Hello My GG Grandfather Joshua Rufus Hall of Murphy, NC was a Union sympathizer while is 6 brothers who all lived nearby fought for the Confederacy...2 died and 3 were imprisioned at Fort Delaware. Joshua's claim with the Southern Claims Commission states he was imprisoned in Asheville, NC for being a sympathizer. Do you know if records exist of those who were imprisioned in Asheville?

What surnames are you researching? In NC McGlaun, Thompson, Murray
Comments:
The newspaper article regarding the Battles of Kinston, Fayetteville and Bentonville referred to an earlier article with another list of casualties. My gr-gr-grand father, John Thomas McGlaun of Co. D, 57th Ala. Regt., was listed on the casuality list in a Pike Co. Ala. newspaper. That was the first we knew of where he had died. Two soldiers on Pike County's list are in the article you have up but not my ancestor. I'm wondering if he was on an earlier list there.
The McGlauns left Bertie Co. NC about 1800 for Lincoln Co. GA The Thompsons and Murrays left Duplin Co. NC in 1768 and settled in Burke Co. GA

what a wonderful site. My great grandfathers fought in the civil war... and unfortunately, that is all I know of my heritage. My parents were born late in their parents lives and I was born late in my parents' lives (my mother was 40, my father 47 yrs old). I would very much like to research my family history for my children and hope to find the ancestor to tie us back to the civil war. It was very enjoyable and informative reading your site. Thank you!
