After 2+ years of receiving the Rootsweb Review, I just had to write and tell you my story. What a wonderful thing they are doing over at USGen Web with their tombstone project. I sent a query about finding my 2x great-grandmother's gravemarker in Fremont Co., CO (cemetery unknown)and in less than 2-1/2 hours I had a picture. A HUGE thank-you to Mary Ann. I just can't believe the luck I had in finding such wonderful person to do the legwork for me. Beth Hancock Cross in Washington state.

For 20 years here in WA state, we've been trying to get past the brick wall of Thomas L. Walthall my husband's g/g/grandfather in VA/KY. Since the advent of the internet brings instant results - decided to see if anyone else named Walthall had the answer. So, went to the posts on Rootsweb. And, voila! there found David Walthall Vaughn who was looking for the same Thomas L. Walthall, his g/g/grandfather. We shared what we had and then found cousin John in Texas too. Great! Meanwhile, I decided to write a history of Walthall and also bios (including photos) of our close family members, including David and John. About then Aunt Pauline Walthall Anderson in MO decided to contact her Davis cousins on her mother's side for photos. She sent a farmhouse photo from 1900 of the Davis family incuding her mother Bessie Mae Davis Walthall (wife of P.W. Walthall) with baby Mary. I shared that photo (snail mail) with David because it came from Kentucky. He very excitedly e-mailed me to say the farmhouse had belonged to his g/father John Claude Walthall (Bessie's brother-in-law) from about 1905 on. So, we got the deed and found the house has been in the family since 1884 when it was built and is still standing today. My husband, Philip Dale Walthall and I had to see it, so when we went to visit Aunt Pauline in MO, we drove on over to KY, met David and his wife for the first time, visited the house, and met a new cousin, Roger Dale Walthall. Without Rootsweb, we would never have met our cousins, or known where the house was or made those wonderful connections. Thank you. Fran Walthall. P.S. We are still working on the brick wall of Thomas L. Walthall due to lost VA records.

I posted and read thousands of posts on the surnames on my list. someone on the msg boards had the idea of going through phonebooks in the last known town of your ancestors, which is what I did and found not only the decendents of the ancestors, but found my 2 oldest relatives still alive at 91 and 83, the sisters of my grandfather who died in 1993...I was so pleased and so are they, because it was always my grandfathers dream to reunite with them after losing touch during the 30's depression years.NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THESE GREAT-AUNTS HAVE THE PHOTOS OF MY ANCESTORS, AND SENT THEM TO ME,3 GENERATIONS WORTH, AND INFO TOO.

I found a cousin via WorldConnect who has the family Bible of our ancestors who married in 1830. She had the Bible and I had the pictures. What a fast electronic swap that was.

Discovered a "lost" 3rd-great-grandmother living with a son in Texas in the 1860 census that some kind volunteer transcribed and put up on the USGenWeb Project, one of the many pages/sources that RootsWeb hosts. Now that we know this ancestor lived until 1860 and where she was we have a new place to look for her final resting place and seek additional records. Good as finding gold.

I posted a querry with rootsweb. Someone emailed me with the address of the church in Cordell, Oklahoma, where I thought my great grandfather belonged. They sent me photo copies of his church records which included the date he died. I also sent an email to someone who posted a querry with rootsweb giving him the information he needed to find the rest of our ancestors as he had one of the names wrong. This site is very helpfull. yours Judith Jones

I have been researching my wife's father's family - the Kammraths of Chicago. I had found very little about this family on line. Just one or two postings by people who spelled the name Kamrath. In Roots Web I noticed a name that was familiar - Eleonore Kammrath - my father-in-law's sister. Then I found a message from the same person who posted that information on the "Kamrath" message board at familyhistory.com. I contacted her and got the following information: my F.I.L.'s grand-father's name Frederick, his wife's name Otilla, the names of all his uncles and one aunt, the aunt's entire lineage, and leads on other family members. That led me to information about the two uncles, including the names of their wives and children. Two months ago I could only trace this family back to 1885; and only through my father-in-laws lineage. Now I can trace it to 1853; and through the lineage of all of his aunts and uncles. Thanks to Root Web and all those who answer and post messages on these free sites. Paul Laird

I had been looking for my maternal grandmother and grandfather for about 5 years with no sucess. I checked on the Rootsweb and was lucky enough to find a 2nd cousin (once removed) who had the information I wanted. I can now trace my maternal relatives back to the early 1700's. I am still looking for my paternal side of the family and my husbands side of the family. Someday, I am sure, they will pop up on the Rootsweb and the rest of the puzzle will be solved
