Hi,
Was trying to locate the Kiddle family name website which I first viewed about 10 years ago but now can't trace. I believe it was run by a distant lady relative of mine called Terry Kiddle Gordon. More recently I saw an old photo she had published of her Grandmother Hannah who was the image of Aunt Edith, my dad's eldest sister who would have been born somehwere around 1900.
Because of the close resemblance between Hannah and Edith, maybe Terry is not such a distant relative of mine after all!
Anyway, any contact details would be welcome.
Thanks.

We are researching Morgan Family, John Sherwood Morgan was our Great Uncle. The Henry & Celia refered to in Family Bible Discovery are our Great Grandparents via Henry George Morgan [he was also a corn miller and was at Newark with his wife Emma Brown in Newark in 1901. According to our family legend Henry and Celia moved to Sheffield not too long before she died for work and Celia died of a broken heart at leaving Kent. I think the bible must have gone to Merseyside with the second son William John who married a Liverpool girl Ellen Brown [no relation of Emma] in 1902 and was still in the Liverpool area when his daughter Thora was born in 1910. The third son John Sherwood emigrated to Canada after WW1 with his wife Isabel [Mabel] Robinson, and we can remember him coming to England in the 1950s and 60s. Hope this can fill in a few gaps! Have also got details of Celia's grave at Sheffield.

Excellent site.
I am curious about John Sherwood bc 1798 Shipton Bellringer HAM who married Sarah Habberfield (baptized 31 July 1796 at South Tidworth HAM, buried 3 Jun 1870 Kimpton HAM). John and Sarah were married 10 July 1821 at South Tidworth HAM. They had five children all baptized at Kimpton: Jane baptized 12 Dec 1824, John baptized 4 Nov 1827, Harriet baptized 26 Sep 1830, Thomas baptized 16 Mar 1834 and George baptized 18 Feb 1838. Jane married William Cotterill 21 Feb 1852 at Kimpton. Do you have this line? Unfortunately I do not have the marriages for the siblings of Jane although I could check the Kimpton parish registers (fiche) if you do not have them.

I am a decendant of Thomas Sherwood(1548). My main line is Thomas,Thomas(1586),Thomas(1624),Samuel(1664), Daniel(1708),Daniel(1735),Ralph(1764),Walter(1799),CharlesBurr(1825) and Mary Elizabeth(1857) my gggrandmother. I also have another main with cousins marrying Thomas(1624),Benjamine(1669),Benjamine(1700),John(1730),William(1770) and Caroline(1800). William married Abigail Burr that picks up the Burr side of the family(one of them). The Sherwoods, Burrs, Jennings and Seeleys cross over quite a bit in the family. I have only been researching a lot for about 1 1/2 years. My mother, Lois Jennings Seeley, had a lot of the research already done by an aunt, so I just keeping it going and filling it out more. It is all quite interesting.

Hi I live in North Elmham in Norfolk, born in Kings Lynn in 1967, unfortunately I have lost my Dad, Michael in 1990 to MS and I have lost contact with my Mum due to family break up.
I would like to search my ancestry and wonder if anyone in the Sherwood field can help.
My Grandfather, Philip who died in 1980 had a shoe shop in Swaffham and I believe Lincoln.
Any Sherwoods out there want to help?

I was both pleased and surprised to find a site totally dedicated to "Sherwood". My sister has been researching the family tree for the last 7 to 8 years and has quite a volume of information. We both reside in Alberta Canada and have all our lives. Have a great day and I hope to visit the site from time to time.

Hi it's great to see that there are quite a few Sherwood's about. My family are from Skipton, North Yorkshire. But I have traced my family back to 1871 to find a Wiliam Sherwood born in Pocklington near York. Are there any Sherwood's left in Pocklington? He was a railway worker who moved from Pocklington to skipton in time for the 1901 census. He married a Jane Crabtree who was a weaver from Saltaire west yorkshire. Does this ring a bell with anyone.
Great site

Hello Everybody! This is a very good website - thank you. It does what you tell it to. My maternal gg-grandmother was Sarah SHERWOOD/SHAREWOOD bapt. Iden Sussex in 1810. She married Henry HUTCHISON in Brede in 1837. Sarah's parents were John and Sarah SHERWOOD who lived in Peasmarsh. I've been trying for years to find out more about them. I think they might have been Methodists with links in Rye, but am not sure.

Great site! Didn't realize when I started researching my Sherwood line, that there was so much to find. My grandfather Frank W. Sherwood, had our tree done years ago but it was lost. Now I have to start almost from scratch. What I have for sure, is that there were 3 brothers who were Barrons, who had a falling out with the Crown (yrs unknown); left England. When they came to 'the new world', they took the name of 'Talcott'. One brother went to New England, one to New York and the other went West. The brother who went West wasn't able to be traced, so their land in England reverted to the Crown. This family's tree through marriage's of the Meech's, Parkers, Wells/Welles, and the Sherwood's, traces it's history back to William the Conqueror. I'm trying to find the connection.

My greatx9 Granparents were Thomas Sherwood & Sarah Seabrook. How are we related? Thomas & Sarah had John who married Sarah Hurd & had Thomas who married abigail darling. They had John who married Hannah Parich. Their daughter Jerusha married Isaac Bunnel whose daughter Jemima married Benjamin Kierstead. The story then continues with an odd twist. Their son Leonard married Mary Jane Moffett. Their son Justus married Eliza ann Rouse- these two had a son named Richard who married Alba Chapman. Theid daughter Prudence Kierstead then married Arthur Wesley Kierstead who is the son of Leonard Kierstead & Mary Jane Moffett. Prudence & Arthur then had Laila who married John Nickerson. Their daughter Dorothea married H. Ervin Glidden. The two of them had Sandra who married Earl Ronan then they had ME! Also, as a point of interest, the Thomas' skip generations & appear to alternate with Johns along the way. That seems to clear up some of the confusion regarding all the different Thomas'.

My gg-grandfather was George Sherwood, gunmaker, born in Yorkshire about 1804, and his family connected to St. Peter, Leeds. He was a bachelor and had been living and working at 69 High Street, Old Portsmouth, Hampshire. By the 1851 Census he had married Margaret Dawson (Gilling, Yorks) at St. Mary, Portsea, in January 1830, widow of John Prince, Clockmaker of 68 High Street, Portsmouth, and was living there with her and their children They also had a shooting range where naval officers could practice. In writing all this, I must say that I am not a member of the Guild of One Name Studies, having found your site from reading something on Genbrit today. I would naturally be interested to hear of any connection.

I'm currently doing research on behalf of my cousin and am interested in the James Adams Sherwood and his ancestors.
James Adams Sherwood was born on 18 February, 1843 at 18 China Walk, Lambeth. His father was John Sherwood, a Shoemaker, and his mother was Sarah Clarke Sherwood, formerly Adams.
He married REBECCA ADA DELECOR 1862 in Greenwich. She was born 1844 in Ireland, and died 1880 in Greenwich.
James was also a Boot and Shoe Maker.
Has anyone any further information on this branch of the Sherwoods, please?

My grandfather Willian Nelson Sherwood was born in Elmira, New York 1882. His parents were Luke and Eunice (Unis) Quick Sherwood (1880 Census). I am looking for information on Luke and wish to know who his parents are.
The name Alonzo showed up in William's papers and is maybe a clue?
William told me his mother died and Luke remarried (maybe to Eunice's sister Anne Quick.) He said there were half brothers born ith the second wife..
Willian left home when young, because he didn't like his step mother. He married Elizabeth Steele about 1901 at Monmouth, Illinois. They lived and died in Knox County, Illinois.
William and Elizabeth Sherwood left no male descendants with the Sherwood name.

He met Donald Sherwood, from Taughannock, PA, who is represents PA in the US House of Representatives! Donald's father is Walter A.
