Like so many others I grew up at just the right time to enjoy great little local music venues like the Hangout, Sound Museum, and Wild Goose. What a great time in the lifeline of music. I have so many memories both fond and insane that took place at these places, and I loved every minute of it. On top of the music there was the visions brought about through blacklights and dayglo, overhead projectors with oil and colored water, the smells via incense and patchouli oil, and even touch was included aswe bumped into each other while we danced or high fived at the end of the dance lines, and oh, one big touch thing was a tall speaker column falling from the corner of the stage platform that rang my bell. The Wild Goose gave me a free "lifetime" pass, ostensibly trying to keep me from suing them I'm sure. As my luck would have it, they closed down about three weeks later. Anyway, the Stanley brothers were a huge part of that music scene, and after hearing their newest album a couple days ago, there is still some Stanley music shaping someone's life out there. Thank you Bob and Jim for good times and good music. And now I'm ready for you to, "Take Me Back".

I have so many memories of the Bryds when they played in the 1960's in Libertyville. I think the place was call either the Shady Banana (maybe that was in Deerfield)...or it was called the Bat Attic. Anyway it was in the American Legion Hall. Me and my girlfriends were "groupies" and had crushes on most of the band. It's a good flash back to see the old pics.

Bill Kirchmeyer (my next door neighbor) gave me a 45 of "Mister You're A Better Man Than I" It hooked me into this genre. I remember seeing Leaves of Autumn at a dance at the YMCA, and Hot Mama Silver (with Bill Brobowski) at Night Gallery. I miss the old Waukegan days, but the music is what keeps the memories on going. Would love to buy your cd... (couldn't get it off the Swiss site).

went to many dances with the Empires, Bryds, Outspoken Blues, X-Men. Favorites were at hangout (YMCA) and the Waukegan beach...(I was a lifeguard there). Once had a copy of Not Right Now given to me by Bill Kirchmeyer's brother (John). Sadly got talked out of it by my college roomate 3-4 years later. Looked for this record many times at record shows/shops across the country and now I know why I didn't connect, it being so rare.
If anyone knows John Kirchmeyer's email , I would appreciate it.
Wish I knew about this get-together 'happening'. Maybe I'll be on your mailing list next time ?

What a thrill to finds The Bryds on the internet. I always wanted to tell you guys my strongest teen memories are dancing and meeting girls (sweaty as we were) under the influence of The Bryds at the Pink Panther. Nobody else played "Baby Can I Take you Home, Better Man Than I, early Animals & Them, Bury My Body, Pretty Flamingo," you guys were the best ever. I can't remember if it was the summer of '66 or '67, probably both. I do remember Dave when he appeared one Saturday night at the Pink Panther will his hair all cut off. I think he had visited the draft board. Wasn't he going to Wright Jr. College? Then there was the time when WLS pitched all week long an upcoming performance by The Byrds at Carmel High School I think it was. I was and still and a big Byrds fan & collector. I headed all the way out there from Skokie to discover not Mr. Tambourine Man but my beloved local Bryds. I always felt Bob was a wise guy of sorts, maybe you fooled WLS for the great publicity to get folks out to see The Bryds. It worked. Then of course when the guys did the three man roll over on the stage floor. I don't know what you'd call the thing, (Note: It was the "PODO") just that we did the same thing at football practice.
A few years ago while feeling nostalgic I went to the old Legion Hall in Deerfield (Pink Panther) which had become a floral shop. I of course went inside to just relive the tingles and feelings of my teenage hot summer Saturday nights at the Pink Panther with The Bryds. It's all there. What intense memories. You guys made it for me. Thank you.
