For over 15 years I had searched for my father's family. Finally I found a will in Barbour County, Alabama that listed my greatgrandfather and his siblings. But what now, how do I go about finding information on this family. Who was his wife, she was not listed. Was she dead or divorce, so many questions and Barbour County was 500 miles away. I had a brand new computer and started searching online and found Rootsweb. I transcribed the will and sent it to be placed online. Within a month I received this email message and the person asked if there was a way they could contact me (snail mail). I was so excited and watched the mail box everyday until finally I received this BIG package. I had no idea that this person was sending over 100 typed pages of information on my 4th greatgrandmother. I DID NOT EVEN KNOW HER NAME! But there it was! Court documents, marriage records, concrete proof that gave all her siblings, their children. There were so many lines that they were given alpha letters for their line of research, mine was K. You would think that was the end of it but no there was lots more to come. The will had MY email address and it and others began to send me information. The County Coordinator that I sent my information to said to me " I know a couple of women that have been doing research in Georgia for years" she gave me the names and phone numbers. I called right away and explained to the lady on the other end of the phone who I was and what I was looking for. She listened very quietly and then said, " I have a lot of information for you. Your ggreatgrandmother Susan K. Glover and my ggreatgrandmother were sisters. I have pictures of her and one of her brothers. We have become great friends and better than that we now coordinate Macon County, Georgia and Crawford County, Georgia. We try very hard to give back what has been so freely shared with us. It is wonderful to have a place that researchers can help each other find their families. I volunteer on 5 mail lists and look up information for others that would not even know the book existed and many times cannot travel to the location to research.
