my mother ,born Lily Royce West to Dora Cunningham and Charles West on 9/9/1900 in Wise,Va.Dora was from CC(around Tazwell),Charles West disappeared into oblivion.A few years later my grandmother married a James Hodge/s.He raised my Mom.She always wondered about her birth father and so do I.I have searched every site I could find over the last few yearsI`m pushing 80 and would love to find out anything, except for the rumors that flew through the family, that my Mom`s uncle threw old Charles off Cumberland Gap OR buried him in the lumber place uncle owned(I doubt that too) Anyway, thanks for reading this, Norma Hyberger -----------------------nannyhyb@yahoo.com

According to my great grand-father's civil war records , he (Isom Stansifer) was stationed for some time at Cumberland Gap. Then he was listed as " sick, in hospital-Tazewell, Tn." in 1864 for aprox. 10 months.
I was curious about the Hospital, any information-photos-records of patients , or anything ? I guess any information like that is long-gone and too much to hope for.
Isom was with Company L , 3rd Indiana Cavalry. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe Stansifer

My Claiborne County lines include these and related surnames: Walker, Davis, Houston, Poor/e, England, Drummond.

Walkers are traced back through Rev. John Davis Walker (Margaret Ann Houston), Jacob Shuff Walker (Martha Patsy Davis) , Edward Walker, Jr. (Mahala Tussey) and Edward Walker, Sr. (Jane Horne)

Davis line is traced back through Martha (Patsy) Davis Walker, and Eli Davis (Martha Baker).

Houstons are traced through Margaret Ann Houston, William Jasper Houston (Margaret Ann Fox) who was with Co. C, 29th Tenn. and killed 23 Nov. 1863 Battle of Missioary Ridge, James R. Houston ( Martha Buchanan). William Jasper Houston, I believe, was with the 48th Virginia Conf. Inf. first. This Houston line is out of Smyth and Washington Co., Virginia. and moved to Claiborne Co. ca. 1855-60. Would like to find where these Houstons are buried. Census records indicate they were living around Lone Mountain 1860-80.

Poore line is traced through Raymond Foster Poore, William Thurman Poore, Calvin Newton Poore, Mason Greenleaf Poore, and Jesse Poore.

The England line ties in with the Drummond line through Sibby England, Alexander England, and Wesley M. England.

The Drummonds tie in with this Poore line, namely Catherine Isabelle Drummonds and William Anderson Drummonds, Stephen Drummonds, and William Drummonds.

Wm Partin spelling in 1850 US census
Mahaley Parton spelling in 1860 US census
Mahala Parton spelling in 1870 US census
Claiborne Parton spelling in 1880 US census
Hoping find some info when I visit??

If it is proven that they did live near the Cudjio Cave then I would like to know the names of the nearby Cemeteries so I may find where Comfort Hail Carmak was burried in 1863-64
