I found your website very interesting. My Grandfather (Ora Bailey) had a dairy farm in East Barnet next to the school. He died in the late 60's. My father attended the East Barnet school and told the story of hitting the teacher in the back with a rock because he was the only kid to be able to throw a rock through the open window of the upstairs. They lived in the farmhouse across the street. My uncle Marvin lives there now and has remodeled the house. Carrie Somers was a 2nd cousin to me. I think it was in the late 60's she died. She was living in Mount Dora, Florida at the time. As far as I know she had been living there since the 40's. My Dad moved to Florida around 1945 or 1946 for health reasons and she put him up until he could get out on his own. Hope this is helpful. I would be happy to answer any questions. I know my Uncle Robert Warden did an extensive family history in the 60's and 70's. Sincerely, Frank Bailey Jr

I am perplexed by the tone of a statement in this site which begins - "The information contained in this link has been challenged. The challenger claims there were only four Somers branches, not five. He also claims that ...". The site referenced by the challenger is mine. I created the site because I believe, but have not proved, that I am connected to Thomas Gilkerson Somers, listed in Wells' book as one of the children of Robert Somers and Harriet Almeda Sheldon, and I hope someday that a visitor to the site might provide additional information to help me prove, or disprove, that connection. In my home page, I have highlighted contradictory information I noticed in Wells' book, and I don't doubt that there are other, similar, problems in the book, I just think that the challenger should have directed his comments to the book in itself, and not my web site.

I'm not sure where you got the information on college graduates but you have William R. Monteith listed for Dartmouth, 1870. At that time he was about 56 years of age! Actually, it was his son, Henry Ruthven Monteith, who graduated and became a teacher, high school principal and college professor after having acted as head of the McIndoes Academy for at least a year.
Henry was my great-grandfather. He was born in VT - his mother was a Gilchrist and descended from the Walter Brock and Claud Stuart as well so I have many Barnet roots. I'd love to see more material on the Barnet families posted and maybe cemetery listings and so on as well. It would also be great to get some of the Wells material posted with corrections where possible - perhaps your visitors could help with that.

I enjoyed the site. My relative Timothy Hazeltine was born 1806 in Barnet. He was a blacksmith. He ended up in Wilmington NY and is buried in the Haselton Cemetery, all that is left of the town of Haselton. Wilmington is about ten miles from Lake Placid. I would be interested in what the likely route he might have taken to get from Barnet to Haselton. I have ended up down the road in Lebanon NH. Enduring these winters must be genetic. Thanks Dan H
