I put a quierry on that site and got a reply from a cousin i didn't know but she filled me in on the info i was looking for. Now I can go back to England and where they came over here and started living. Now I'll fill her in on my side, and get to go to a new family reunion. Nobody knew any thing about this side of the family, and now I have "blue blood". This is so great, because I've been working on this since Roots was on T.V. Thankyou Donna

I put in a query back in January, 2000, a volunteer of the Random Acts of Kindness, Linda Madden Thompson, responded. I had been trying to get information on Shepherd Huckleby, Jr. for years. Everywhere that I tried to obtain records, I was told that there were none for Shep Jr. I knew that he died in January, 1968 in Colliersville, Tn. Well Ms. Thompson, not only visited the Church where he was buried(which really turned up nothing-it seems that the Church was more interested in current community affairs then genealogy--which is truly so sad), she sent me a 1968 newspaper death notice for Shep., a newspaper death notice for his daughter Annie M. Bailey Huckleby, a picture of the hospital John Gaston that he died in, copies of the 1968, 1973, 1981 and 1987 city directories for Memphis. The icing on the cake was when I searched the white pages online--I was a month too late for his son Bennie--he died May 2000. I was able to get his death notice from the Toledo Blade--which listed his children. From that I tracked his grandson Bennie Jr. in Albuquerque, New Mexico and his 2 grand-daughters & grandson in Toledo, Ohio. The best part of the long wait is that the grandchildren wanted to research their grandfather Shep Jr. and I have been researching for about 8 years now. So we are pooling our info and photos. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS IS TRULY GOD SENT!!! KATHERINE EVANS

I joined Rootsweb in May of 1998 as as member. I began submitting my surnames in it's RSL section. I joined too many mailing lists...I left queries on as many surname query boards as I could find. My paternal 2gr-grandparents were Thomas Bradley ROTH & Esther GRIEST. I soon heard from someone (Faith) who had GRIESTs in her files. We corresponded for many months trying to find that definitive connection...no luck. My paternal gr-grandmother was Virginia EUBANK of Kenton Co. KY. I had two of her sisters, her parents, grand and gr-grandparent's names and a birthdate for her father. In Nov. 1998, I discovered a EUBANK cousin who lead me back to her 2gr-grandparents and all of Virginia's 11 siblings! On Jan. 16, 1999, a SHEFFLER cousin found me. He had four generations I did not have ! On Jan. 24, 1999 I found a DURHAM cousin via the DURHAM-L mailing list with three generations that I did not have ! (My paternal grandmother was a DURHAM). Throughout all this activity, I was trying to find Thomas Bradley ROTH's parents and not having any luck...so I thought I'd try his wife, Esther GRIEST's line, thinking I might find a tidbit of info on Thomas. Someone had beaten me to claiming the ROTH Query Board, so I asked for and received the GRIEST Query Board on Feb. 12, 1999. On Feb. 14, 1999 Vicki posted a response on the GRIEST" Query Board that finally made the connection between Faith and I ! Within a week, the query board had "caught" 6 GREIST cousins with more to follow, as well as, two previous generations we did not have. Faith also had data on a GARRETSON shared-ancestor's line that took us back to HOLLAND ! When I renewed my membership (May 1999), this time as a Sponsor, I eventually got the rest of the GenConnect suite of GREIST boards AND the ROTH Suite of Boards and the GRIEST and FUREY Mailing Lists. Vicki's post also gave me Thomas' birthdate (that I already had) and LOCATION (which I did not have !): Berks Co. PA. I subscribed to the Berks Co. Mailing List. A FEW DAYS later, someone FOUND Thomas Bradley ROTH's registration at The First Reformed Church in Reading, Berks Co. PA....along with HIS SISTER, SOPHIA, SPONSORS FOR BOTH AND PARENTS: Paul & Catharine REITHER_ROTH...married Dec. 1805 !!! I'va made MANY contacts through my RSL listing, , the mailing lists & the query boards. I have met so MANY helpful, friendly people through Rootsweb. The Rootsweb staff has been VERY helpful and prompt in answering my queries while transfering my web site to Rootsweb's Freepages. Rootsweb had been very good to me and I've tripled my family tree since joining in 1998 ! Regards, Paul Alan Roth
