I have enjoyed this website so much. I am a 45 year old school teacher who lives in Sarecta, North Carolina. I looked on the web link genealogy of Dr. William Houston but could not find any connection to any of my ancestors: James Robert Houston and his wife Annie Boney Houston. They are buried in a cemetery behind my house on North Williams Road. I live on family land that has been in our family for generations. This land is about 1/2 mile from the bluff that Dr. William Houston lived on. I can't help but think that I am related in some way. I have land maps and deeds that have the name Sam Houston on them also. Please help, if you can. Thanks so much!!

trying to track family history which began on the Isle of wight county, Va prior to 1650 with garrett williams and migrated to Duplin County prior to 1749 with David Williams settling on Six Run creek before moving to Bullock co., Georgia after the revolutionary war (Davids son Fredrick fought under Gen Clark & was given land)...they later moved to Jackson Co., Florida (marianna florida area)where Andrew had 23 kids & became largest family in Florida from 1800 on with presently over 70,000 descendants.

You folks in Duplin have and are doing an extraordinary job with your history/geneology!
I know that my Great Great Grandmother Whitledge (spelled on the 1850 census as Whittleage) was living in Duplin Co. in 1850 with her three daughters: Rachel (Rainer--married Marshall Rainer), Sarah and Zilpha. My Great Grandfather Solomon N. (Nixon) Cole was living there in 1850 with his 1/2 year old son Amos Cole. I believe that Solomon's first wife, Molsey Brock Cole, died maybe even at childbirth, as they were married in 1849 and she was not listed on the 1850 census with them in Duplin Co. Solomon Cole and Sarah Whitledge were married in 1852 there in Duplin Co., but are recorded in the 1860 census as living in Moore Co. Solomon was mustered into the Civil War at Carthage, Moore Co. in 1861 and died August 13, 1864 at Petersburg General Hospital, Petersburg, Va. I would love to find the graves of Molsey Brock Cole and my Great Great Grandfather William Whitledge (not sure of how it was spelled then, as it is misspelled on the 1850 census). Both must have died in Duplin Co. After Solomon died the families of Whitledge/Cole moved to Orange Co., NC and all show up there in the 1880 Census. Today I live in the house that Sarah Whitlege Cole bought as a CW widow with six children in 1878. My 87 year old Mother, Mildred Cole Cooke, lives here too.

I enjoy your website. Thanks for posting the transcripts of Arthur "Matthis'" pension application and his pension certificate. He and his uncle(?) Jacob Mathews were two of the progenitors of the Mat(t)hews or Mat(t)hews family in Duplin County. (Their names were spelled four different ways in the first five federal censuses.) I also have and would like to post on your website if you can provide a place to put it all, photocopies of the following documents:
1. Copies of all the paperwork related to the 1784 land grant of 250 acres in Duplin County awarded to Arthur Mathews based upon the 1779 "entry" of William Mathews, and the subsequent 1782 survey for Arthur Mathews, heir-at- law of William Mathews deceased.
2. A copy of the 1785 military warrant for 640 acres of the states western lands set aside for North Carolina soldiers of the Revolution issued to the heirs of Wm. Mathews, deceased, shown endorsed (sold)three days later by Joseph Matthews.
3. The records of the 1815-1818 estate administration of Joseph Mathews of Duplin County, N.C. showing that Arthur Mathews attended the estate sale and made a purchase.
