I have been a researcher on the Belcher site for several, yrs., but had a change of email, and haven't seen it in awhile. My grt.,grt. grandmother was Rhoda Belcher b. in Virginia in 1781, mar. William Franklin Piephoff, b. 1782 in Amsterdam, Holland. They resided in Spartanburg, SC appearing first on the 1810 census, but do not appear again until 1830. Their daughter Ellender, b. 1819 was my grt. grandmother who through family tradition was said to have been born in Ireland. I personally think the census taker misunderstood them and they may have said "Holland". Did Wm. and Rhoda go to Holland for Ellender's birth? William, a soldier in the War of 1812 is buried at Boiling Springs Baptist Church, but no record of Rhoda's burial place. Any information would be greatly appreciated. A cousin sent your website to me. I find some information that I believe to be incorrect on the family that you have that includes Phoebe Belcher, who married Joseph Swinney. Phoebe was a Cabaniss, who married Francis Belcher, then married Joseph Sweeney after the death of Francis. Her inventory of property is found in Franklin Co., VA, in which she names the children of Francis Belcher and her own body.

My maternal gg grandfather, Seaborn Jones Shy, married first, Amelia Heard,who I presume died in childbirth, then he married Harriet Belcher and then Caroline. I am a descendent through Caroline. I have been to the little Shy Cemetery between Farrah and Pennington which is where Harriet is buried but I have never found out where Caroline is burried. I have (somewhere) an Athens Banner clipping where it states that Caroline was in Athens at the home of her son, James, when she died. She was to be buried in Jasper County. I have never been able to locate the burial place of her or Obediah and Mary.
