Comments:
I did my dad's DNA he was 94. He is 1 genetic distance from Mr. Scott Elmer Lark. When I did my Dad's DNA there were all MarFarlane, MarFarland names and no Casey's they think my ancestor was a McFarland born to a single mother and she was a Casey and MarFarlane was the father. I went to Northern Ireland this year in a open museum in Ulster and the historian there said there were MacFarland and Caseys that lived there. McFarland came from Upper Highlands in Scotland and had to leave by orders of the King. After Ireland they went to the Americas. I have been trying to settle this puzzle for years now and I think I have almost solve it. Lets put our heads together on this MacFarlane Mystery!

"My father told me stories, since I was a young girl, of one of our LARK ancestors in some type of trouble with the law. "Perhaps this Lark ancestor was a horse rustler," my father would say, "fleeing from Maryland to Virginia ". As the story goes, my father told of this LARK ancestor changing his surname from FINNEY to LARK to escape the law. Years ago, when I visited Russell County, I met Jerry LARK, my 2nd cousin 1 time removed, who had heard a similar story but thought the LARK surname was changed from MCFARLANE to LARK. As it has been difficult to determine the parents of James M LARK, these stories have never left my mind."

Cindy,, we corresponded a few years ago about the Lark family. My mother was a Lark. The above story was of particular interest to me because it is identical to what was told to me by my Uncle, Virgil Lark, many years ago. I would like to say this to see if any of your readers have ever been told anything similar. Years ago Virgil and two his brother we to Nicklesville, Va, in Scott Co I believe, to try to follow up on some genealogical work on the Lark family. On more than one occassion when asking questions about Mary Enix(Enochs) who married Alexander Lark, Jr they were told not to ask any more questions about this matter, to leave town and not come back or to just leave it be. Some people made it plain that questions were not welcome. I believe it has to do with the fact that Mary.s father was a John Nickles probably of the family that founded Nicklesville. She was born in Lilles, France and was brought her when her mother became too ill to care for her.

Comments:
Although my main interest is the male Scott line, I think I noticed Lucretia James on your ancestry site. I am sure that Lucretia was my 7th grsandmother, probably born about 1722 married to William Scott(1720-1794). They spent most of their adult lives in Bedford, Va. Their grandsonWilliam came to Pike county, Ky. about 1800. I have two challenging mysteries--Where did William meet and marry and where did they live proior to going to Bedford about 1740-1750. A second prioity is what happened to the young William(1786-1864) who went to Ky. and his siblings when both his father, Axton and his mother died in washington county about 1790. I would be most happy to exchenge information with you. I am the proponent of the Scott family tree on ancestry Thanks

I was very surprised that the Larks are intertwined with the grizzle's, through Aily Grizzell. I was a Grizzle before marriage. My grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Grizzle and Grandmother was Winnie Combs. Great-Grandfather was William Dormas Grizzle, Great-Great-Grandfather was William Hensley Grizzle, so on and so on. I could use all the info you have on the larks, grizzles and combs. Thank you, Mae Nash.

Genealogy. My grandfather William Allen Lark gave my
mother Beatrice a large picture of himself and Uncle John B. Lark and told my mother to take good care of it, because
he thinks that is the only picture of John B. I'm waiting
on my sister to take a picture of the big picture. I will
send you a copy. Betty

Hey again, Cindy, we corresponded some years ago. "Met" on the internet another cousin of yours, descended from Jacob & Joanna Thompson's son Zaddock (Dock) Thompson, who lives in Wayne Co. WV, where Dock died at about age 100 too. My dad's getting near 76 now, still going strong (he was USAF pilot, not Marines like yours; we've all in fact been military in my line, including my wife). Nice website, keep it up! I'm descended in direct line from Jacob Thompson's next older brother, Rolen Thompson--notice you've got him on your index.

My family decended from Scots-Irish settlers in Pa., VA, NC, and what is now West Virginia. The 1800's Finneys and Thompsons migrated to WV from Surry Couty, NC, Carroll County, VA and Rockbridge County, Virgiia. I am now looking at Greenville Thompson who married Margaret Aust in Surry County, NC in 1853, and then moved to Carroll County, VA.
My real "wall" now is going beyound William Finney, born in Rockbridge County, VA in 1822.
Ray Finney
