I am looking for information on my G-G-G-G-grandfather Thomas Castle. Some of his children are listed as being born in Stanly. He died 9/13/1838 and is buried somewhere in Gold Hill. According to the 1830 Census, his address was "west side of the Pee Dee River." He was in the Revolutionary War 1776-82 and may have received a land grant.
Thanks,

My great grandmother was Clara Bell Wilson, who married J. F. Pace in Rowan Co., NC. After his death in 1901, she remarried--probably around 1905-- to Rev. Henry Frank STARR. In 1920 they were in Stanly Co., Ridenhour township.

Can anyone give me information on the church or activities of Rev. H. F. Starr and wife Clara while in Stanley Co. NC? They are both buried in Guilford Co., NC, which I think is where Rev. Starr originated.

Marriage of Josiah Carter to Sarah A. LEFLER from marriage books from Stanly Co.
J. L. CARTER, son of Nancy CARTER to Sarah A LEFLER daughter of Eli and Mary J. LEFLER on 04 Oct 1868 by J. R. Littleton, Minister Book II page 6.
You will find Nancy CARTER living with Edmond LILLY in the 1850 census of Stanly Co. NC. His wife, Rebecca CARTER had just died in Oct 1849. She is found in the mortality schedule for Stanly CO. Also listed in this mortaility schedule is Travisse CARTER age 49 who died in April 1850. I think that this is Nancy's husband and that she was keeping house for Edmond and caring for his children. I also think she was pregnant at this time and had Ridley Ann Carter, her other child sometime either late in 1850 or early in 1851. Ridley Ann's age in the next censuses fits this age.Lewis Carter was alive in 1850 and had several people living with him. (sisters) He didn't marry until much later. He was still alive when Josiah married, so if he was Josiah's father, why wasn't he listed on the marriage license? I don't understand why no father was listed unless, since he was deceased, they didn't bother to list him. This has been one of my on-going puzzles in the CARTER family. I descend from George and Nancy CARTER. George and Rebecca CARTER LILLY were siblings, childrem of Joshua CARTER, Jr.

I am looking for famiy connections in the Stanley Co area. I have just moved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virignia from Maryland and have a new e-mail address. I know that my Coble/Morgan family lived in that area in the late 1800's to early 1900's. I am a great-grandchild of William Franklin Coble (born 1870's, his first wife was Isabel Mauldin)and Julia Lindy Morgan (born 1880's) William's parents were David(born 1840-1844) and Priscilla Coble. I have made some connections in the area with William's older brother John's family. Is there anyone else out there looking too? How about the Morgan side? I am looking for Mike Giles or Michael Jiles Morgan and his wife, Eliza Ann Wiles or Miles possibly. I know that at one point many years ago Julia's brothers Burlie Coy Morgan or Nathan Morgan were trying to keep track of the family and tried to keep in touch, but through our side of the tree we drifted apart somehow. I know that Great-Uncle Burlie passed away a few years ago at the age of 100 or so. I was always told that we had a pretty large family in that area that had reunions at one time. Could anyone provide any local insight ? My cousin Jim Coble has mentioned a relative named Doug Hatley was looking also. Are there any others in our tree searching too ? Are there any keepers of the family records out there still ? I know the family also spread through Anson Co and Rowan Co areas, but my Great-Aunt Daisy Coble Harris often mentioned places like Richfield, Norwood and such. Does anyone else know of or remember the family and their story, we are all hoping to reconnect and share what we can, we don't want any of them to be forgotten.

Greetings to all. I am currently researching my wife’s family from Cottonville. The Thompson family ran a small store on Plank Road in front of the Cottonville Baptist Church. The store is now gone but the memories linger. I have found several Internet postings about this family’s history, but census information doesn’t agree with the published genealogy. Several family members are interred at Cottonville Baptist Church Cemetery including Paul A Thompson, both Jr and Sr, Paul Sr's wife Bertha Mae McIntyre and Adolphus Addison Thompson and his wife, Dora M Deese. The family is also linked to the Hunneycutt (all spellings), Blalock, Boysworth, and Almond and Farmer families. I would love to share information on this family and any memories of those who visited the store.

JAMES ROGERS SR. b. bet. 1700-1720 ( no place of birth ) may have had other children than JAMES ROGERS, JR. b. abt. 1746.

JAMES ROGERS JR. b. abt. 1746 had following children listed in the ROGERS Files in STANLY CO. NC Library at ALBERMARLE.

WILLIAM ROGERS is my direct line, as he was my GGG Grandfather b. 1770 NC and he had married NANCY UNKNOWN ( some list her as CHEATHAM but no verification ) and they had the following Children verified by the 1842 Will of WILLIAM ROGERS of CARROLL CO. TN.

More About NANCY E. CHEATHAM:
Burial: 1860, Old Pisgah Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery, Carroll Co. TN

Children of WILLIAM ROGERS and NANCY CHEATHAM are:

2. i. EZEKIEL4 ROGERS, b. Abt. 1793, North Carolina; d. May 1855, Carroll Co. TN..

10. xi. JOSHUA A. G. ROGERS, b. 1821, North Carolina; d. March 07, 1877, Carroll Co. TN.

I have accumulated some documentations on these ROGERS in the way of Court Records both in NC and TN, that I would be willing to place on the Stanly Co. NC site, but I haven't figured out where on the site they should be place, and am hoping that we can have a section for WILLS, CENSUS DATA, NC PETITIONS that others signed as well as my Rogers, as I believe it might help others to have our documents to look at and see if their families are listed as well.

Some are not aware in Stanly Co. NC of the mass migration out of the MONTGOMERY CO. NC area in 1822-35 into CARROLL CO. TN that occurred before STANLY CO. NC was created from Montgomery Co. NC in 1841. As so many lines in TN connect back to the area now known as STANLY CO. NC then it is most helpful to some of us to have those petitons and documents that are available and haven't been burned in Court House fires, to verify our lines. GEORGE THOMAS has been most gracious to place a lot of the petitions on his site, and as I don't have a site, would just like to post what I have gathered on the STANLY CO. NC site for others in as simple a manner as possible.

Good Luck, Stanly Co. NC site, as I hope it will be an even better site with many contributing their information on these many lines who came out of what is known as ANSON, then MONTGOMERY, then STANLY CO. NC.

Thanks,
Tina Rogers Beller

Comments:
I am trying to find census data or some other document which will document William Poplin's (b. 1748/48) father. According to the census data I obtained in the past, it seems that William Poplin (born 1748/49) is Richard Poplin's (born before 1775) father. However, there is a very small possibility George (born about 1720) (William's father) could be Richard's father making William and Richard's brothers.

I am also looking for any documents linking to George Poplin born about 1720 to his parents. There are some Goochland County, Virginia documents about a George Poplin in 1744, but they do not give his age or date of birth, so I can not be certain this is the same George.

Can you tell me where Eldorado is (or was) located in Stanly County? I have found it mentioned in some papers from around 1917. Is it possible that there could have been a school there?
