Where are you from? Reidsville, NC
What surnames are you researching? MADREN
Comments:
During WWII, there were five Madren brothers, originally from Liberty NC but moved to Reidsville, NC and were serving during the same period. Specifically, Mr. Marvin Madren III (deceased) served in the European arena and won Silver and Bronze Stars. Other brothers were Lester, Roy, Hubert, Wade and my father, Albert B. Madren (Navy, deceased). I am searching desperately for an article, written by a Rockingham Counter reporter, a lady possibly from Eden, that wrote and published an article with photos of the brothers. Very important to me and my family and would like access or to get a copy of this article. The Reidsville American Legion does not seem to have this information. I am a resident of Tokyo, Japan so it is very difficult for me to access. Any advice, guidance and or help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Leland Madren

Comments:
I am an AG teacher and my 4th graders are working on a project for Tar Heel Junior Historians Convention sponsored by the NC Museum of History. The children want to do an "interview" with women(they would play these women) who went to work during WWII. Because we want to keep our focus on North Carolina we are looking for information about factories or military bases that began employing women around this time. Any ideas or information you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Susan Carone
