Elms, owned/ran the Murray Hotel in Silver City where my mother, Betty Raye Elms and her brother, John Keith Elms grew up. Betty Raye was born in Santa Rita, August 25, 1929 and was raised by Alda and Ray Elms. Alda married Ray when Betty was 3 years old and her birth mother died sometime before that. Betty never knew her mother's family and we now are looking for any surviving relatives. Betty was told that her mother's name was Justine Harrington. If anyone has any information, please contact me. Thanks.

I was looking at your Railroad history data for New Mexico Railroads, and I have a couple of corrections for you. They may have already been spotted by others. In your list of NM railroads, two need correction. Texas, Santa Fe and Northern is missing the "Fe" in your table, and the Tierra Amarilla and Southern is spelled "Tierra Amarillo" as in the city in Texas. Also the D&RGW 3' narrow gauge railroad, otherwise known as the "Chili Line" or the Santa Fe Branch, terminated in Santa Fe, not Lamy as stated, please correct that error. Otherwise this is a nice site! I would however like to know much more about the trolly car / interurban system that ran in Albuquerque up until the late 20's , 1928 I believe, when the car barn on 12th st. burned to the ground, destroying all the rolling stock and equipment for the traction line in Albuquerque. There seems to be very little documented about this, no maps or anything even though it was around for several years, with trolly cars in Albuquerque dating back to the horse drawn units of the 1880s. Was it all completely destroyed without any city records left whatsoever? I'm very curious about the traction line in Albuquerque of which there is just scant evidence left in the form of some embedded track in the street at 4th and Central as a sort of remnant reminder. Thanks for correcting the issues mentioned and get back to me if you can uncover anything about the trolly lines in Albuquerque which at one time were reported to be quite extensive running up the valley along Edith and down through Barrelas and out to Old Town. Thanks and Good luck! Joe Kosty, Albuquerque

I am not having a whole lot of luck searching for my ancesters as I have a relatively small family on my mothers side, the side I was brought up in. And my mothers father was adopted at birth. And my mother also had one brother who was also adopted at birth, from his adopted mother's sister. Back then and even in the late 1930' s and the early 1940's I can't find any kind of public information on adoptions that I can research myself without having to pay a fortune to someeone else, so I have pretty much stuck . Unsure where to search I just happened upon this ssite and to greatffortune I copied alot of the reading from the Second and Forth Waves and all the books that I can read also and am very excited to start reading any and all this information I collected from this site. Thsi is for my own reading. In hopes I can find out some kind of History of where I came from. This is and has been one of my dreams for quite a while now. And like I mentioned earllier I am not having a whole lot of luck. SSo, all I can do is keep trying and keep my dream active in hopes that one day my dream can and will become a reality.. I thourghly enjoyed this site and the information I was able to obtain from it. But mostly I will forever enjoy the knowledge I have already learned from it and am really excited to finish my reading. So, Thank-You for all of your site it was amazing for my eyes to have soaked up.......

Sincerely,

In the 1920's, a group of families from Dona Ana County moved as a group to California by train.

Our ancestors from this area did not keep records beyond their immediate generation but US Census for New Mexico and California confirm that their anchestors were primarilly from Dona Ana, New Mexico, and Yesleta, Texas.

The largest mix of these families settled in Lincoln, California to work for Gladding McBean & Co., others remained in Southern California to work in the agricultural fields in Los Angeles and San Bernardino.

A sample of relatives, all born in Dona Ana, Dona Ana, New Mexico:

Florentino Melendrez/Elena Lujan: b.1872/b.1874

Alfredo Lujan / Unknown Lopez: b.1867/b.?

Arhibald's mother and my great grandmother were sisters and both were born in Carroll County, Arkansas. Their parents were Andrew Jackson and Margaret Boyd Killian. There were several other children born in Carroll County to Andrew and Margaret. I have info on most of them but am trying to track down where Malissa & Alfred P Carson went when they left Carroll Co. They lived in Mills Co. Texas and in
Modesto, CA, before Archiald died in De Baca, NM in 1938.

This is a great site. I am new to geneology. The main family name I am tracing is "Aragon." So far I have have discovered direct ancestors in the Alburquerque area in the late 1700's and migrating Aragon's to "La Valle" La Questa, and del Salado both areas along the Pecos River. I would like to discover my "Garcia" roots, but am over come by the number of New Mexicans with this sur-name.

I have no documentation on either of them however they were both supposively born in New Mexico. My grandmother Guadalupe's parents were Francisco Barragan and Rosario Barragan ( I do not have her madien name)This is where I am right now . I have been researching the Abeyta surname ( there plenty of Abeytas)but I have not made any connection to my grand parents yet. I have been told by some relatives that the Family line is in New Mexico and perhaps in Colorado earlier. I am still looking for possible research sources.
