Thanks for the cemetary map index, and list, and records... very helpful in locating relatives. Much easier than fading memories of aging loved ones.

Ancestors or relation from the Littleton area: great grandfather Charles Melrose, grandfather Thomas Melrose, Grandfather Felts of Jesup, wife/grandmother was a Thayer, Uncle
Input, Questions, Ideas? very pleased with entire endeavor
Comments:
I met Nyles and Tony one day when visiting the gravesites of both my paternal side (Melrose) and my mother's parents and paternal relatives, Claude and Delight (Miller), John Quincy Miller and others. Earlier I had been disappointed in the condition of our families' final resting place/cemetery. That day, however, I was pleased to meet them, see the improvements and hear about their plans to do more for the betterment and upkeep of the sweet Littleton cemetery. Since then I have received emails from them about the progress on repairs, some family history and other relevant news of Littleton and its ancestors. Now this website! You are doing wonderful work, Nyles and Tony. Thank you. I plan to make a small but meaningful donation to continue their work. I hope many of you will also.
If any of you reading this are related to my family (Melroses, Millers, Felts, Thayers, Prices, Diehls) or knew any of them, I would greatly enjoy hearing from you. I was born after my grandparents (except Claude Miller) and uncles died. Stories would be welcomed about any in our family.
Sincerely,
Claudia Melrose, Madison WI, daughter of Robert R. Melrose and Merle Delight Miller, married 1939 Independence, Iowa.

My family is from Western Iowa, Moville in Woodbury County and Ida Grove. I thank you for doing this. It is like starting the puzzel and you keep finding more pictures to work on. I question is how did the settlers finds Iowa while coming from Germany?

I have been serching here in the Chicago area cemetery for family members that I did not know was burried here. Over the years the Cemetery has changed names. I like the fact that you but the map of the cemetary on line. That sure saves time.

Thanks for your time

Sue

Ancestors or relation from the Littleton area: Martin Girsch, Arnold Girsch
Comments:
My grandfather Martin C. Girsch of Waterloo, and his brother Arnold Girsch, also of Waterloo, both had "cabins" on the Wapsipincon River in Littleton in the 50's. Both are now deceased. I remember going to Littleton as a youngster. We used to walk down to the dam and fish for catfish. There was a bait shop near the dam (I think we called it "Mike's")where we would by soft drinks and candy and minnows. I recall an outdoor recreation area under the trees near the shop with rows of benches where movies were shown occasionally on summer evenings with the projector playing against a sheet hung between trees or posts. My grandfather had an aluminum boat with a motor. He used to take me and my brothers up the "Wapsi" where we would anchor next to a snag and fish for crappies. We caught lots of them. On a typical summer day we might go to an Amish farm and buy some fresh eggs and a chicken or two. Grandpa would kill the birds with a hatchet and pluck and dress them and my grandma would fry them up and serve them with mashed potatos and speckled gravy, and sweet corn, etc. I can't remember chicken tasting as good as that ever since then.
My grandfather died in 1975. I did not return to Littlton after the early 60's. My memories of Littleton are good ones. Good luck with your research. Bill Girsch

Congratulations on a very interesting & worthwhile website!

Interested, too, in adding to my information about his ancestors. I'm also a descendant of Wm Elisha PARKER of Independence - and am interested in his line.

Input, Questions, Ideas? Would like to see some picutres of the Church and old Country School.
Comments:
I was raised as Tom Jensen by the Einar Jensen family that had a farm just northwest of Littleton. I'm a member of the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church in Littleton. I currently live in Keller, Texas. Many childhood memories are still with me from Littleton. I noticed the old store in the photo's, when I was a kid that was Jacobsen Store and down the street was Jesse's Gas Station. The Little Wapsi River ran through our farm and many summer day with my twin brother Ted was spent exploring all the woods and river. It would be nice to bring the more simple times home again. Good job on the web-site. Regards Thomas F. Bass formerly Thomas Jensen.

I loved your website! The pictures of the cemetery were wonderful. Looks to be a very peaceful place. My great-great-great grandparents, James and Mary McGlaughlin are buried there. Next to seeing their stones, this was about the most wonderful thing I could see. I was looking for some pictures on Littleton, Iowa when I "stumbled" on this site. Thank you so much for all the work you have done. I live in Butler county, Ohio. Great-great-great grandfather James and son Hiram McGlaughlin went to Iowa while John Thornton McGlaughlin stayed in Amanda, Ohio. Keep up the good work! I will be checking back to see if James and Mary McGlaughlin's graves appear on the site.

Dear Nyle,
Thank you so much for sending me this info and website. I really appreciate the much needed work you and others are doing on the beautiful, serene Littleton Cemetery. I will try to donate next month. One question; does my great grandfather Charles Melrose's stone need to be straightened or adjusted in any way? I think all the other Melrose sites are in good repair. Again, thank you from the Melrose family for your care of a special place for many families from the area, the Littleton Cemetery. I will forward this to the Claude Miller (my maternal grandfather) grandchildren (my cousins) who are scattered around the country.
