Thanks, Steve Barneby

Mary,

Letting you know we were here. Several of my wife Ruth's relatives are buried in "Caviness Cemetery". I would say that from the findagrave photos this must be what was originally the Caviness family cemetery which was "gobbled up" by other families and given a "big name". Am I right?

I am looking for Lousiana Lamb Duke. She was born 1855 & died in 1887 in Delta Co, but one of the Uncles said that she was buried near Roxton. I recently found a tombstone on findagrave that has Duke on the base, but the large part has fallen off and the ones who posted it marked it as unknown Are there any records of burials in that cemetery?
How can I find out who the Duke is in Restland Cemetery?
I would be most appreciative if I could find Lousiana Duke's grave.

Sandy Bohannon told me how you helped to find information about her grandmother and recommended this site. I notice it is in a different county than my grandfather Jack, but I am an optimist and am looking everywhere for him. He married Fannie Bell Parker in Texas, supposedly Van Alstyne, and died when his daughter Annie Authur/Arthur/Auther was about three in 1800's. Just having started genealogy within the past few years, I can appreciate all the work you have done and congratulate you. If you have any help, I would appreciate it. Mary Ann

I am looking for the gravestone of Mary Goudelock. You have pictures of her two children and husband grave markers on your site. Her husband name is Dr. Melton Goudelock. Her children names are Clorina Goudelock and Erasmus Goudelock. I know she was alive in 1870 through the census. I am guessing she would be buried in Evergreen Cemetery along with her family but I'm assuming this. Thank you in advance your site has already been a great help to me.

Ironically I just recently start taking pictures at a local cemetery to help people find ancestors grave markers. Thanks so much for the help you have given.

Do you have anything on the old Kensing Cemetery? My mom is 85 years old--her grandfather and father are buried at Rockford and I saw the pictures of the markers. Her brother and sister are buried in Taylor Town. We're taking our second "Trip to Bountiful" with my sisters in a few weeks. My mom lost contact with these relatives long ago. She graduated at Cunningham 1942.

I took a walk down memory lane this afternoon as I looked at this Site and cried. My Dad born at Rockford and grew up at Minter. We went many many times to the Rockford Church for singing and dinner on the ground. You would not believe the number of people we got into that little church. I especially enjoyed the "memory." I recalled so many things as I read the names listed and printed some of the stones. thank you for the privilege and for your work.

We could find very little info on JR Craddock except the 1850 census. The copy of his stone in Paris along with the note about John Fox Craddock was a wonderful find. Mrs Brooks mentioned is nee Mary Elizabeth Craddock who married Arnold Dexter Brooks--as mentioned on your site. The date on the stone is incorrect. JR was born 1808. He was County Clerk of Lamar 1841 to 1852. First in Lafayette, then Mt Vernon, finally Paris.

I grew up in Paris and for a number of years, while attending Graham Elementary School, lived on 4th St. N.W. My backyard fronted 5th street directly across from the water tower at the entrance to the cemetery. Can you please tell me the name of that cemetery?

My friend (who lived on 5th street, two houses south of the water tower) and I spent many hours in the cemetery and uprighted many of the tombstones that had either fallen or had been pushed over. I particularly remember two sections of the cemetery. One was at the south edge of the cemetery (directly behind my friend's home) and was a collection of wooden grave markers from the Civil War. The other was more centrally located and had a large, upright tombstone with this engraving:
"As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so shall you be.
So prepare for death and follow me."

Thanks,
Don Smith

Thank you for such a beautiful website.

This past weekend my mom, my sister and I visited the McDonald Cemetery near Howland. We had previously found an internet listing for my mom's fraternal great-great grandfather and great-great grandmother, Jesse Simmons Perkins and Mary T. Allen, who are buried there and who share one common grave stone (8 May, 1814 - 18 Jan 1895; and 11 Oct 1814 - 12 Sep, 1896, respectively). Time has eroded the chiseled inscriptions to a great degree - but we noted with pride that Jesse Simmons had a Masonic emblem marking his side of the tombstone --- we didn't know that information.

And imagine our surprise and delight that we accidentally found another set of grave stones for my mom's other great-grandfather and great-grandmother, Porter N. (stands for "Newton") Estes and his wife, Nancy L. (stands for Luriney)Estes (maiden name "Sweeton"). Porter N. was born in 1840 (exact date not known), but records and tombstone agree he died Nov. 1, 1914 at age 74 years --- both Porter and Nancy were born in Bolivar, Hardeman County, Tennessee. Nancy Luriney was born 29 December, 1836 and died 18 Apr, 1909. Nancy and Porter were married 3 Oct 1861 in Bolivar, Hardeman County, Tennessee.

I have a couple of scanned pictures of Porter Newton and Nancy Luriney and one of them with one of their young sons, we believe it to be "Charlie" (C. W. Newton ~ who's grave is nearby along side his wife, Jenny Estes)(mom says Charlie had an insurance company as an adult... the picture says "S. Lynn, Paris, Texas") from the original old thick cardboard-back type pictures they used to take way-back when (don't know what they call them).

Question: would you want me to send you the ".jpg" or ".png" scanned versions to post with their entries ??? If so, please let me know what are your requirements, etc., by return email.

Inquiry: am looking for any death/burial/obituary etc. reference to my mom's great-grandfather and great-grandmother, Henry Christopher Perkins (26 Jan, 1836 - 18 Nov, 1891, presumably died in Lamar County), and his wife, Elizabeth L. Perkins (maiden name also Perkins, no relation)(1830 - approx 1914-1920). Henry Christopher is the son of Jesse Simmons Perkins and Mary T. Allen (1 of 14 children, including most notably, Ira and Thomas Alexander Perkins). They seem to have just fallen off the face of the earth.

This was a walk down "Memory Lane". For many years I brought my mother to Lamar County at least once a year, some years we might make the trip 2 or 3 times, depending on whethter or not my uncle or aunt were going to be there. My last two trips to Lamar County were September 1999 (funeral of Aline Victoria Lenoir Peace, burial in Evergreen Cemetery)and July 2002 (funeral of Arthur Griffin Lenoir, burial in Providence Cemetery). I had to make those two trips alone because my mother passed away in 1990. I did look at some of the photos make at Springhill Cemetery and that brought back a lot of memories. My great grandparents, J.C. (Joseph Clark) Lenoir and Ella McAlister Lenoir and my great, great grandparents, Thomas E. Lenoir and Elizabeth (Betsy) McGrew Lenoir, and several other relatives are buried in Springhill Cemetery. Thanks for the memories! Elizabeth Emerson

I have not been able to get out to Texas to see her grave and I have lost most of the information she had once given me on her family. I believe her Maiden name was Holt but not sure. If it was she might be buried near them. I believe her husband was Ernest McGlasson, and I am sure she is buried near him, in Roxton.

Any help with this would be soooo wonderful. I would like to start recording (and taking photo's) of Cemeteries here in Prince Edward County VA where I live. If I can be of help HERE, please let me know.

James Clyde Turner, the Texas Ranger buried in Red Hill Cemetery was my great-grandfather.
His oldest daughter who is ALSO buried in Red Hill Cemetery apparently had her tombstone photo omitted. Her name is MARTHA ROSE TURNER McENTIRE and she IS a TURNER!
She was a school teacher for many years in the Lamar, Fannin County areas. She was my grandmother. I missed seeing her tombstone and my cousin, Beth Chism Rangel spent a lot of money repairing the vandalism to it.
I am researching the SMITH family of Phelps County, MO and Nancy Tellitha Smith Turner was one of them. It seems that we are Cherokee. Martha Turner married John W. McEntire only his last name was NOT McEntire -- it was Simpson and his father was a full-blood Lumbee from NC. We believe his mother, Myra Crocker is full-blood Cherokee and Lumbee as well but nobody knows who her father was!
I hope that someone will take a photo of my grandmother's grave in Red Hill Cemetery so I can admire what my cousin has done. I did the preliminary research in the Texas State Archives here in Austin,TX and my cousin, Beth Chism Rangel did the rest to get our great-grandfather's service in the Texas Rangers accredited.

Thank you for making this wonderful forum open to the public. If anyone else is related to the Smith family, please contact me!

Thank you so much for this site, you have done a beautifull job. My grandfather is burried here, however, you have him listed as Jack Kimball but his name was Zack Kimball 1867-1917. In case you can't read all of the headstone it says "Zack Kimball Born Sept 22, 1867 Died Oct 2, 1917 Farewell My Wife and Children All, From you a father, Christ doth call"
This means a lot to me since he died 15 years before I was born, my mother was only 8 at the time. I also believe that I have a sister, who died at birth in 1930, burried here in an unmarked grave, but I was never able to substantiate this. Thanks again for a great job.
