CLARK GARDNER
Comments:
There's a marriage bond for John GARDNER and Nancy CLARK dated 5/11/1816.

I have another court document from 1825 regarding the John CLARK estate and with John and Nancy GARDNER named.

John CLARK appears in the 1790 census and a Capt. John CLARK is mentioned in the Randolph County Reminiscences in December Court 1790.

Does anyone have any information about the John CLARK family? I'm specifically looking for the birthdate of Nancy CLARK.

Mine is a tough one.I have gotten various answers from different sources and frankly am on the verge of giving up.
My great great grandfather was born repoortly in Randolph County on March 12 1844.His name was William.M.Kirk.So far I have been told his mother was Sarah Moffit,Sally Moffit and even Matilda Fletcher. One reply shows a marriage between Matilda and john in dec 4 1843 with a 1850 census record showing John married to Sarah. The lister told me Matilda was the 2nd wife of John????On Williams death his mother is also listed as Sarah,so I really have no idea where or how Matilda actually comes up.Now it could be possible that,Matilda died and John remarried but,I can not find any record of marriage between john and sarah.Does anyone have a way to find the actual birth mother of William? And additionally does anyone know how to come up with the names of those in the household from the 1840 census?Thank You very so much.Any help will be greatly appreciated.Feel free to e-mail me at jgmafb@yahoo.com
And if you happen to be in the hunt of this Kirk line,I can bring you to date on the current status of those remaining.I just can't get past the above problem

Hello, my name is Milton Hancock. I was looking at the 1900 census for the Richland township and noticed that under John M. Yow, he had a daughter named Mody L., at least that is what it looks like. It states she was born in July of 1888. My great-grandfather, Moda Yow, was also born in July of 1888. He is in the 1910 census as being head of the family with wife and one daughter, my grandmother.
But I can't find him in the 1900 census. Also Moda Yow's middle name is Lee, same middle initial. Do you think there could have been a mistake in the census and that could actually be Moda L. Yow?
Thank you for your time and your response.

Comments:
My great-grandfather, John Collier, was appointed a Liutenant in the Court of The Militia in Randolph County in September of 1801. From where can I get any information on this "Court of the Militia"?

John Collier married Sarah Ann Wood, oldest daughter of William Wood of Rev. War fame, in Warren County, NC, in 1781. His last name is spelled "Caller" in that account. Their twin sons, Merrel and Meredith, were born in Randolph County on May 10, 1782. When he resided in Randolph County, he died on one of his excursions as a member of the Court of the Militia in 1831.

His father-in-law, William Wood, died in 1804 and when his sons-in-law contested his estate, word was sent out to finde John Collier (now finally spelled correctly) but it was learned he had died on a trip to Georgia, Alabama or Florida. John's wife, Sarah Wood got quite an inheritance for her father's vast estate ... exactly thirty five cents (three shillings and sixpence).

John's brother-in-law, Ransom Harris, was the executor of his estate in 1832 and 1833. John's sister, Elizabeth, never married and she died in 1832 in Moore County (south of Randolph County). All her brothers and sisters were born in Scotland but she alone was born in Sussex County, VA. John's sister, Mollie, married AAron Felts of Rev. War fame and they settled in Wilkes Co., NC. John's son, Meredith (one of the twins), was married on Christmas Day in 1807 in Wilkes Co, NC at his uncle's and aunt's home. On the license, Meredith's name is spelled Mereday and his last name is Collier.

Please answer my question about the Court of the Militia. I have written two books on this Collier line. John's father was an English Episcopalian and his mother, Rebecca, was an English Jew.

Dwight Collier sends.

I am searching for Alexander Ancestors that lived in Randolph County in the late 1700's. They are:

George Alexander (b. 1715 in Ireland?, d. Randolph Co.1788-1790)
wife Jane McCord (b. ~1715 Randolph Co.,NC, d. ~1780 Randolph Co.,NC)

Samuel Alexander (b. 1756 in PA, d. 1832 in IN)
wife, Sarah Dennis (b. 1759 in PA d. 1830 in IN
they were supposedly married on Feb 1, 1781 in Randolph County

Samuel'son, Thomas Alexander (b. 1795 in Randoph Co, NC, d. in 1838 in Ill)

George and Samuel show up as signees (along with Wm. Alexander) on a 1788 Randolph County petition (transcript on this website). Samuel shows up on the 1790 Census transcripts with two males under 16 and 4 females in his household, but George does not, probably because he is deceased. There are other Alexanders on the 1790 Census; James, William Sr., William, and Stephen.

I would like to know if anyone has a possible burial records/locations for George Alexander and his wife, Jane McCord, marriage records for Samuel Alexander and Sarah Dennis, and or a birth records for Thomas Alexander. I would also like to know if anyone can link the other Alexanders (William Sr., Stephen, and James) to the Alexander that I am researching (possibly Samuel's brothers?).

My ggg-grandfather was William J. Spinks, born 1792 in Randolph County, NC, lived for awhile in various parts of GA from about 1815 to 1845 and died in 1864 in Lamertine, Columbia Co., AR. He was the grandson of Enoch Spinks, Sr., 1715-1772, of Guilford Co.(later Randolph) but each of Enoch Sr's five son's seem to have had son's named William, and I am unable to determine the father of our William J. Does anyone have any information on this? Also, William J. Spinks married Winifred "Winnie" UNKNOWN, sometime around 1812-1814, either in GA or NC. Searching for information on this also. I don't think that the William Spinks that married Bede Bohannon in Clarke Co., GA, in 1815 is my William J., but that is the only marriage record I've found for any William Spinks. Halp me plez!

BINGHAM and BAILEY/SKEEN
Comments:
Two sons of Thomas BINGHAM, d 1816 Randolph Co, NC (will)who were William b ca 1775 VA and Elijah b ca 1780 VA married sisters, daughters of William BAILEY. The will of William BAILEY (filed in GA) lists his two daughters named Elizabeth BINGHAM, and Mary BINGHAM (oldest is Elizabeth). William BINGHAM (d MS) named one of his daughters "Elizabeth" who m Caswell Cobb THOMPSON, most probably in Fayette Co, AL. Elijah BINGHAM (d GA) named one of his daughters, "Mary".

Following naming patterns, also adding that William was the oldest of the two BINGHAM sons, and Elizaabeth the oldest of the two BAILEY daughters......we believe that William BINGHAM married Elizabeth BAILEY. No marriage cert is available on either marriage or has been found, although they could have married in VA. I am seeking any records on either of the two BINGHAM sons, William and Elijah (land, court records, etc) that would mention the names of their wives. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Elijah BINGHAM married secondly to Benetta SKEEN, and according to letters, they married in NC before moving to GA after the death of his first wife. William BINGHAM also married again, his second wife's name is unknown, his first wife having also supposedly died in NC. It is not known where William BINGHAM married his second wife and her name is unknown.

Would anyone have any knowledge of the location of the graves and/or information on the deaths of these two BINGHAM wives? (Elizabeth BAILEY/BINGHAM, and Mary BAILEY/BINGHAM)

The brother of William and Elijah BINGHAM, Michael BINGHAM, resided in the Farmer Community. Would also like to locate any information as to the location of his burial site and information on his descendants. (I have the book, "Farmer, Yesterday and Today".)

Another son of Thomas BINGHAM (D 1816)was Chrisopher "Kit" BINGHAM, who died ca 1861 Randolph County, NC (b ca 1665 VA). He is also on the census for Randolph Co, NC and died there. Am also seeking location of his burial site and information on his descendants.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Am willing to share information on any of the BINGHAM and BAILEY families that I have.

William BAILEY, and Thomas BINGHAM had adjoining land in Randolph County according to the land records books.

Thank you. Judith Parker,of AL, e-mail address: <geniesleuth@aol.com>

I would like to exchange information with anyone having knowledge of the Pierce/Pearce families of western Randolph County (primarily Tabernacle and Concord townships). My 3rd great grandfather was Tilman Pierce (Abt. 1791-1877) through his son Willis Pierce (Abt 1818-1870's), and his daughter Apbsilla Pierce (1861-1905) who married Marcus Lafayette Wood (1859-1937). Who were Tilman Pierce's parents? Are Tilman Pierce and Ansel Pierce related (they lived near one another)? How does Brinkley Pierce fit into this family? I am also descended from the Nance family and many Pierce's married Nance's (both Ansel's and Tilman's children). Many questions need to be answered.

Looking for the parents of Hannah Hoover who married Christian Shearer, II (1765?)in Randolph. It is said that Andrew Hoover and Margaret Pfautz were her parents. But I want solid proof and a paper trail. If my guesses are correct, I believe she died in Randolph Co., and is buried there. There were Quaker connections, so that possibly is a factor. She was born c. 1745 and died about 1785 (these dates may not be accurate at all), but after she died Christian Shearer married Sally Waters (Walter, Waltress) and moved to Wayne Co., KY. When Hannah died she had six children, Mary, Daniel, Jacob and three others. Daniel and Jacob went to KY with their father. I believe she is buried in Randolph Co., NC. Are there early records and names of people buried about that time? It is said her father had a grist mill on the Uwharrie River in NC. Thanks for any help you can give me. Chris

My 3rd great grandfather, William J. Spinks was born in Randolph Co., NC about 1792. By 1820 he was in Georgia along with several other Spinks' of Randolph. William J.'s grandfather was Enoch Spinks (Sr.,) 1715-1772, but I do not know who William J.'s father is. I know that Enoch (Sr.) and wife Amey, had at least four sons, Enoch (Jr.) who had a son named William b. abt 1795, Garrett, John and Lewis.

Wm. J. married a woman known only as Winifred or "Winnie" about 1816-1818, possibly in GA or NC, but may have also come from Randolph County, NC. There were at least five William Spinks' in GA in the early 1800's. William J. Spinks died in 1864 in Lamertine, Columbia County, AR, and wife Winnie was living in Hunt,TX in 1880 with a widowed 45 year old daughter, per the 1880 US Census, which shows Winnie's birthplace as NC. Winnie was born about 1803 and had 15 children.

Anyone having any information about this family is asked to contact me. I am happy to recripocate with any information I have, as well.

Kinley
Comments:
Among my ancestors I can count Enos Blair and wife Hannah Millikan, William White and wife Susannah Davis Thornbury, all of whom lived in Hillsboro Twp, Randolph County.
William and Susannah had a son, John White, born about 1760, who married in North Carolina about 1781 and whose children were born in Randolph County. His wife, Mary, was born about 1762 in North Carolina. according to the 1850 census where she is living with her daughter's family (Abner and Abigail (White) Blair) in Hendricks county, IN. John and wife Mary are buried in Hendricks county, IN.
The identity of Mary has not been determined. It is assumed that they were married at a meetinghouse whose records did not survive.
The name "Kinley" survives as a given name in subsequent generations and does NOT come from the Blair, Millikan, White, Thornbury lineages. I strongly suspect that this was Mary's maiden name.
Also present in Hillsboro Twp, Randolph County in 1800 was a John Kinley, age greater than 45. This is believed to be the father of Edward Kinley who married Margaret Waymire. It is at this point that confusion occurs. There is a SECOND man, John Kindley, of about the same age, in Rowan county in 1800, and he appears to be the John Kindley who is described as a German immigrant born about 1742. Unfortunately, it appears that more recent generations have totally confused the two men.
At least one researcher would make John, father of Edward, a Scotsman, born about 1744.
Because the Hillsboro twp was heavily populated with the English/Irish/Scots community of Quakers, Presbyterians, and Anglicans, I would suppose the Scotsman to be the most likely parent for Mary. However, Margaret Waymire, wife of Edward Kinley, is from a German family, and the Waymire family also had members in Hillsboro Twp., so...
Help! Does anyone have a will, burial place, family record, marriage record, or even a faint hint that might help untangle this and allow me to either confirm or disprove my suppositions of Mary's ancestry?
I am in possession of a daguerrotype of Mary and would be happy to email a scan to interested parties.
