I feel so blessed again in my marriage after Doctor Oku brought back my husband that separated with me for good 3 mounths. Am Jessica Butler by name from USA. Even though i have mouths all over my body, it won't be enough to thank Doctor Oku for his help upon my life. My husband separated with me for the 3 months and have been in pains and agony without him. So, i searched for help everywhere but nothing worked out not until i meant Doctor Oku who i contacted online. I explained my situation to him and he promised that my husband will get back to me within 24 to 48 hours as far that my heart still beats for him. I believed in him and he prepared a spell for me and my husband called me exactly when Doctor Oku said. He pleaded and said he needs me back and now we are living happily again for the past 9 months. Everyone out there reading my article that needs help should contact him... Email: okutemple@gmail.com or call +2347053113465

what a wonderful world we are living, i still doubt this spell caster how he did it!!! i am Shechan Caroline am from Los Angeles I am so happy to let the whole word know how this powerful spell caster saved my marriage.Everything was going down the drain as my husband can not stop cheating on me with other women. It became used to always heating on me. I tried to make him stop, but I couldn't help the situation, the more I tried, the harder it becomes. At times we will fight and go apart for some months and we will come back again just because of our kids. One day a friend told me about this spell caster who helped her too, his name is Dr.oku, she said he uses white magic spells to solve spiritual problems. I decided to give it a try, I contacted him and he told me it will take just 2 to 3 days and I will see great changes in my husband. He actually cast a spell, believe me after 2 to 3 days of the spell, my husband was confessing different names of woman he has slept with. He begged for forgiveness and never to try it again. From that day till now, my mind is at rest. My husband dislike every other women on earth except me. And am so happy to have him for myself alone. The spell casters contact is okutemple@gmail.com or add him on whasapp +2347053113465

Am so excited to share my testimony of a real spell caster who brought my husband back to me. My husband and I have been married for about 9yrs now. We were happily married with kids, Few months ago, I started to notice some strange behavior from him and a few weeks later I found out that my husband is seeing someone else. He started coming home late from work, he hardly care about me or the kids,He packout of the house to live with the woman and i strongly believe that she did some spell on him because even when i beg my husband to come back to me he refuse and went to live with her. I did all I could to rectify this problem but all to no avail. I became very worried and needed help. As I was browsing through the internet one day, I came across a website that suggested that Dr OKAYA is capable of solving marital problems, restore broken relationships and Lottery spell . So, I felt I should give him a try. I contacted him and and told him my problems and he told me what to do and i did it and he did a spell for me. 48 hours later, my husband came to me and apologized for the wrongs he did and promise never to do it again. Ever since then, everything has returned back to normal. I and my family are living together happily again.. All thanks to Dr OKAYA If you have any problem contact him and i guarantee you that he will help you. He will not disappoint you. Email DR OKAYA at: OKAYASPELLHELP@GMAIL.COM or call/Whats app +27814506790

My name is Joanne am from Spain felt use a spell on him, I felt like ending it all, i almost committed suicide because he left us with nothing, i was emotionally down. But all thanks goes to Dr Osuko, who i met online on one faithful day, as I was searching for tips to get my husband back home, I came across several testimonies about this particular man. Some people testified that he brought their Ex lover back, some testified that he help them to get pregnant, cure cancer, and other sickness, some testified that he prayed to stop divorce and get a good paying job and so on. He is amazing, i also come across one particular testimony, it was about a woman called Stella Kyes, she testified about how he brought back her Ex lover in less than 4 days, and at the end of her testimony she dropped his email (osukospelltemple@gmail.com) After reading all these testimonies, I decided to give it a try. I contacted him via email (osukospelltemple@gmail.com) and explained my problem to him. In just 6 days, my husband came back to me. We resolved our issues, and we are even happier than ever. Dr Osuko you are a gifted man and thank you for everything you had done in my life. If you have a problem and you are looking for a real and genuine spell caster, Try him anytime, he is the answer to your problems. you can contact him on email: osukospelltemple@gmail.com and he will help you solve your problem..

My aunt said her dad (Clair McKinley Yoder) told her that his father was Amish (Ulysses Grant Yoder.) as a young man and left the order to find work. Another relative said no. I am confused - I hope this message is not confusing and you can help.

Samuel Oyster & Barbara Keller
Moses Keller Oyster & Elizabeth "Betsy" Kimes
Edward Pettit Oyster & Margaret "Maggie" Watson
Walter E. Oyster & Edith Victoria Graven
Harold Eugene Oyster & Esther Edna McNaull

I have been greatly enjoying your website and the way you are researching and putting the Yoders together. I wondered whether you have read Historic background and annals of the Swiss and German pioneer settlers of southeastern Pennsylvania
By H. Frank Eshleman. While it does not mention Yoders specifically, I think it provides a great overview of the conditions the Anabaptists and Mennonites and Amish faced in Switzerland and elsewhere. This provides good background on Hans and Yost's emigration, and perhaps explains why Yost's departure was not documented.

Would you like more information on the Oysters? These Yoder brides were related. And Barbara Yoder Oyster's mother-in-law was a Pennypacker. Former Governor Pennypacker set up a museum in eastern Pennsylvania that is similar to some of the Yoder museums.

I am looking to add to the family tree that my father started just prior to his death. He found that we came for Joder Sweden, I think, but there was also talk about Switzerland. His writings are difficult to follow, as he was very ill as he was attempting to leave us with out heritage. To my best knowledge, we are not from an Amish Clan, but can not be sure. I am delighted to find this sight, however am not finding any names that are familiar to me. I'll keep looking, and thank you for allowing the newsletter to be viewed. Sincerely, dina

Greetings, Yoders! I am a researcher interested in medieval manuscripts in the United States. According to a 1938 publication, one Albert Yoder of Grand Forks, ND, owned a few pages from various medieval manuscripts, but no one seems to know what happened to them after his death. If there's anyone in this group who can help me identify him or knows what happened to his library after his death, I would be most appreciative! Many thanks in advance for your help!

How My Great-Great-Grandmother, Phebe Ellen Tallman Yoder, Taught Me to Tat
My great-great grandmother taught me to tat. "But you are only 43 years old! How can that be?" you ask? I'll tell you.
When I was in my early 20s, I was at my grandmother Elizabeth (Betty) Harrison Brunner Schroeder's house and saw an antique sterling silver tatting shuttle with a name engraved on it. The engraving was difficult to read, as it was very tarnished, and well used. On the flip side, it was obvious from the great amount of wear, that someone had used this quite regularly -- the yellow decorative enamel had completely worn away in some spots.

I asked Grandmother about it and she told me it was my great-great-grandmother Phebe Ellen Tallman Yoder's tatting shuttle. Grandmother Betty said that she didn't know how to tat, and her mother never tatted, but she would pass the tatting shuttle along to me on one condition: that I learn how to tat.
I had a friend at work who tatted, which is how I knew what a tatting shuttle was, so I asked her to show me how to do it. For those of you who don't know, tatting is a very old way of making lace using a unique shuttle that holds the small thread (or a very long thin needle) and is made by passing the shuttle in and out of the thread making slip knots that create a pattern. It is believed that the early Egyptians used knotting techniques, along with the Chinese, but it really took hold and became more common practice around the 16th Century when women in court adopted the practice to keep their hands from being idle (royal women used to pose for their portraits and often had their shuttles in their hands painted into the picture).
Tatting often was called Beggar's Lace because it was relatively inexpensive to buy the thread, and anyone can make it. Sailors and fishermen use a similar type of shuttle to knot and repair their nets, and some believe tatting developed from them. The term "knotting" was used to describe the practice until 1843 when the word "tatting" was first used. Many people believed that tatting was a lost art in the late 20th Century, but when the Internet started taking off in the 90s, patterns, technique, blogs, and all kinds of tatting stores started popping up everywhere and tatting is now flourishing with many young designers making all kinds of jewelry and other unique uses for tatting (do a search for tatting on etsy.com, and you will see some amazing and unique art). Tatting is now done by men and women all over the world, and many people make or decorate their own tatting shuttles as well. Antique tatting shuttles are hugely collectible, and very difficult to find.
As I worked to get better at tatting, I finally tatted my very first snowflake and presented it to grandmother Betty as a Christmas present. She was very pleased (even though it was not very well done at all), and promptly handed me great-great grandmother Phebe's beloved shuttle. I have displayed it with pride since then. When grandmother Betty passed on, my aunt sent me Phebe's crochet hooks as well (see photo), which were all very much used. She had a very nice sheath for them, and she wrapped her tatting thread around the sheath. They are very delicate hooks, so I'm guessing that Phebe also enjoyed cro-tatting, a combination of using crochet and tatting to create unique patterns and designs. These tiny hooks are also used to connect the tatting, and I know she used them for that, at the very least.
There was only one actual piece of tatting, a small medallion, among my grandmother's sewing notions, and I assume that it was her grandmother's. It is pictured here as well.
Since I started tatting in the early 90s, I have been making jewelry, Christmas tree ornaments of all kinds, and book markers, especially cross book markers, for friends and relatives for holidays and birthdays. (See photo of the latest bracelet that I made for my mother.) It has definitely kept my hands from being idle, it relaxes me, and gives me hours of great pleasure. I am very grateful to my grandmother and her grandmother for teaching me, and encouraging me to tat, and for helping me find the lost art of tatting and bringing it back into that part of the Yoder family traditions.
If anyone else in the Yoder family tats, please email me at steph@the-jlb.com. And if anyone has any more of Phebe's actual tatting, I'd love to see photos! -- Stephanie Smith Wyllyamz, Daughter of Mary Elinor Schroeder Smith

Thanks for the helpful site! Wonderful to feel part of it all. I'm a late-comer in family research but am enjoying it very much. Here's my family line in simplest terms - fortunate to now have details to fill in each generation:

Stephen b. 1964
son of Warren b. 1938
son of Charles b. 1905
son of James b. 1858
son of Francis b. 1835
son of Henry b. 1804
son of Jacob b. 1767
son of Conrad b. 1725

In a few places I've seen questions about my James Marion Yoder - born Rockford, Iowa, September 10, 1858 - I do have his obituary and a long article about his life/work/death (original newspaper articles) if that information is of benefit to anyone.

Thanks for your faithful efforts on behalf of Yoders everywhere!

My name is Matt Singer. I am Senior Writer at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Curator for the Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art, and--as of this fall--will be a doctoral student in American Studies at Penn State-Harrisburg, studying with Dr. Simon Bronner.

As a doctoral student, I plan to investigate the encounter between Pennsylvania Germans and Yiddish and German-speaking (Ashkenazi) Jews from Central and Eastern Europe who settled in the so-called Pennsylvania Dutch Country from the eighteenth through early-twentieth century. While Pennsylvania Germans and American Jews have both been subjects of extensive scholarly research, this particular story of interaction and influence between two Germanic peoples whose disparate diasporas brought them to Southeastern and Central Pennsylvania has not (to my knowledge) been studied in depth.

I am writing for two reasons (at least): (1) I have been searching for a way to contact Professor Don Yoder, but to no avail--his voicemail message at the University of Pennsylvania indicates that the number is no longer in use; (2) I am particularly eager to find any personal memoirs, periodicals of the day, etc., that mention encounters between Pennsylvania Germans and Ashkenazi Jews (I'm assuming the most typical encounters would be between a Pennsylvania German farmers and Jewish peddlers, but I'm sure the possibilities extend far beyond that particular scenario).

My own Ashkenazic Jewish fanily settled in Pennsylvania German towns and cities such as Lancaster, Chambersburg (Franklin County), and Middletown (Dauphin County) between 1885 and 1890 and has married into families of Pennsylvania German and other German descent in the generations since, so this topic holds personal as well as academic/professional interest for me.

Thank you for your attention! I greatly appreciate it, and will be most grateful for any feedback.

Yours,
Matt Singer

My name is Del Routh and I may have some information of interest about your family genealogy. I am a Civil War buff and love to read and go to battlefields, doing limited research. Anyway I was at Spotsylvania battlefield and found a relative of mine named 1Lt. Alexander Routh buried in the Confederate cemetery there. I noticed a grave marked there also with the following names; Yoder, A. M. and Yoder, Robert. I have a book dated 1911, The Catawba Soldier OF THE Civil War, by George W. Hahn. In this book it states that these two were members of the 23rd, NC and both were killed at Spotsylvania court house, and are buried in the same grave? Date of death May 10th, 1864. I was looking at the webb site for more information on my relative and came across your site. If you would like a copy of this page from my book, I will send you one, and a picture of the grave site when I go back up there in the near future. I live near wil, NC.

Enjoyed your website tremendously. I descend thru Jacob Cunnius and Ester Yoder/Yotter, their daughter Catherine's marriage to James Creamer Long in Madison Co., KY - 1818. Ester was dead by 1808 as her widower, Jacob Cunius/Cunnius remarried 10 Dec 1808 to Mary Phelps in Madison, more than likely, because he had young children to take care of.

Chris, Rachel, and all at YNL:

I sincerely appreciate all the work everyone has put into this web site. I have enjoyed finding "my past" in my later years. I especially enjoyed YNL Issue #50 as it has the first picture I've ever seen of great grandfather Eli Yoder (YA245). His date of death was 1935, not 1955. I have pictures of his gravestone (Leo Cemetery) with dates for him and wife Elizabeth. Eli's brothers in the picture, Joseph J.(YA244) and Christian (YA248) are burried a few miles away in the Yaggy Cemetery outside of Grabill, IN. Does Lavon Yoder know of anymore pictures? Would love to hear from those who may have pictures / knowledge of Joseph (YA24) line.

I have three children 9, 11 & 13 yrs. old. They have begun asking me questions about our heritage and I remember my parents receiving a copy of the Yoder News in the early 80's which contained information about the Yoder heritage. Today I searched the internet to find that this newsletter is still published and looking at the website has been taken to a whole new level with DNA tracing back to 16th and 17th centuries. At some point in the near future I would like to find out which Yoder heritage my family came from.

I was wondering if you were kin to or if you knew Owen and Erma Yoder in Pratts VA. They have 5 or 6 children (grown) and they home schooled their children using the Advanced Training Inst. I think Brother Owen has been an elder in the Mennonite churches and also server as an elder with ATI.
They also owned Yoders Family Market in the Pratts area.
They are a sweet couple, I met them in Knoxville TN at an ATI confrence. I wrote them several times but have lost contact after our home burned. I would like to know (if you know them) how they are doing. How are their children?

I was born Michael Paul Yoder at Booth Memorial Hospital in Cleveland Ohio to Louella Yoder and an unlisted father. I met her and had several visits with her around 15 years ago. I discontinued contact with her at her request. She told me she was convinced that I had been in contact with my father and that seemed to frighten her. I also did not want to upset my adoptive parents. They have always refused to discuss anything about my adoption with me since I discovered it at about 7 years of age. My adoptive parents have since passed away and I now feel free to do more research on my Yoder line, but I do not want to distress Louella again. I know that she was 20 when she had me in 1951. She has a Brother Roy who I believe still lives in Sugarcreek Oh. I don't know of any sisters but she had at least one brother since I learned that one of her brothers was going to go out after my father, but his father wouldn't let him. I didn't want to post this on the mail list because I seemed to have stirred up problems meeting Louella and I don't want to cause problems with her or her family. Do you know of someone I could write to privately who might be able to help me learn more. It seems to me like my adoption was a rather unothodox procedure and I am a bit hesitant to make it public. I really appreciate any advice assistance you could give me. Steve Klay

YR23b4591 belongs to Mildred Fern Yoder, who is my great grandmother. However, she wasnt a biological daughter of (YR23b459) Jonathan James Yoder. She was simply raised by them and took the last name. Does anybody have any clue who Mildred Fern actually is? Where was she really born? No birth certificate of a Mildred Fern Yoder exists in the United States (which makes sense, since she wasnt born a Yoder). This Yoder website is AMAZING! (It would be neat if Yoder was my real blood).

I was looking up my Grandfather's name, and I found him under YR23.html. However, he is the last person listed. He was the youngest of John Michael Yoder (page 20 in the pdf file). Why didn't it provide the information of his 5 children?

Just curious.

I really need to know how to use your site to answer questions of heritage and spouse (from either end). There seems to be no instruction as to how one may, e.g., see if Jacob Yoder married Elizabeth Yoder and brought forth young David Yoder. Without YR numbers, how would one start looking up, say, Elizabeth Yoder, who might or might not be the offspring of Catherine Lyster and Yost Yoder?
I hope you can teach me.

Hi! I was searching on Yahoo for Alva/Elva Snyder in Penna., and this site was the only web result that I got. I started to research my father's family,a couple of months ago. My father Joseph William Snyder and his family lived most of their lives in the Bradford, McKean County area. But some did move around to other areas. All the Snyders that you have in this YODER Family History, have the same names as the Snyders from the Bradford area. I'm pretty sure that we do connect to this tree. I've just started to link the families together. I would be very interested in finding any info that you may have on the Snyders, as I do believe these are all related to my family. Some of the surnames im our family are, McIntyre, Waker, Fritz, Crisman, Smith, Young, Batterson, Russel and many more. My Grandfather was an oil producer & worked on the railroad. The family lived on the oil lease for many years. I remember going there for visits, when I was as young as five years old. I was born in Warren,Pa. My parents spilt and I spend over five years in ,The Children's Home,in Sheffield,Pa. Then we, my two brothers and sisters jioned my mother in New York, and I've lived here since. Although I do have vivid memories, I was very young, when I last saw any of my fathers family. I'm 62 yrs. old now, and I really want to know all about my roots. I have a need to put my house in order, foe me and my family. Sorry to ramble on. Please write to me,if you like. Look foward to hearing from you. Sonja J. Young

Hello. I have traced my family roots back to Christian Yoder YR12. I find this very interesting. My father is a Yoder and was raised in Belleville, PA. I lucked out and met an amishman probably 10 years ago who gave me alot of information. I have gathered most of mine from a book called "Amish & Amish Mennonite Geneologies". It was somewhat confusing at first but once I got the hand of it, it was simple. I find it interesting that my line I have many lines to Christian.

Dear Mr. Yoder,
I found this web site and I was very interesting in it because you see I came from Nancy Jane Yoder that married William James Suddeth. I was looking for more info on then. I am from Salem, Illinois and was always told about the amish people. I want to tell you that you have a very good web site for the Yoder family. I hope to hear from you soon.

Greetings to all of you from Indianapolis.

I am on a quest, that I'm sure some of the rest of you are on too: Who were the parents and siblings of the two cousins, Anna Traschel, that married the brothers Yost and Nicholas Yoder?

Please feel free to email me privately.

Just recently started diggiing into my history, and your site is the first real success that I've found. What a rush to actually find my name there!

FYI: My dad, John Cooke, Yoder ID# M252343, just passed away on 25 Jan 2002, not in 1997 as the Social Security Records show.

If you're interested in fleshing out the info on my siblings, drop me a line. I'd be glad to help.

I really appreciate your work. Thanks!

Hi,
I was husband to (now deceased) Ruth I. Yoder, daughter of Romnus J. Yoder YR2344b61. Thank you for the 2002 update using the records I sent you concerning Romanus' family. By-the-way, his wife, Emma Elvessie (Kramer) Yoder died on 9/22/84, and is buried in the Spartansburg, PA cemetery.
