I have not been able to read. I thought I would never know what it said. You have included it in your listing. Now I know the poetry from the stones. "Thank You!"
