Congratulations to the more than 1,000 new 2nd Lieutenants that graduated yesterday from the Air Force Academy. This also reminds me that it has been over 1/2 century since I became a 2nd Lieutenant, at the Air Force Officer Candidate School at Lackland AFB, Texas in 1960. I wish the new graduates just as rewarding a career as I had.

I made the planned March & April trip to Israel with a buddy from Dover, DE. Stayed 3 weeks and used public transportation, except for @ a week renting a Hertz car. Spent all the nights in Hostels except for one night in Nazareth. As planned, I travelled with the C-17 Squadron at Jackson, MS, thru Andrews AFB to load a full emergency medical team, making a twice weekly trip to pick up casualties downrange, and returning them to the CONUS. Made me proud to be an airman again. I selected a flight from Tel Aviv back to Rhine Main/Franfurt that had a daytime stopover so we could train into Athens to see Mar's Hill, etc. Good trip! Jack

Don, its a great web site. Brings back a lot of memories.
I'm still not on the internet--just don't trust computers
yet--fortunately, my son does!!
After OCS it was navigator training thence KC-135's at
Ellsworth AFB, Amarillo AFB, March AFB followed by a 4 yr
stint in Taiwan/Vietnam flying the C-130E Hercules. This
was followed by ACSC, Class of 74, and 4 years at HQ PACAF
in the Airlift Directorate. My assignment out of PACAF was
a consolation prize--Chief Navigator of the 16th Tactical
Airlift Training Squadron, Little Rock AFB, AR. I retired
from the Air Force in 1988 and went to work the next day at
the C-130 Airlift Training Center (Flight Simulator) as an
Instructor Navigator Supervisor. After 10 years as a civilian instructor, I retired to 10 acres and a John Deere
tractor in Antioch, Arkansas.
The Air Force has been good to me. For my entire career
(practically my whole adult life), I was given the opportnity to work and associate with the finest group of
individuals this country has to offer. Uncle Sam educated
me (B.S. Troy State 1974; M.A. Central Michigan University
1978) and provided me with opportunity, challenge, and
excitement, along with promotions from time to time. Did I
love it? Yes. Would I put on the uniform again? In a
heartbeat!!

I wish and pray we all will have an enjoyable season with our families and loved ones this Christmas of the year 2000.
Thanks again to DON for initiating this site, and for others who have participated in its success. With a little more effort we should be able to locate others and get them to sign-in on this site.
Our prayers are for the families of our fallen comrades. May God's Blessings be upon them all. Assuming it would be helpful to them perhaps they would like to drop a note here to inform us of their husbands and/or childrens accounts of their premature deaths. God Bless each of you!
I appreciate hearing from you guys directly; and, through our visits to this Guestbook we'll be able to keep up with one another.
My wife, Dee and I spent two weeks in Europe recently after 20 years caring for children in our medium-sized(Licensed for 102) Child Development Center. We flew out of Kelly AFB,TX. While at Kelly/Lackland we toured the old OCS area and recalled the 6 months spent there. Only one building preserved of the facility for posterity-- the others were all dug up and hauled off. Some familiar sites could still be observed around the drill field area. Wilford Hall Hospital---where our third child was born 5 weeks after starting OCS-- looked the same. Kelly's property is closing down ASAP, except the eastern part around the flight line and the Pax Terminal and other OPS buildings with the flight line and runways. They will be acquired by Lackland AFB. The C-5 Wing flies multiple missions monthly all over the world: So when thinking about "going space-A" go back to Lackland and revisit the old area- you might find more than I did- the billiting is good there.
Best of Regards to all OCS comrades,

HI! I retired in 1974. Never regretted a day I spent in service and have never regretted a day that I have retired. I taught in a Junior College for 15 years and retired. My wife, Elaine (a retired school teacher). Had a ceramic shop but sold that so I guess I retired from that also. And at age 62 started collecting my SS. And with four retirements I am busier than ever. Between church work and helping with The Cat Protection Society I stay much too busy. In addition since moving to Florida, Elaine is a born Floridian, we have lots of company so we don't do much traveling ourselves. We have annual passes to Universal Studios, Walt Disney World, Busch Gardens in Tampa, and Cypress Gardens so we can accompany our guests on their trips to the parks.
If we ever have a reunion how about a 3, 4, or 7 day cruise of the Carribean or someplace. You all take care.

Don,
Really enjoyed your efforts in organizing this website.
I retired in 1982, at Fairchild AFB, WA and currently
live in Spokane, WA... Retired as a Lt Col after 28
years in the Air Force.. This sure brings back great
memories, yet a lot of sadness to notice so many old
friends that have departed... Would really be great to get together for a reunion some day.. I know where a couple
of the others are located and will pass this info on to them...
"Great Job" and thanks again for all your efforts...
Jerry Olsen

You have located me! Its nice to see some of the old faces;but its sad to see who has passed on. I retired in 1975 as a regular Major. Went into the chemical business did well until I lost intrest and drive; I closed down in 1997 and just take it easy. I fish a lot; traveled the country fishing tournaments. There is a lot to tell, forty years is a long time. I'll sit down and compose a bio soon. Bye G

I was in 2nd Squadron as a 60A second classman and washed back to second class. I went down a flight of setps and wound up in the hospital for 5 days. Also had other medical problems that contributed to an academic deficiency. Retired in 72 as a Captain due to my own stuborness. God Bless you all as we went through hell together.

This is a good site, gentlemen. Hopefully, we'll have a site of our own before too long.
We just had our 40th reunion in S.A. and it was a blast.
I was in 6th squadron (I think) and went to 3rd when we turned first class. It's surprising how much I DON'T remember.
Regards, John (Dennis)

I started out in 60-A (7th Squadron), but washed back and graduated, completed 7 years before marriage and motherhood forced me out.
Class 60-B had a 40-year reunion last week (June 15) in San Antonio. It took several of our graduates two years to locate nearly everyone. I only wish I could have visited with my former 60-A classmates, as well.

Don Wilkinson finally tracked me down. It doesn't seem like 40 years. Married, divorced, one son, worked in real estate related fields since 1962. Went back to school and got a para legal certificate and my BS in Management.I do a lot of volunteer work in the Arts; semi retired, work as a temp and get to work with many different companies which keeps me on my toes. Also love to travel solo so I can meet people of different walks of life as I go. Also I can claim the distinction of having a son who followed in Mom's footsteps and enlisted in the Air Force after High School.

Thanks to Don Erickson we are priviledged to make contact with our comrades from Officer Candidate School. Just reviewing the WEB page from week to week and seeing the updated status of our newest contacts and their stories is a blessing to me. Though our situations may be so different we have pride in the awareness that each of us has truly accomplished so much, and that we have now entered an era of reflections on our careers since that bond of OCS some 40 years ago! Welcome to all visitors to this Guestbook, and thanks again to Don.

Thought I would pop in and see what you had here. My father was Paul Ahart (1st Squadron '60), and it has really brought back a lot of memories to think about my youth growing up in the Air Force and the places we got to see around the world. Thanks for your efforts at bringing the alumni together. Your legacies live on in us, the next generation.

Retired May 1, 1979 as Lt Col.(Carl Forinash was at Air Force Mil Pers Cntr at Randolph AFB with me for over four years before we both retired in 1979.) Retirement saved me
from going back to Pentagon. After OCS, I stayed at Lackland for three months going to Personnel Officer School,
then went to Donaldson AFB, SC. After 18 months, was asgd
to MAC HQ at Scott AFB for three yrs in Pers Data systems.
Then went to Lajes Fld, Azores for 3 yrs as CBPO Chief.
Then asgd to Pentagon for four+ years in Personnel Data Systems. Went to AC&SC Jul72-73, then to Kunsan AB,
Korea as Dir of Personnel. Then on to Randolph in varied
positions as Personnel Data Systems Officer (with Carl
Forinash ((60A)), Wally Cotton ((59D)), and others.)
I have very favorable memories of OCS (one never remembers
the bad, I have heard.) Would like to hear from any and all--did run into Al Hartman often while at AC&SC in 72-73, but have not heard anything of him since!! (he was O&T in
my 4th SQ at OCS.) Has anyone ever run into John Lawley,
who started out in our class, but washed back due to med
problems. He was a good old boy--hope he made the grade
2nd time around!!! Norm Haugen
