Asa McCollum was a physician, druggist and grocery store keeper. He married Hadassah Kingsbury in Leicester, Worcester Co, MA 20 Jul 1828.
They located in Richland County around 1850 and lived there until their deaths in 1891 (Asa) and 1897 (Hadassah).
They had seven children all of whom were born in Massachusetts.
Several of Asa's siblings located in other Wisconsin counties, notably Columbia.

Thanks to Nita whom I talked with on the phone today and who gave me so much help! I am a retired U.S. History teacher. My great-great grandfather was born in Prussia in 1835 and came to the U.S. sometime in the late 1840s or early 1850s. He married Mary Geiger in Milwaukee in 1860.
Their son Cristian was born in 1861 and died in Waukesha in 1944 (Prairie Home Cemetery), Herman (1873-1926) and
William (1876-?), both younger brothers were born in Missouri and are buried in the Cape Girardeau area. I have my great-great grandfather's discharge papers from the Civil War. At 29 he enlisted for 1 year to serve in the Wisconsin 45th Regiment of Infantry Volunteers. He survived the war and was discharged (mustered out) in Nashville, Tenn. in July of 1865. His Company G of his regiment had the duty of guarding Confederate prisoners of war. He returned to Richland County to continue dairy farming there. I have a picture of him and his wife Mary seated along with 2 of his sons and my grandfather who is 12 years old in the picture. The picture was taken around the 4th of July, 1900. My great-great grandfather passed away in 1902.
Thanks to Nita, she found his burial plot number (#237)in Willow Valley Cemetery but found no record of his wife Mary as being buried there. I am trying to gather information and get a photograph of Frederick's burial plot (tombstone-if he has one).

Greetings from Alaska- heard about you from Greg Sevelis. I'm trying to solve a mystery about my grandmother Pearl Austin Ousterhout Procknow Cockroft Hardenbrook (1886-1968). She married Frank Cockroft (1880-1975) around Hub City on Sept 22, 1902. She seems to have magically appeared on the planet at that point and her history is a mystery - I think she was adopted by George Austin, but can't find anything about him. The marriage license says her mother was "not known". She was born in either Lone Rock or Orion. My father Gaylord Cockroft (1920-1967)was one of Frank and Pearl's 5 children. In 1930 when Pearl and Frank separated, Pearl and dad began spelling our last name Crockroft instead of Cockroft. Pearl later married Loyd Hardenbrook and Frank married Lula Gray, although it appears there is no divorce or marriage documentation extant.

Over 50yrs. ago I visited the area with my father who was visiting an uncle. He had a farm out of town and down the road was a one room school house. I don't know if he was a Sugden or a Meade. There were six or seven natural springs feeding the school house. I spent my childhood through ninth grade in Richland Center, growing up on East Court St., and spent many wonderful days exploring the hills about town. My father managed the Marachowski's store, and later had his own store there before we moved to Portage in 1953. I spent my summer days at the R.C. Country Club which was private in those days. What a wonderful place to spend your childhood.

Bobb nee Cudney who lived near my grandparents. I am also
related to Peter Bobb who lived in the same area. The
Kisting's---John and Josephine lived on the family farm on
