Our previous Kaufman County papges were excellent with an abundance of useful information, pictures, stories and histories. I do not know what happened but it should not take a year to move the website. Many, many people contributed to the old site and now all that information may be lost.

Someone who has the files or access to the files needs to do something. Perhaps it should be given to one of the high schools in Kaufman to manage as it would give the students something to do and also provide them with the history of the county. I can not believe all is lost.

What happened to the site?? Many things are missing. Old photos of the Rosser Lock #7, Trinidad pilings, Texas Midland Railroad Bridge, etc, etc... When going to the links I get the message, "The requested URL /~txgenweb/landmarks/index.htm was not found on this server." I sure hope all the photos and things were not lost.

Also, missing are the pictures of the saloon in Scurry.

I remember Lenie Mae, Porter W. and Maude and helen and Nettie. Porter had remarried after Lenie died in 1964 to Bertha I believe...weird woman. I believe Wesley is the only living boy who resides in Lawton Oklahoma. Learned that to this family that blood relations does not matter...they loved me and my brother like we were one of their own. My grandfather was Jesse Alexander Graves. He had the drug store that was previously owned by his older brother John Calvin Graves whom passed away 1912. I still have rent reciepts where he rented the drug store from John Calvin's widow. My father was Richard Johnson Graves. There is a picture of the drug store in one of your Square Photos with the name John Calvin Graves from 1909. Many old timers that I spoke with over the years refered to my grandfather as Doc Graves as he compounded prescriptions that fixed what ailed them..........

I just wanted to comment that my cousin 30 years ago found parts of a family bible that was left behind in a house which was purchased by a company which was going to destroy it. It had family history of a "Stanfield family" one of which was listed a "Tennessee Stanfield" who was married to a A.A. Bobbitt, it then stated "murdered 27 Feb. 1909." I then started to do some research, and came across this site and have been looking up all kinds of interesting information. I am now creating a tree for this family in hopes that I can send them copies of the family bible history that my cousin found in a old house over 30 years ago.

Garrett came back from the Civil War(discharged due to illness)....I think all three of his children are buried here, but the old oak-tree that was his headstone was taken down many years ago(prior to the family showing me where it was)...I hope we can at least get a marker for his civil war service someday? :(
I would appreciate anyone's recomendations...and let me know without burial records what we can do about my g-g gandfather Charles D. Garrett. I found on the Gen site...a photo of him from 1862(not very good as you can image).but wow..how many photos do we find of a relative in 1862...It was submitted by someone named Mayhew in Terrell....they never responded about where they found such a photo?

I was searching for the McIntyre family, and noticed how well put together you all have put this website. This has everything if your doing any kind of research for someone or any kind of searchable information. I did find out what I was looking for. I wish other counties around the United States would put together everything available as you have done.

Again, this is the best I have ever found. Thank you.

I am working to compile a complete muster roll and status for the 6th TX CAV RGT, CSA. This County helps greatly to resolve the problems associated with the official rolls which have many duplications. I have added a lot of data and have unit history in word and the muster roll in Excel which allows me to view the whole 6th roll in alpha format as well as company and to provide a rank Structure.

I am researching John McDOUGALD, Sr., b. About 1785, SCOTLAND, d. Kaufman Co,., Texas, and his wife, Catherine BLACK, b. N. C., d. ?. John McDOUGALD, Sr. migrated to Cumberland Co., North Carolina/Gadsden Co., Florida/Kaufman Co., Texas. His three sons, Archibald Black, Hugh, and John McDOUGALD, Jr., and one daughter, Flora McDOUGALD also migrated with John Sr. to Kaufman Co., Texas. I found burial places and photo's that were very helpful in closing some dates, names, etc.

Suggestions and how you can help I have two names for the Ola 1929 school picture
Please share your successes with using this site I love it, but am having trouble e-mailing
Comments:
I have been viewing various areas of this site for about two weeks. My maiden name was LaRoe. My parents were from Kaufman County.

In the 1929 Ola school picture the boy in the first row of children standing from the bottom, second from the left, white shirt brownish looking jacket is my father Jack Edward LaRoe. In the third row from the bottom, seated slightly to the right of middle; the little girl with the page boy hair-cut, and the white blouse is my Aunt, Etta Louise LaRoe. They were the children of James Edward LaRoe, and Alma Priddy LaRoe. They were the grandchildren of Richard Henry LaRoe, and Tennessee Little LaRoe.

I am still finding more, and more iformation about my family on your website. It is great.

My mother was Opal Vick LaRoe. Her mother's family name was Beavers. They had a big reunion in Terrell. I am wondering if they still have a reunion.

I hope to hear from some of my relatives.

I am looking for anyone related to the Dunn/Ayres Family. My Grandmother, Lola Dunn, passed away last week 3-24-06 and was laid to rest 3-29-06 at College Mound Cemetery. No one in the family told me therefore I didn't know about the funeral. I LOVED my Grandmother with all that is in me and I will miss her dearly. I am interested in finding other family members that I do not know. If you are related please email me at ddks@sbcglobal.net
I LOVE YOU NANI AND I WILL CARRY YOU IN MY HEART ALWAYS!!!!
