Trying to trace Mary Tilbury who was 1st wife of Titus Rideal(1779-1850). This info in family docs plus in Pallots. Marriage 1804 Westminster, Middlesex.
After 9 children she dies in childbirth as is buried on 27 July 1814 in St Saviour's, Southwark, Surrey, age given as 32yrs. Her birth then is approx 1782.
IGI gives a bap at that time for a John & Sarah Tilbury at St Mary-St Marylebone Rd, London. Who are this couple?
Titus Rideal, Mary's spouse corresponds with Thomas & James Tilbury (1802-61), sons of George Tilbury (1775-) who is brother of Edward Tilbury(1773-1859 Warehouse). Would love to connect up. In 1901 have James's daughter Caroline Tilbury is living with cousin Mary L Hull (who's mother was a Rideal) so I know they are connected somehow. Any pointers would be much appreciated. Mary & Titus Rideal are my 3rd G Grandparents.
Thanks Hilary Eade

I am trying to find some details about my great grandmother Eliza Tilbury. She trained as a nurse in London at St Mary Abbotts Infirmary Kensington A nursing certificate from them names her as Eliza ANN Tilbury. She married John Sowerby Martindale in 1887Her marriage certficate names her as Eliza RHODIA Tilbury age 24, which supposes a birth year of around 1863.Apart from her nursing certificate this is the first time that I can definitely say that this is her, in official records. In the 1891 and 1901 censuses she gives her place of birth as variously Shoreditch or Forest Gate. She died in April 1911, the certificate gives an age of 44,and the name Eliza RHODA Martindale, which gives year of birth about 1867. There is a family story of a german auntie[her sister] perhaps with one of her christian names Rebecca, who married a german.Where can I start to pin this elusive nurse/midwife down? the covering up with fibs etc seems quite deliberate to me .She names her father as Josiah Tilbury [carter] on her mariage lines, but he doesnt seem to exist, not in census IGI or BMD .The family tale is that she refused to discus her family with her husband, and he put a notice in a London newspaper [Not the London Times I've looked] to let her family know when she died Anyone got any ideas out there amongst the Tilburys?
thanks

What a wonderful site you have here!! :)

I would like to be able to trace Mary Tilbury's family / ancestors / living descendants if anyone can help. She married Daniel Hollmans Mackney (he was born 1803, died 1859) I have no leads at all from there.

My father, George William Tilbury, was born in Hordean, Hampshire in 1918, attended Grammar School just north of Portsmouth (Purbrook?), joined the RAF in WW2, got his wings in the US (#3 BFTS?) attained the rank of Flight Lieutenant (I think) before de-mob. Joined the Hants & I-o-W Constabularly after the war and retired in 1968 as Chief Inspector. After retirement, my parents moved to Colchester, Essex, where he took a position at the University of Essex.
We lived in many places in Hampshire, because of his police postings, including Winchester (where my sister and I were born), Liphook, Whitehill, Gosport, Lymington, Andover, etc. My father died in 1982.
I left for Canada in 1966.
My paternal grandfather was William James Tilbury who was I believe, born in the Portsmouth area. He died in the early '60s.
My aunt (father's sister) Katherine (nee Tilbury) still lives in Hampshire (Widley, N of Portsmouth) and when time permits, I will try to get her to nail down some dates and see if she can go back a generation or two.
