I have just purchased a quilt top made in Centre, Circa ealy 1900's and I was curious to find out more about the place it came from. Unfortunately I do not know who made the quilt, it is a lovely piece, the design is 'Around the World'. Your website is very informative.
Best wishes,

I am disappointed in your website. I have been doing family history research for years and never have I been on a site that tells what information they have but won't share it with other researchers on line. I will probably never have a chance travel to Centre County. It is a shame that you have done all of your hard work and fellow researchers can't access it. By the way I am a Bush family descendent.

The site is set up very well for tracking white settlement and genealogy in the area, but I didn't encounter any information about the Indians (Native Americans, to be politically correct) inhabiting the region prior to white settlement, or the Indians that migrated TO Penns Valley area from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York,-- that moved to get away from the British & Colonial military during the French & Indian War. I was looking for that history of the area, as one of my ancestors was a man half-Indian half-white, who migrated from N.H. to Penns Valley and who eventually settled at Bald Eagle.

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Rick Demas, I am 22 years old and live in The Netherlands. At the Normandy American Military Cemetery (France) I adopted the grave of Pfc. George H. Emel (in the Netherlands I adopted 4 graves and at the Military Cemetery in Henri-Chapelle (Belgium) I adopted 7 more graves of American soldiers). They were fighting for our freedom during the Second World War and that is something we must never forget. I also built a website for my adopted soldiers, the address is www.heroesforever.nl

I hereby would like to ask you if you could help me to gather more information about Pfc. George H. Emel. Of course I now have a lot of questions about Pfc. George H. Emel and the role he exactly fulfilled in WWII. I am pointing on information like; how did he look like (in uniform). How he spent his youth, at what base he had his education, what kind of hobbies did he have, the way he died, how he was as soldier and as person self. If his standard weapon was a machine gun or a rifle, was he married or did he have a girlfriend or children, how were the weather conditions during the fightings. Did Pfc. George H. Emel went through man against man fights, how was he during his training and leave, and other things I forgot to ask you about Pfc. George H. Emel and the Company he served in and the combat Pfc. Emel was involved in. As you can see, there are a lot of things I would like to know about George H. Emel that it is too much to write down.

I would like to ask you if it is possible to help me finding an answer to the above mentioned questions. Hopefully it is also possible to receive some pictures of him and copies of some documents and maybe to correspond with some of his relatives.

I really hope to receive an answer to my letter. I was searching on internet and hoped to find some specific information about George H. Emel, but unfortunately without any results. You are my last hope for help. It would be nice to know more about the person whose grave I take care of.

I enclosed more information about the soldier.

I am thanking you in advance and look forward to your reply.

Whit kind regards,
Rick
Demas

I have relatives who originated in Germany, through NYC, to Centre County, PA. GGGF Leonard Melcher, orphaned by death of his parents and eight siblings on board ship from Germany to America, married Rachel Stine, later married a woman by the name of Cronister (I have no first name). I have GGF Melcher's family Bible, with notations of dates and other people including an "ME precher" from whom he bought the Bible.
I'm almost positive he had a half brother named John (son of father John who died at sea), who married Cristina McMonigal.
The son of GGGF Leonard, GGF Leonard married Elizabeth Henderson in Centre County.
I have evidence from McMonigal family information that Melchers, McMonigals, and Hendersons lived in Centre County contemporaneously.
Would like to learn more, and hope to visit Centre County in 2008 to do some research.
