Were you born in Washington Co? what area? Aunt born in Donora
Favorite place in Washington County? Never been there
Comments:
I'm researching the Stino name. My father & his parents came from Austria in 1902/1903. They were in Boswell, in 1910, on census. Aunt Mary T. Stino, was born in Donora, Washington County to Mary & Joseph Stino. The name may have changed spelling, as I can't find alot with the Stino name. They settled in Warren Co, PA, in 1919, and that's where my father had our family. Any suggestions on where to find information on my Stino family from that date?

I have in my possession a copy of the deed showing how my families current property was once owned or held by VA certificate dated 1784, & 1785 and enrolled in 1788. The copy is from 1911. Names on certificate: James Innis, William Parkinson, Wm. Woods,& John Baldwin. I have recently started the process to become a member of the D.A.R. & after more research have found Benjamin Parkinson to be my 4th Great Grandfather, thus my linage on both sides fought in the American Revolution. Respectfully, LL

ILOOKED THROUGH YOU SIGHT AND APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH. ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS WHAT DAY MY GRANDMOTHER, EMMA PEARSON PRITCHARD'S BIRTHDAY AND MY GRANDPAP THOMAS EVAN PRITCHARD'S DATE OF BIRTH, SO I CAN PUT A FLOWER ON THEIR GRAVE, SO THEY KNOW THEY ARE LONG GONE, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN BY AN AGING GRANDDAUGHTER WHO IS TRYING TO FIND SOME INFO AND PASS IT ON TO MY 2 GRANDDAUGHTERS. I KNOW THE YEAR ONLY OF BOTH THEIR BIRTHS,(THOMAS-1876, EMMA 1882,) AND KNOW THE DATES OF BOTH DEATHS, THOMAS, APRIL 20, 1935, AND MY GRANDMA DIED MAY 19, 1922. IT IS A SHAME THE AMOUNT OF MONEY SOME SIGHTS WANT TO JUST SEE THE DATE, NOT TO PRINT ANYTHING, OR TO HAVE A COPY OF ANYTHING THAT I ONLY WANT TO WRITE DOWN. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, AND FOR YOUR SIGHT, I WILL BE BACK TO KEEP CHECKING TO SEE IF I CAN FIND MORE INFO. LUANN MCGILL

Great site, thank-you.
I was born in Washington (1949) and lived in Tylerdale on the corner of Tyler and Donnan Aves., but moved to Virginia at age 4. Spent a lot of time visiting, especially during summer vacations. Have a spot in my heart for Little Washington. Material on web-site brings back a lot of memories.
My (step) grandfather owned H.C. Lindley Insulation and I helped him insulate many homes on summer vacations.
My dad, who worked for Jessop steel before injuring his back, was big into model trains and was involved with a club that had a train layout set up in the old Wash H.S. The old school was torn down and is now the site of the Central Fire Station. He also set up train displays in the theatre lobbies at Christmas time.
My paternal grandfather was a B & O conductor, who died at a very young age. I guess that precipitated my dad getting into model railroading.
Enough rambling.
Thanks again

My great-grandparents settled in McDonald at the end of the 19th century. Their names were Pierre Joseph ( Peter) Descutner and Catherine Zandenborg Descutner. Their son, Efren, was my grandfather. He and his brothers had a tea business in McDonald at the beginning of the 20th Century. My grandmother, Valerie Vanaerschott, immigrated from Belgium in the early 1900's. She married Efren and they had 9 children. They moved to Akron, Ohio in about 1924. I love finding any info I can about their time in Mcdonald. I know that Efren helped to build the "French church" and as an active part of the community.

I see you've added a lot. Peter McCullough was my ancestor. He and his wife Mary Jane Brown lived in Monongahela where he was a shoemaker. Mary Jane's sister was Martha McClay. Their mother was Sarah Adams whose cousins John and George Adams lived in Washington Co. The James McCullough family of Mon. City might be familiar to some. His daughter Anna was a teacher there for many years.

I am interested in learning more about the Daisytown area. I have never visited but would like to track down the grave of my 1st Great-Grandfather, Jnos dm of John Adams who immigrated circa 1904 from the Austria-Hungarian Empire (most probable being Hungary). He, a brother (only one I know of) and brother-in-law (Jnos Pollak or Pollock) worked in the coal mines. He died circa 1921 after which his wife and eight children migrated to Terre Haute, Indiana

I have been looking for info on one of my Graet Aunts who supposedly was known as "The Piemaker of Little Washington". Have never been able to find her or her family and have searched numerous variations of her married name (Reichner/Reiner/Richner). Any pointers or places to research would be very helpful. Here is all I've been able to find:
Descendants of Beulah M Wallace

1 Beulah M Wallace b: May 1892 Smiths Ferry, Beaver, PA d: Little Washington, PA
. +??? Reihner d: Little Washington, PA
........ 2 Alvin Richner b: Little Washington, PA
........ 2 Teresa Richner b: Little Washington, PA

I have tried Census, subcribe to PAWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com, and submitted many queries. Have never been able to find info on marriage, death or birth of children or even if children's names are acurate.

Great sites you put together Judith! It will take me a while to go through everything but what I did look at was very good.
We live closer now. We moved last May from Warrren, OH. I'm in Niles, OH just off Robbins Ave. We are just around the corner almost now from you!
We should get together and share our memories in person. E-mail me and we can make plans. Thanks for putting my site in your search engine. Look forward to reading more Washington County stuff!
Are you the one that lived near or on "goat hill"? I went to Hayes Ave. Grade School for 4th, 5th and 6th grade and then went to Trinity in 7th to 10th grades. We then moved to Claysville and I finished at McGuffey.
Hope to hear from you!

Favorite place in Washington County? The old "S" bridge, covered bridges, the Mon River, exploring the "back roads" for ruins of old log cabins&q
Comments:
Washington County has many "natural" beauties to explore. I used to enjoy just driving around the back roads enjoying the rustic scenery, the rolling hills and farmlands. Sometimes I'd come across an old cemetery (off the beaten path)with the ruins of an old log cabin nearby. The headstones were nothing but slabs of rock, roughly chilseled and barely readable. I would often wonder who these people were, how they had died, what kind of lives they had lived. Another oft visited spot was Dutch Fork where one could view the Miller family cemetery who had been killed by the Indians. Most of my "favorite" spots were not tourists attractions, but places I found by myelf...in search of history.

Hiya! Well, I finally did it! Here is my "Little Washington"-Washington PA website where I can share thousands of newspaper items. Victoria Hospodar Valentine has agreed to allow me to place her McDonald area newspapers on this site also. My second website is at http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~florian/ and is "Life in Washington Co. PA" where I hope we can share stories and memories about the many families who've lived in the county. If you'd like to submit to either website, drop me a note!

I hope you'll enjoy looking through my websites. I'm still fixing some links but things should be close to 100% by the end of December. Sign the Guestbook and let me hear what else you'd like to see!
