The family photo that you had identified as the Brock family on your unidentified pictures page is the same one in possession of my mother-in-law. They are Reese Simpson Morgan, Tilda Morgan, Grace Morgan Cook, and the children are Bonnie Cook (oldest girl), Lester Cook, and Georgia Cook (my husband's grandmother, the baby seated in Tilda's lap). Thank you for posting this. We only had a small version of this picture.

What names are you researching? Loyd/Loyed/Lloyd Brock
Comments:
I enjoyed your site, although, not much help in my research. Loyd Brock was the son of George Fredrick Brock, and the father of David Brock. He was born about 1762 in Orange Co., N.C. and died 1810-1820, probably in Brevard Co., NC. He is my "brick wall" on my dad's side. My Dad was John Woodrow Brock (1917-1978) and the son of Berry Van Brock (Father, Tom J. Brock).

What names are you researching? Brock/Elrod, etc.
Comments:
I have a cousin that has done a lot of geneaology and we are intertwined with various sets of Brocks and others in OHio. My Dad's Mother was a Brock whose father is Nathan Brock whose father Was Reuban (or Reuben) Brock and up with the Reubans...One's wife is Rebecca Ann or Ann Elrod and one's wife is Elizabeth Riley - however, we show the records stating that their father's are Reuben 1754 and this shows that Isaac is the Father of the Reuben that married Ann Elrod of which changes my tree - also there is another discrepancy way up the line beyond that, but the one that strikes me most is which father is Reuben's that married Ann Elrod? Isaac or the other Reuben? We have a ton of Brock's in the line here of which came down to my Dad's people and we have cemeteries with the family of which are still cared for by family - they are farmers and some were in the Quaker churh... I have records to show the Fathers as the Reubens - am I reading this right that you are saying that Isaac was the Father of Reuben that married Ann Elrod? And I was trying to locate records for her - I am thinking she may have been Native American ...Thanks...We are many! My Dad's Mom had 9 children and her father is Nathan whose father was Reuben and then a Reuben - but there is an erroneous record of my grandmother's birth that says Walter was her father - but this is not true - the courthouse in the area was burned and that record is in the mormon's and is not correct nor is her birth date by one day - there may have been two - but I don't know who that Walter is...there is Walters in the family , but they are by different last names and their mother's are her sisters so not so...But we have the plot for Nathan Brock - her father and others...

Hi Sheri,
It's Bonnie(Pearson)your cousin from California. I have had some luck recently tracking down Daddys' side of the family and I am very excited about it. I only wish I had been able to reunite him with his brothers before his death.(That's what he wanted). I have been searching for quite a few years and finally someone on one of the search sites sent me a Pennsylania 1900 census chart and it opened up a spring of info. on his roots. You have done such a great job of putting together the other side of our family for us. I am hurt I did not get to spend more time with grandma and grandpa but I am thankful to God for the few great memories I have of them. I have felt alone(family-wise)for so many years-just no connections and growing up far away from any relatives but now being able to slowly piece together both sides of the family tree-it is making my heart feel warm. Thanks again- your cousin Bonnie

I just located your website again the other day. Glad I did. I found a JAYNES query from jenniferjgrimes@aol.com. She is descended from Uncle Dee. I wrote her about Family Twigs. I hope her address is still the same. I sent it today.

On what to do with your family tree before you CROAK?
Make up a book and donate it to the Jackson Co. Library for future generations, make a book for Adair Co. Ky Library, and last but not least make a book to be passed down in your family anyway, SOMEONE at SOMETIME will be interested in it.
I made booklets for my kids about 13 or so years ago. The one who showed the most interest in it, in fact loved it, (you guessed it} is 42, has no children, never wants children, and nearly too old to have them anyway.

I got tickled at your remarks about Croaking. Same here, I am 62, I want quilts for my grandkids (material in closet for three of them, need one more. I want to knit dishcloths for them for their hope chest, want to make a will as to which grandchild gets what, make family tree books for grandchildren, baby afghans for them, and a large afghan for each of the four. Too much to do to CROAK. Good talking to you again, cuz.

My gg gf is Wm. Brock (1792-1863), Coweta Co., GA.
It has long been believed he was son Reuben (1754-1842),
but DNA may be calling this into question. My grandfather (Francis Marion Brock (1860-1942)and father (Wm.Arthur Brock) had some connections in NE Alabama, especially Dekalb Co., but I don't know who, except possibly Lois Maurine Brock, also from NW Ga., who md. Berry T. Rucks on Sand Mountain, son of Elisha Parks Rucks and Margaret Mary Frances Elrod. I know he knew this family well. Added to the confusion, my ggf, James Daniel Brock (1830-1864) had a amesake in Dekalb Co., AL, slightly younger. A mystery.

Have you found any proof that Blassingame Brock and Terry Wayne were Henry's sons, or based on location? We located the will of Henry's father in SC and they contain no names such as Perry Green, Terry Wayne, nor Blassingame. We believe Terry Wayne and Blassingame were the sons of James Brock, not Henry.

Lots of circumstantial evidence. James Brock, Sr. was in NC c 1788 when son James, Jr. was born and in SC c 1789 when son Perry Green born and still in SC when daughter Elizabeth was born in 1793.

By 1808, Jam4s Brock had moved to Barren Co., Ky where son Perry Green married in 1808 and daughter Elizabeth in 1809 - each not of age and their father James's written permission required. 1810 Barren Co., KY census remaining at home with James were 2 sons of age groups that agree with those of Blassingame and Terry Wayne.

Perry Green had already gone to Hopkins Co. where the others soon joined him. There, in 1812, brother James, Jr. married Laodocia Moore.

By 1816 (tax records) James, Sr., Perry Green and Elizabeth and husband had moved to Howard Co., MO Territory (brother James remained in Hopkins Co., KY.) On that same tax list was John McDowell. The next year, 1817, Blassingame Brock married John McDowell's daughter. We have yet to find when and where in MO, but Terry Wayne Brock later married another of McDowell's daughters. As marriages then did not require a license, it was up to the minister to records - lots are missing.

The Brock boys moved with the McDowell in-laws to McMinn Co., TN by 1830.

Perry Green moved westward and became an original settler of what is now Jackson Co., MO. By 1824 his brother James, Jr. had come from KY and obtained the adjoining land. James, Jr. and Perry Green went to what is now Platte Co. in 1833 to avoid the Mormon War which had broken out around them. In 1844 they left Platte Co., Perry Green moving to near some of his children in Cass Co., MO, while Jame,Jr. and family moving to new Jasper Co. with his son-in-law who had obtained a land patent. There James., Jr. soon died. James, Jr.'s sons included James, Perry Green and Terry Wayne.

James, Jr's son, James W., became a physician in Jasper Co., MO. According to an old White Co., TN, newspaper interview with grandchildren of Blassingame Brock, their brother James went to Jasper Co. to study medicine with cousin James W. Brock, and stated James W.'s father James and their grandfather Blassingame were brothers.

Meanwhile my Perry Green's daughter Susan Brock had married Solomon Reed and moved to Vernon Co., MO. One of their daughters was Margaret Ann. Margaret Ann Reed married Blassingame "B.G" Brock, son of Terry Wayne, and moved with him back to McMinn Co., TN.

After the Civil War, Margaret Reed Brock's now widowed mother moved the family to Collin Co. along with sister Fatima Brock Reed (husbands were cousins) while other siblings headed back toward MO, with some stopping in Benton Co. AR.About 1867, Susan Brock Reed returned to her old home in Vernon Co., MO. By 1870, MargaretReed and "B.G." Brock moved from McMinn Co. to Benton Co., AR, and lived adjacent to her cousin Margaret Ann (Reed) Chesney, daughter of Fatima Brock Reed.

B. G. and Margaret later left Benton Co., AR and went to Wise Co., TX, where they obtained from a man's heirs land near Forestburg in adjoining Montague Co. There B. G. died c 1874.

After B. G.'s death, his wife Margaret went first to Labette Co., KS, and then to what is now Mayes Co., OK where her uncle William C. P. Brock and a number of his children had moved from Benton Co., AR.

As I stated, there is no proof we know of either way to the parentage of Blassingame and Terry Wayne, but the circumstantial evidence and naming of children seem to place them closer to being the children of James than Henry.

All we can suggest is we keep working until we prove what is the correct answer. Perhaps one day that proof will appear.

Comments:
Hi Sheri, you've done so much work on this genealogy and have made it so easy for others. My grandfather, Richard Jeffery, immigrated from England, landed in Canada and lived for awhile with his brother Thomas in Indiana (I think) and Richards wife, Elizabeth Bohall came from Indiana, so thats why I checked into your web page. Richard and Thomas had a 3rd brother, Will, who moved to Austrailia.
I haven't done a lot of searching on this side of my family but have some information and have cousins who have more.
Thanks, La Vona

Hi Sheri, You must be Pauline's daughter. I just skimmed through your website and am looking forward to going through more slowly when I have more time. I have already learned some things that I did not know. Warner Brock's daughter has also done a lot of research of the Brock and Morgan families. If you like I can get her email address for you. Daddy and I went to Benton, Tn a few weeks ago for a Brock reunion, the first in many years. I wish that you could have been there. I met cousins that I had never met. I ran out of room to write but if you would like to email me I can tell you a little more about where my great grandparents(Brock) are buried. Donna Smith Lusk, daughter of Irene and Horace Smith

Hi Sheri, I am Tom Alexander and Thomas King Alexander is my 3rd g-grandfather by his second wife Amanda Lewis. His first wife Jane Sylvester died in 1838 and he married my ggg-grandmother Amanda Lewis in 1840. My family has for the most part been in Washington Co. Indiana since Thomas Alexander came to Indiana in about 1816. I have his Rev.War pension appl. in a file if you are interested in putting it on your site. Thomas King Alexander was born in 1811 in Ky. and his brother James M.Alexander was born in Tn. in 1801. They are brothers to your John born in Ky in 1803. John Alexander was married 2 times. He was married in Washington Co. Indiana to Judah Northern in about 1828? She must have died. They may have had 3 children name George, Elijah and Lucinda. John H Alexander's second wife was named Frances Lucas. James M and Thomas King Alexander are buried at Big Spring Church Cem. in about 7 miles south of Salem Indiana. James was born in 1801 and died in 1873 and Thomas King Alexander was born in 1811 and died in 1885. A lot of James's decendants live in Illinois and Kansas. I have been in contact with some of his family for several years. Here is my line from Thomas and Sally King Alexander.

Thomas Alexander born in Ireland in 1752 d. 1849 in Jackson Co. Indiana. According to one of the decendants of James, Thomas was born in Dublin Ireland. He came to America in 1772 and settled in Lancaster and Cumberland Cos. in Pa. then to Sullivan Co Tn. then to Knox Co Ky where he lived on Little Richland Creek. His sister Jane also lived in Knox Co Ky. She was married to Robert McWhorter of Bucks Co Pa. They came to Indiana in 1828. Robert Mcwhorter was also a vet. of the Rev. War. I have a copy of his pens. appl. and it was witnessed by Thomas, William, and James M. Alexander in 1833. I believe the William that witnessed RobertMcwhorters pens appl was Thomas and Jane Alexander's brother. They also had a brother named George and possibly a brother named John.
Sally King was born in NC about 1760-70. and died in Washington Co. Indiana in 1829.
Thomas King Alexander b 1811 in Ky probably Knox Co. and died August 11, 1885 in Washington Co. Indiana. His wife Amanda Lewis was born in Ky in 1812 and she died in Washington Co. Ind. Jan 10,1887. They only had 2 children to live to be adults. John Henry Alexander my gg-grandfather was born in 1845 and died in 1928. His wife was Eliza Jane Voyles and she was born in 1850 and died in 1936. John and Eliza Jane had 13 children and 11 of them had children. my g-grandfather is their second son Robert Preston Alexander b. 1869 and died in 1938. His oldest son is my grandfather Emerson Alexander who was born in 1893 and died in 1990. My father was John Alexander born in 1931 and he drown in a car at Salem, Indiana in 1968. I would sure love to come and meet with some of the Alexander's in Jackson Co. I live about an hrs drive from Seymour. I live in Greenville Indiana which is in Floyd Co. about 2 miles from the Washington Co. Line. I grew up in Borden about 13 miles east of Salem. I have a whole lot of information on our family if you are interested. Also there is a lady in Chicago that is part of James M.Alexander's family who states that John H.Alexander born in 1803 died in 1886 and is buried at Jefferson Barracks Mo. He must have been in the Civil War. Hope to hear from you soon God bless you. Tom Alexander, Greenville Indiana
