Also, if anyone can tell me where I could find tax lists for 1800-1820 for the county.

My cousin and I are looking for a Benjamin Johnson b. abt 1800 in Goochland County Virginia. I believe there was a Benjamin Johnson who married Rachel Pace who may be his parents who lived in Clark Co. KY.

He purchased his land in Goochland County from the heirs of Joseph Pace... some of whom lived in Clark Co. KY! (It's a long story, and very mixed up with the Paces.)

My Benjamin Johnson married Frances Terry in Goochland County in 1823. Their children were: Sally A., William J., Benjamin B., Rachel F., and George S. But I can't seem to find out who his parents were.

There is no will in Goochland County leaving him anything (other than his father-in-law).

So where was his father??? if he was the son of the Clark Co. KY Benjamin Johnson and Rachel Pace, that would explain why the heirs of Joseph Pace would have sold him all their land. And also, the names of his children would seem to indicate a relation. But perhaps there is a will in Clark KY from the Benjamin Johnson who is the husband of Rachel mentioning my Benjamin???

PLEASE PLEASE help us! We just aren't sure where else to turn!

Thank you so very much!
Valerie Johnson

Rev James Quisenberry marrried John Cooper and Nancy Purvis 6-24-1803. The listing in the Marriage Register p50, Book 1W-3W is the only record in the courthouse in Winchester. I do not know where John was born or who his parents were or why his marriage is recorded in Clark County. Some of his children's names match names seen in Clark County but not in Fleming--Permelia, Fleetwood, Fielding, Tleming, Kessiah.

He is on Montgomery County tax lists from 1799 to 1804. In 1804 he is also on the Fleming County Tax list. He died in Fleming County in 1839.

Can someone tell me James Quisenberry's church affiliation? Would he have married them at a church, in his home, at the court house? Would he have traveled to their home for the ceremony? Was he a circuit rider?

Wife: Elizabeth Jefferson b. unknown in KY. Age at least 21 in 1808 (wrote her own note stating that she was 21 at marriage)

Issue

1. HYRAM STEPHENSON b. 25 Feb 1806 Clark Co (court record) In August 1818 he was bound out to Solomon Dumford to learn farming with his mother's consent.
He md Zelpha Poer 3 Oct 1828 Clark Co. They lived in Clark, then Estill counties where they appear on the census with their children through 1880. He and she were sent to the Estill Co poorhouse in 1882 and it is assumed they died there.

2. Absolum Stephenson n.f.i. There was an Absolum Stephenson in the 1831 Clark Co tax list on 80 acres on the Red R. land owned by Austin. (Wm Poer is listed on Austin land also).
He could be the man who is listed in the 1850 Clark Co census whose wife's name was Mary. According to that census he was born in 1801. (Yes I know he would have been born before the parent's marriage but Hiram was.)

3. John Stephenson. Bound out by his mother in April 1820.

4. Benjamin Stephenson. Bound out by his mother in April 1820.

5. Charles Stephenson. b. 1 Jan 1809. Bound out by his mother to Jiles Jones in Aug 1818 to learn farming.

6. Jinny Stephenson b. 2 Jan 1811. Bound out by her mother in Aug 1818 to Geoge Watts to learn "Housewifery"

Searching for the parents of Phebe Cotton who married Peter DeWitt, Jr. She was born about 1778 in Kentucky. Just guessing on Clark Co., since there were others of the Cotton family from Clark Co. Phebe Cotton DeWitt died on June 16, 1867 in Shelby Co., Indiana and is buried in a family cemetery on the old Cotton farm. Can anyone help me find Phebe's parents?

Other Cottons who lived in the Shelby Co., Indiana area were William Cotton, and several of his sons. Perhaps Phebe was a sister to William, but I need proof.

Seeking information on any and all BULLOCK, DIDLAKE, and allied families in Clark County, KY. David BULLOCK was, at one time, the Clerk of Court for Clark County, KY. I have 2 names for his parentage - one being John BULLOCK who married Anne RICE, and the other being Patterson BULLOCK who married, believed to be, Mary Anne BINGHAM, although this information is not proven. David BULLOCK married Susannah MOORE in Goochland/Louisa County, VA in 1778. Information would be GREATLY appreciated!

I am searching for the birth records of Samuel Smith, b ca 1856. The only items passed down from our family is that he was from Winchester, Ky, and was an orphan of the Civil War. A relative took him to Pittsburgh, Pa where he was listed in the 1930 census as age 74, b in Ky. Any information would be appreciated, as I don't know his parents, who he went to live with, or even which side of the war his father served with.
I'm "wishing" for two things, in addition to anything else you might find helpful: a lookup in the county births for the years of 1855-57, and any tips you might have on finding who was made his guardian. I don't know if the county has a transcribed list for that time period or not.
Many thanks-

Looking for information on the John JONES family who came to KY from VA ca. 1790-1800.
John, the son of Thomas JONES, married Sarah SUGGETT (b.1751) probably in VA. Sarah is reported to have died in Clark Co. Ky in 1830.
Their daughter, Susannah Suggett JONES (b.1787) married Jonathan TAUL. in 1802. Other children were Thomas and Lucy Jones. Both John and his son, Thomas, used the initials
"CR" behind their name on documents. These initials stood for "Crooked Run", which was a small stream in Brunswick Co. VA which ran through their property.
