What would you like added? I would share memoir story if I could determine the name of the one room school
Comments:
Ruth S. Millay taught at a one room school 15 miles out of Lucile either 1921 - 1922 or 1922 - 1923. She has a good narrative of this in her memoirs, but I do not know the school's name. Had 4 - 5 students and was quite new at that time. Just need to document the school, could be cow creek or crook's corral

Hello. Very nice site. Thank you. My great grandfather was William Short. He established a (tracer?) mine outside of Riggins sometime before the turn of the century. It took his name, Short's Bar. My grandmother Martha was born there. I have very little information and the name Short does not appear in any of the lists you have on your site. Any hints would be appreciated. Also, my wife and I recently went on a float trip down the lower Salmon. About 6 miles downstream from Hammer Creek where we put in, there is another Short's Bar. That was confusing.
Thank you,
Mike McQuary

I have just now found this site, looks to be quite helpful and interesting. My Grandmother and two aunts (died as baby,s )are buried at Tahoe ridge cemetery. My Grand parent's and all their kid's (including my father) had a homestead on Battle Ridge about 1907. I have some handwritten history one of my uncles wrote that gives the history of them when they lived in Idaho. My sister and I would love to come and see the area some day. I live in LaGrande,Or. and she lives in Pharump,Nev. Thanks for having this site Bob Crader sr.

My father John Peter Weber, MD was a physician in Grangeville from around 1925 to 1940. He lived there with his second wife Ida Mae Ells who died around 1935, married a lady with the first name of Hazel later ( found in 1940 US Census with unknown maiden name) and met my mom Alice Sell King (who was I believe a junior high school principal there . They left Idaho County around 1942 lived a short time in Ada County and I grew up in Mountain Home. Mom's maiden name was Sell and King was the name of her first husband John Elmo King and they lived in Weiser for about 4 years before they were divorced and she got the job in Grangeville. Thanks for any info you can give me. My brother has written a book about my dad (historical fiction) of which I could give you a copy when I come there in May.

Thank you for your work with this site. I especially appreciate the cemetery information. I am related to the Kidders, for whom Kidders Ridge was named (just east of Kooskia). The Webbs and Kidders came west together from Missouri. The two families were intermarried even before they left for Idaho. My late paternal grandmother, Mary Hazel Webb, was three years old when she arrived in Idaho County, with her extended family and the Kidders. I will send more information after Christmas. Hope you have a nice holiday season! H.H.

First, THANK YOU for taking care of this Idaho County site. I grew up in Riggins (although was born in Wallowa Co., OR, in 1936). You can read about me in my mother's biography, which I published in 2004: A Hells Canyon Romance, by Murrielle McGaffee Wilson (it used to be available at The Book Shoppe, but I guess it's closed now; so try Canyon House gift shop[ in White Bird---unless they're sold out).
I'm periforally (sp) searching for William M. Wilson, who I think may be buried in Kamiah (but not listed in the East Kamiah cem you have here. He is indirectly my namesake, and is oldest child of my gx2 grandparents, John and Mahala (Scott) Wilson, who came to OR in 1851; my great grandfather, James Thomas Wilson was their 10th child. William M. Wilson was married to Mary Too-Ma-Les-Poo (sometimes called Sally Ann), a Nez Perce woman. They had a homestead on Wilson Creek, 9 miles east of Kooskia. You can read about them in Sister Elsensohn's two volumes: Pioneer Days in Idaho County.
Probably enough for now.

Still trying to find out more about the elusive John Elias 1862-1917. He was born in Michigan, probably the Keweenaw Peninsula, to Nicholas von Elias 1833-1921 and Elizabeth Schnettler Elias 1830-189?. He lived in Houghton County, Michigan; Liberty Twp., Manitowoc County, Wisconsin; Oregon: Ontario, Malheur County (1900 census), Milton, Umatilla County (1910 census). He was married to a woman from Denmark named Mary (b.1874, unk. maiden name) and had one child, Elizabeth, born 1898 in an unknown location in Idaho. If anyone has more information, please feel free to contact me. John is buried in Prairie View Cemetery, Grangeville but I don't have a picture of the grave or even of him to provide. He was known as a painter (houses, etc.) but also had real artistic talent although unknown if he used it once he left Michigan. This man is my great-grandmother's only brother and it is unknown after 1900 what happened to his wife and child.

Comments:
I have a great deal of information pertaining to the above named persons, and am doing on-going research for a publication on Lycurgus Vineyard, resident of Grangeville. Vineyard lies in an unmarked grave at Normal Hill Cemetery, having gone to St. Joseph's for care, and died there 14 March 1919.

I am also in the process of an application for a standard government headstone (Confederate service) to mark the grave of this notable Idahoan. I sent this application forward to the VA on 5 May 2009. Normal Hill Cemetery staff will receive the headstone once it is approved. After which, I will attempt to have it placed perhaps with assistance of local Scouts/citizens.

I am currently seeking information (for completeness) after WWI on Vineyard's son, Richard R. Vineyard. Richard was still in France at the time of his father's burial in 1919...with the 2nd Army in the 100th Aero Squadron (Day Bombardment), 2nd Day bombardment Group.

I would be interested in sharing or presenting the information I have on several of the above Idaho County Confederate veteran pioneers...Incidentally, Carol Anglen, whom you likely know, is my m-i-l.

A local indian tribe stole their oxen they replaced them with several teams of horses to complete their journey to Kidder's Ridge,ID.

In 1895, the Nez Perce Indian Reservation was opened for settlement. I have been trying to find what county/counties annexed this land. Graingeville librarian claimed your Idaho County was one. I'm not sure where or if this will fit in anywhere but it is worth a shot. I am looking for my biological father who probably does not even know he is a father. Leona McNett (formally Robinson) is my biological mother. My problem is she has refused to tell me who my dad is & she does know. She had a brief relationship with a man she went to Sandpoint college with. As soon as she found out She was pregnant she moved to CA with her sister & husband, had me, her sister adopted me & she went back to ID. She never told the guy she was pregnant. So I need to post an ad or something asking the men there if they had or know anyone who had relations with Leona Robinson about 34 years ago? Any suggestions on where I should put ads? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bruce

Comments:
So far, all I have found on our Staffords are the grave listings on this website. If I gather more information, I would like to contribute to the website. Joshua Stafford and his son, Solomon apparently went from Spokane to Harpster to look for gold and died there within a few months of one another. Solomon's wife may have continued to live there.
