Hello everyone I'm new at this so please help me. I have little info on my family I just know that my grandpas name is John Henry McCrary and his dad my great grandpas name is John McCrary as well. My grandpa grew up in Kidder Missouri and served in the navy in world war II. All I know about my family is we have a family cemetary south of Gallatin Missouri a few miles. And we were the first to settle in the Sheridan township also known as Daviess county. I want to learn more about my family and where we came from. Look me up on facebook if you would like I'm sure we are all family in some way or another. Thank you!

Hello, Long Lost Kin. My family is descended from Matthew Sr. in Warren County. I played many a day in the fields and pine thickets of the old home place in Warrenton. The house there (regretfully no longer standing# is where my mother and several generations of Matthew's descendants before her were raised. Working backwards from my little grandsons to Matthew goes like this: Arik & Kalem Davey < James Justin Davey < Me < Carolyn Abbott Mimbs Durden < Robert Ezra Abbott < Annie Frances Miller Abbott < Frances McCrary Miller < Ezra McCrary < Matthew McCrary. Matthew of course, was the son of John and brother of your ancestor, Bartley.
My mother told me wonderful stories told to her by her beloved Granny #Annie Frances# about the family line. Annie Frances was a beautiful woman. I have an original portrait of her taken when she won a local beauty contest in 1851 #at 16). Her mother died of Typhoid when Annie Frances was only 9 days old and she was raised on the home place by her grandfather Ezra and two "spinster" aunts, Sally and Sue. I visited Annie Frances' parents' graves in tiny Powelton, Georgia for the first time just yesterday. Her parents, Robert Early Miller and Frances McCrary Miller are buried there along with sister Mittie and brother Andrew. There appear to be other nearby graves of family members but the stones are long-since fallen. It was a very special feeling to be there in that beautiful place, mossy overhangs from the giant old oaks, church abandoned but still standing in the peaceful evening light. I felt close to them...I talked to them to let them know that more than a hundred years later they live on...through me, my son, my grandsons...and others... It was very poignant.
I was happy to see your post and view another line through which Grandfather John lives on. :-) Beth Sipper, Louisville, Georgia.

I am looking for info on my great great grandfather. John W. McCrary. Does anyone have more info? I have this tantalizing piece:

"The records show that one John W. McCrary was appointed 2nd Lierutenant of Company A, 57th Regiments Alabama Infantry G.S.A. 13 April 1863, and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant 9 October 1863. The Company master roll for September and October, 1863, last on file, shows him absent "with leave". He was wounded and captured in the battle of Peachtree Creek, Georgia, 20 July 1864, and admitted to Department of Cumb, Vining Station, Georgia Hospital, and died there 30 July 1864 of gunshot wounds. Date of admission to the hospital is shown as 25 and 26 July 1864." This is a letter from the U. S. Adjuntant General to the State Department of Archives and History in Montgomery, dated 20 January 1939.

The above statement is offical. Under the laws of Alabama a record furnished by the department of Archives and History and signed by the Director, must be accepted as an offical document.
Mary Theresa McCrary (Molly) wife of Rev. John M. Barcus born September 15, 1861 in Pike County Alabama. She was 2 years old when her father went to war as a 2nd Lietuenant in Albama Infantry. Her father came home on leave in 1863 when she was 2 years and several months old.

Molly was almost 3 years old whenhe died in a Yankee hosptial from gunshot wounds received in the Battle of Peachtree Creek Georgia.

Great site!

I am a McCrary located in Florida, have sisters and brothers, total of ten, that are located around this great state. I have one son that makes me proud each day and a new grand son that one day will want to know of this web site.

My Grand Father Charles Hurbie McCrary, lived in Birmingham Alabama. Three brothers served during the sixties in United States Marine Corps in Viet Nam.

I know we had relatves in N.Carolina and Missouri.

If you would like to know more please contact me.

Also how about a Family tree so that we can see where all of us
came from and maybe we can figure where we are headed, seems that some of us have that issue, just speaking in general terms of course.

Good night, McCrarys

William Bean (1927), wife Naomi and son William (1957) settled on the South Fork of Duncan's Creek in Laurens Co. SC, in 1767, receiving 250 acres in his first grant. He arrived from Ireland but is supposedly from Croy, Inverness. I saw no Bean stones at the church, did see your family though. Beans sold out and went west before they died. It would be interesting to do a web site just of that area and its descendents. There is a new SC Battlefield Park (Musgrove Mills) in Clinton, with a ranger who was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Looking for relatives of Robert McCrary - born unknown. Born in England or Scotland, and emigrated to American Colonies circa 1670. Also looking for relatives of Roger Crary born 1650/51 in England, emigrated to Ireland, then to the West New Jersey about 1681 as a Quaker. There is an old family tradition that these two are brothers, and had a brother named Robert who did not drop the Mc (Mac) from his name, came to the Americal colonies with Peter, about 1663, and migrated south along the coast. Robert became the "father" of many of the McCrary families in the Southeastern US. Have you ever heard any part of this story?

Thanks for sharing your McCrary family history. Our line of McCrary's descend from Boyd McCrary (North Carolina), son of an Irish immigrant. Children of Boyd migrated into Missouri during the 1800's. One of them, John McCrary, eventually settled in Gentry County. He is our direct ancestor.

I am not a McCrary, but came across your "McCrary Messages" on the internet.
Can you tell me anything about JOHN W. McCRARY of Jackson County, FL?
I am researching a land grant document issued to him on December 1, 1857, for 39.87 acres of land by President James Buchanan at the federal Land Office in Tallahassee.
These land grants were often issued as a reward for meritorious military service. The timing of this grant might coincide with service in the war with Mexico which resulted in the U.S. taking the land block that includes Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
I would be particularly interested in his military service dates, did he fight for the Confederacy in the Civil War, etc.
Any light you could shed would be appreciated!

Have enjoyed browsing the McCrary offerings and appreciate all the work you have done - any descendants of Matthew McCrary who died 1816 in Warren Co. GA [son of John and Jane [Greer] McCrary may be interested to learn that a Rev. War Memorial headstone for him was placed in the old McCrary cemetery last spring through the efforts of Dorinda Clark of Thomson GA and myself. The marker reads as follows: Matthew McCrary, Lt. SC Militia, d. 1816. The cemetery is on land that Matthew purchased from Hezikiah Linsicom when he first settled in GA. The old homeplace eventually was acquired by Matthew's son Ezra from whom Dorinda Clark descends. We had to furnish documentation as to Matthew's Rev. War service and proof that we knew where he was buried and that there was no headstone for him. The monument is polished granite and the lettering is hand cut. The VA even paid the shipping fee to GA. Dorinda's husband and brother set the stone in place. It is a good feeling to know that we were able to honor one of our own from a time when our country was brand new.

Yes, there are other McCrarys who love to play guitars. My dad is Douglas Mack Authur McCrary, born August 5, 1942. He is the baby son of Bob and Fannie (Griggs) McCrary. Bob and Fannie had 6 other children,

Bob McCrary Jr,
J.R. McCrary,
Rosie Lee (McCrary)(Cash) McBride,
Mary Lou (McCrary) Smart,
Mildred (McCrary)(???) Guffey,
Ginnie (McCrary) Kay.

My dad was raised in the Bridgeport and Stevenson Alabama area as a child. But now and for many years have lived on Sand Mountain in Jackson County Alabama. My Father and Mother; Chloe (Dobbs) McCrary has 4 living children. Each of us also love to play music as well. Their children are as follows;

Chlorene (McCrary) Brown (plays bass guitar),
Douglas Mack Authur McCrary Jr. (plays lead guitar),
Pam (McCrary) Smith (plays drums),
Cindy (McCrary) Smith (plays tamborine).

Music comes from the heart or it isn't worth listening to.
We will have to keep the McCrary Music going, and share it with those we can.

Amazing! I have my McCrary family history traced back to Hugh McCrary who was born in the Isle of McGhee in Ireland in 1720. He had a brother named John, but I think this was a different John than who is traced here. He also had a brother named Daniel. I never realized there were so many McCrary's all across this country. Most of my family still live in North Carolina. Interesting site. Thanks!

Hello fello members of the McCrary family tree . I am 25 and know nothing of my families heritage. I hope that one day I will find out more so that I may pass it on to my children who are still yet to arrive and so on. My fathers name is Buddy Leroy McCrary and mother Anne Marie Caruana. We are originally from Tennessee although I was born and now reside in Texas. My grand father I never met but his name was Luke McCrary and grand mother Nelly McCrary/Puckett. My father was born in Lebanon,Tenn. in 1940 and so where his sister and two brothers as follows Joyce , David , and John Elwood. If you have any information particularly leading to the civil war (maybe even a rooster) or even as far back as when the McCrary family migrated to the U.S. and where from (ships logs). It would be highly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,
Stanley Richard McCrary

I have boxes of documents on the McCrary family that I discovered during my research and I want to give them away to anyone interested only for the price of shipping. If you do, have the persons contact me before July 11, as I shall be on vacation after that date for 3 weeks. Thanks. Mary

While searching the web for McCrary I came across your very nice site. I am wondering if there is a connection between the McCrary's of Northwest Florida and your line.
My line is as follows:

Urbane Andrew McCrary b.1815 in Kentucky d.1886 in Chipley Fl. Married Rebecca Williams in 1834.

Andrew Franklin McCrary (son of Urbane and Rebecca) b.1839 in Jackson County Fl. d.1916 Jackson County FL. Married Nancy S Vickers in 1858.

Andrew Franklin McCrary (son of Andrew and Nancy) b.1868 in Jackson County Fl. d.1921 Jackson County Fl. Married Anna Jane Williams in 1906.

My father Frank McCrary (son of Andrew and Anna) b.1907 in Jackson County Fl. d.1996 in Panama City Fl. Married Norma Jean Fountain in 1926.

I believe the father of Urbane Andrew McCrary was a
James McCrary married to Mary ??. I have no other information on this James McCrary.

I would like to hear from anyone who can make a connection to the McCrary's of Northwest Florida.

Hi:
I served on the USS Black DD666 from 5/21/43 until 12/45. I can't seem to place your father or locate him amongst the various lists that I have. I would like to add his name and address to my lists if you will permit it. What division was your father in? That may help me to place him. It's been a lot of years; however, I do feel a sense of recognition. Respectfully, Calvin "Joe" Dooley.

My paternal grandmother was a McCrary. Her daddy was Joseph McCrary and was born in Tennessee, just after end of Civil War, not sure what county. He is buried at French Broad Chrurch of the Brethern in Dandridge, TN. He had a brother named Jack who oversaw the building of Swann Dormatory at Carson Newman College. Joseph had asthma and had to quit construction work and became a barber. He died about 1910 or so.
I will find out what I can from my daddy and post more later.

I loved the site. I found out some new information on our part of the McCrary clan (Thomas McCrary, Sr. from Duncan's Creek, Laurens County, SC). Although, most of my branch is in Texas these days. I sent you a much more detailed e-mail earlier. Would love to hear from you soon! Thanks for all the hard work.

Hello Nancy,
I finally found the Mc website. I think you did a splendid job of everything. Maybe some day their will be a McCrary who is famous, instead of just notorious, to add to the family line. It's beautifully done. Thanks for all the hard work. Tommy, G-son of Ernest, GG-son of Lucius.

Hi, I'm a McCreary but knowing how sloppy some of our ancestors were at spelling I thought I'd check you out for possible connections. Alas, I didn't see any but you look like a nice bunch of folks. You can come see us at www.thetaylorfamily.com, where I have my various lineages posted but as yet have not published pix of any McCreary ancestors. Have fun sorting out your kin!

I've actually been able to spend some time to read and wonder at all this. Nancy and everyone who has helped with this deserves a standing ovation. Our parents before us, and those before them deserve the same. I have a love for the history of WWII. I want to encourage all McCrarys who fought or have stories about that era to put them on this web page. We have some scoundrels in our family, but we have many more heros. As you can tell by my email address, I play the guitar. I know Uncle John Elby and Jesse, s/o Calvin also plays. If there are any other guitar pickin' McCrarys out there, send me an email. I smell a McCrary reunion and guitar playing on the wind! Maybe not this year, but when? The Lord bless each one of you. Judy (sister of Nancy....a much nicer, sweeter, prettier and smarter sister! LOL....)

I am only on page one and already shed a tear because Clyde's youthful military picture matches my nephew's expression in one similar. I know little about my grandfather Thaddeus Franklin McCrary or my father James Walter, but I will send the webmaster pictures, history, and anecdotes that I do have about him and his 3 sons and daughter and the ones that live on.
