Enjoyed both your Rootsweb newspaper extractions from Rochester,NY, and own family web site. Is this more what you would call, your URL site? Great way of networking your family surnames. This past fall of 2009, while in Rochester doing genealogical research, joined Rochester Gen Society and computer group. Researching Heavey, Conroy, and Cook, in Rochester and Ireland. And Rogers, Lewis, Cave, Wheeler,Jaeger, Breining, and Whiteaker from other areas. With exception of Cave, Jaeger, and Breining, all go back to early 1600s, in immigration to colonial New England.

I came across your pages while idly looking for Sitton on a search engine. My aunt (Gladys Sitton Marley) did extensive research on the Gibson-Sitton genealogy and at one time had a copy of the book that was done in the early 20th century. We have traced our family back to the crossing from England in the 1700's (sorry I don't remember the dates). My sister and I are continuing our aunt's work and are interested in gaining more information. Teresa Sitton Pierce

Hello Aunt Glenda and Uncle Ted! It's your long-lost neice from Virginia.....

I was so surprised and pleased to see your website and that you have included information about the Subyak side of the family! I've been curious about my "roots" and did a google search and your fabulous site popped up.

The photos are wonderful and it is amazing to see uncle Ted and you and your growing family! I'm a photographer in Washington DC on Capitol Hill now (that Kodak point-and-shoot you gave me all of those many years ago got me started! along with my brother's early enthusiasm for the craft). I've done well, having been published and exhibited at a major museum. In any event, please drop me a line and let me know how you and the family are doing!

Love,
Lana

Thanks for all you do with the Monroe County Digest - L
I am origionally from Rochester and am doing reverse Genealogy. I went back to my 5th ggrandpa and am now searching out all his ancestors. I am doing really well so far. The main name is O'BRIEN (moms family) MUNGENAST / FREUNDSCHUH (Moms Moms family) First Family of Monroe County or what ever they call it Jacob KLEIN. My Fathers family RUEDENAUER don't know much - JENNINGS Dads (Mothers Family) Someday I might come to Rochest to see what the historian for Clarkson / Brockport has available. I am the end of the RUEDENAUER LINE - my dad and his sister Shirley are both in their 80's. I am an only child and have no 1st cousins on my dads side so I am contacting my Grandmothers Sisters children. As far back as I've gone on all my lines I am now working down to the present. I really enjoy Genealogy.

I love your person banging his / her head on the keyboard. LOL <VBG> I feel that way somedays.

Well, I guess thats all. I belong to the Rochester Genealogical Society and the Computer Interest Group.

Glenda, Saw your post on Monroe Cty. list. The last name 'match' is uncanny, as any Subjak searches come up empty, so we wonder if the spelling has been corrupted. My husband's grandfather was Stefan (Stephen) Subjak, who was born in Lysa pod Makytou, Slovakia in 1879, and settled in WI when he came over (not sure of the date -- need to check with his last surviving daughter). My Pease ancestors resided in Monroe County on their way to OH and IN. I thought I was the only descendant in WI, til this week when I found out that some of my ancestors had siblings who have already been here. Now to find out if I have cousins here. This is such great fun. If you can help us make any sense of the Subyak/Subjak mystery, pls let us know asap. Thanks so much. Sharon

I love reading the newspaper abstracts for Monroe County. I'm always looking for my Miller line (started in Bath, wound up in Rochester); and Lape line (started in Renssalaer County, then to Yates, then to Rochester). I know I'll probably never find them in your extracts, but I love reading them, just the same!

Nice web page. How do you decide which dates and parts of newspapers you send to the Monroe County-L?

I'm new to genealogy. I'm impressed with the amount of stuff available online for Monroe County. I've found a lot of my relatives in the Mount Hope Cemetery listing already. Is your gen. club just more active than the other counties, or is it because Rochester is a bigger city?
I hope to get there someday and investigate in person.
Thanks for what you do--Patricia

I very much enjoy all information about Pike County and specifically Pittsfield contained in this Web site. I was born in Hadley Township Jan 28, 1931. My parents, Harry Clinton Coultas and Freda Mildred (Nichol) Coultas, reared their children in Pittsfield, Illinois. Both parents worked in the Brown Shoe Company until they decided to migrate to California in 1943 during World War II. I have attempted to start a Genealogy chart on my family (Coultas)

My ancestor, Jason Baker was the Monroe County treasurer(1858-64) He lived at 1600 Highland Ave. Owned the property where the Rochester Brick & Tile Work was. Also, the property where eventually Kodak built on State St. It appears that he stole the county's money and at his death the county took the money from his estate to repay the treasury. The property that is now Cobb's hill belonged to Jason Baker. I have done extensive research in the original records while my daughter was at RIT in the early 90s. What surprises me is that no one seems to know about him. I would love to have a picture of him and have inquired many places about old photographs of county officials but no luck. Thought I would share this with you since I see you name so often connected with Monroe county and I hope you keep me in mind if you ever hear of him.

Thank you so much for your kindness... I really appreciate your looking up the genealogical society volume 16 index for James Lemuel Smith. Deosn't look like it's "my" James Lemuel Smith as the birth dates are way off, and I do know of all the children that "my" James Lemuel Smith had (did not have a James L. Smith, Jr.. I do wonder though about your being tied to Monroe County, N.Y. as this is where "my" James Lemuel Smith was born. Coincidence ?

Thanks again and best wishes to you...

Very nice site and good links. By the way, are you related to any Burnetts in Greenfield Ill? I have a friend here in Florida that could be your daughter! After we met, we discovered both our mother's lived in Greenfield. How ironic, since it's so small. In fact, when visiting one winter I went by and met her mother. I believe her married name was now Martin. She worked at the Shell station there in town.

I am researching John Calvin Smith, born February 11, 1847, near Brockport, New York, s/o Ezra? & Eliza Smith. In a small family history written by my grandaunt, she states that her grandfather was Ozery Smith born 1795 unk. Marriage license for John Calvin Smith and Mary Ann Rutherford, (Spring Green, Sauk County, Wisconsin, October 11, 1868) states John's father as Ezra and mother as Eliza. Parents for Mary Ann Rutherford are listed as A. S. Rutherford and R. Rutherford. Mary Ann Smith's death certificate indicates that her mother was Rachael Fenner. I believe her father to be Andrew Rutherford. Any possibility that our Smith families could be related?
